The Octagon is back into arenas in the United States for fight night events for the first time since before the pandemic as they return to Columbus for the first time since March 2009 with a heavyweight main event.

Heavyweight contenders Curtis Blaydes and Chris Daukaus square off in the five-round headline bout. Blaydes is fresh under a new UFC contract as he looks for his second straight win after finishing Shamil Abdurakhimov at UFC 266 in September. Daukaus is looking to rebound from his first UFC loss, which came to Derrick Lewis in December.

In the co-main event, it is a battle of women’s flyweight contenders as Joanne Wood looks to end a two-fight losing skid against Alexa Grasso, winner of two straight. Also on the main card is a potential title eliminator at flyweight as Askar Askarov battles Kai Kara-France, a welterweight bout between hometown hero Matt Brown and Bryan Barberena, and a welterweight clash between Neil Magny, who is looking to tie a UFC record, against Max Griffin.

Nothing happening in the first minute as they’re just circling around. They trade inside the pocket for a brief moment. Dvorak lands a couple of right hands. Dvorak lands a right hand. Nicolau circling around. Nicolau lands a nice left hand. They’re still circling and not much happened during the round. 10-9 Dvorak.

She gets back to the half-guard of Rosa. McMann with a right hand to the body. McMann with some right hands to the body. McMann with some right hands from the top. Diakiese immediately going for a takedown. They’re battling in the wrestling against the fence and Diakiese gets the takedown. He’s working from the top and they get up and Diakiese gets another takedown and is in side control. He’s looking for the arm from the side. Diakiese gets back in the guard and ends the round on top. 10-9 Diakiese.

Diakiese landing some leg kicks and gets a takedown. He’s working from the side and takes the back. Diakiese lands a right hand as Borshchev lands a back elbow. They get to their feet and Diakiese lands some knees to the thighs and gets the fight back to the mat. They get back to their feet. Welcome to F4WOnline.com’s live coverage of UFC on ESPN+ 57: Lewis vs. Daukaus, emanating from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The UFC holds their final event of 2021, ending the year in their primary venue of the year, the UFC APEX in their home base of Las Vegas, and they close it out with a strong card featuring a heavyweight main event.

Former title challenger Derrick Lewis looks to get back in the win column when he takes on red-hot Chris Daukaus in the five-round headline bout. Lewis is coming off a disappointing loss to Ciryl Gane at UFC 265 in August in an interim title fight, and he looks to start another run at a title shot here. Daukaus enters this fight riding a five-fight win streak, the last four coming in the UFC, with all coming by knockout.

In the co-main event, Stephen Thompson also looks to start another run towards a title shot as he looks to hand Belal Muhammad his first loss in nearly three years. Also on the main card is a women’s strawweight fight between Amanda Lemos and Angela Hill, a battle of bantamweights as Raphael Assuncao takes on Ricky Simon, an exciting lightweight match-up pitting Diego Ferreira against Mateusz Gamrot, and a battle of UFC veterans as Cub Swanson goes against Darren Elkins.

Parisian scrambles out from the bottom and they’re clinched. Mayes with a knee to the body. Parisian lands a hard knee to the body. Mayes gets a big takedown and is in side control and landing left hands. Mayes with a big elbow. He lands more elbows as he has Parisian trapped in the crucifix position.
