AEW wrestlers announced for CMLL appearance

Two AEW wrestlers have been announced for a CMLL appearance next month, with another AEW vs. CMLL matchup also being teased.

Multiple AEW notes came out of Wednesday’s CMLL Informa talk show, including the official announcement that the new AEW Tag Team Champions Brodido (Brody King and Bandido) will appear in Arena Mexico for the traditional Friday night show on September 12:

Also on CMLL Informa, Persephone issued a challenge to the AEW TBS Champion and CMLL World Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone for a match in Arena Mexico.

Peresphone, who was part of the four-way for the TBS title at Forbidden Door in London last Sunday, cut a promo on Mone and challenged her to come face her in her house, Arena Mexico:

Mone was featured on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite in a segment where she teased a one-on-one match against Alex Windsor for the TBS Championship as her next AEW program.

Mercedes Mone appears on CMLL Informa, sends message to Stephanie Vaquer

Mercedes Mone popped up on CMLL Informa this week to send a message to her Forbidden Door opponent Stephanie Vaquer.

A title vs. title match between TBS Champion Mone and NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Vaquer is set to go down at Forbidden Door on June 30. Before that, Vaquer has a title defense against La Catalina for CMLL this Friday. It’s part of the card for CMLL/NJPW Fantastica Mania Mexico 2024.

In a promo that aired on CMLL’s Informa talk show, Mone appeared to tease that she’ll be in attendance at Arena Mexico to watch the title match. “I’ll be watching that match closer than you think,” she told Vaquer.

“Hola, Stephanie. I just wanted to wish you good luck in your New Japan Strong title match against La Catalina. Way to be a fighting champion. And, you know, I’ll be watching that match closer than you think. And whoever wins, well, I’ll see you at Forbidden Door. Because I am taking that title that was meant to be mine.”

Mone was supposed to be crowned the inaugural NJPW Strong Women’s Champion in May 2023, but those plans were derailed when she suffered an ankle injury against Willow Nightingale in the title tournament finals. After spending a year out of action, Mone returned to the ring last month and defeated Nightingale for the AEW TBS Championship.

Vaquer won the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship from Giulia this March.

Forbidden Door will be the second time Mone and Vaquer have wrestled each other. Mone was victorious when they met in the Strong Women’s title tournament last year.
