Matt Cardona vs. Joey Janela set for The Wrld on GCW

Stemming from an angle the two have been shooting on social media, Matt Cardona vs. Joey Janela has been announced for The Wrld on GCW pay-per-view on Sunday, January 23.

Playing off the Ric Flair-Randy Savage angle from WrestleMania VIII, Cardona and Janela have been going back and forth on Twitter regarding Cardona’s wife Chelsea Green. With Janela in the role of Flair, Cardona in the Savage role, and Green as Miss Elizabeth, Cardona demanded a match with Janela. That match is now set for the Hammerstein Ballroom on the 23rd, and Green will be in Cardona’s corner.

Green tweeted:

It was announced earlier today that The Wrld on GCW will be available on traditional pay-per-view in addition to FITE TV. Cardona vs. Janela is one of four matches now official for the card. Here is the lineup:

  • Matt Cardona (w/Chelsea Green) vs. Joey Janela
  • Ruby Soho vs. Allie Katch
  • ROH World Championship: Jonathan Gresham vs. Blake Christian
  • Team Bandido (Bandido, Laredo Kid & ASF) vs. Team Gringo (Gringo Loco, Demonic Flamita & Arez)

Chelsea Green wins NWA Women’s Invitational Cup at Empower

Chelsea Green has won the NWA Women’s Invitational, setting up tomorrow’s Women’s Championship match.

The last two participants in the ring were Green and Tootie Lynn, a hometown favorite. The finish had Green go for the unprettier, but Lynn countered it with a backslide. Green connected with a ripcord elbow then pinned Lynn with the unprettier to win the match. With that win, Green will now challenge Kamille for the NWA Women’s title at the NWA 73 show that will take place on Sunday.

Other participants in the match included Bianca Carelli, Debbie Malenko, Lady Frost, Jamie Senegal, Jennacide, Kiera Hogan, Masha Slamovich, and Thunder Kitty.

The full card for Sunday’s show is the following:

  • Nick Aldis vs. Trevor Murdoch for the NWA World Heavyweight title – if Murdoch loses, his career is over
  • Kamille vs. Chelsea Green for the NWA Women’s title
  • Chris Adonis vs. James Storm for the NWA National title
  • Aron Stevens and JR Kratos vs. Bestia 666 and Mecha Wolf 450 for the NWA World Tag Team titles
  • Thom Latimer vs. Crimson vs. Tim Storm in a “Brawl in the Lou” match
  • 12-man gauntlet battle royal to determine the number one contender for the NWA National title

Chelsea Green, WWE resolving issue over trademarking of birth name

Chelsea Green and WWE are in the process of resolving a dispute over the trademarking of her birth name.

On Sunday, Green tweeted, “I never thought I’d be in a legal battle for my birth given name” and that she would discuss it more on the Monday edition of her podcast.

She had given WWE consent to allow them to file a trademark on her name last November upon signing a new contract as she was called up to the main roster for SmackDown.

She then got injured and was released in April. However, WWE was apparenly trying to keep ownership of the trademark despite that being her real name.

Fightful reported that WWE reached out to Green and said they were going to release the trademark so she could use it which they also confirmed with Green. She said would elaborate more on her podcast.

Green is currently working with both Impact Wrestling and Ring of Honor.

Chelsea Green set for NWA Empower Women’s Invitational Cup

Chelsea Green will be making her NWA debut at this month’s Empower pay-per-view.

During an Instagram Live video on Tuesday night, Mickie James announced that Green will be part of the NWA Women’s Invitational Cup at Empower. The Women’s Invitational Cup will feature 10 participants, with the winner advancing to challenge for the NWA Women’s World Championship at the NWA’s 73rd anniversary PPV the next night.

Kamille is the current NWA Women’s World Champion. She’ll be defending her title at Empower.

Empower is taking place at the Chase Park Plaza hotel in St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday, August 28. NWA 73 will be held at the venue on Sunday, August 29.

The Women’s Invitational Cup will be the main event of Empower. Tootie Lynn and Jamie Senegal have also been announced for the battle royal.

James is the executive producer of the all-women’s Empower PPV. James has said she won’t be wrestling at Empower but will be wrestling at NWA 73.

It’s been announced that Impact Wrestling Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo will be in action at Empower.

James and Green were both released by WWE this April.

Green returned to Impact Wrestling at last month’s Slammiversary PPV. Green was also supposed to be one of the participants in ROH’s Women’s World Championship tournament, but she wasn’t cleared to compete by the Maryland State Athletic Commission. Green did commentary for the first tournament match on the latest episode of ROH TV.

Chelsea Green returns to Impact Wrestling at Slammiversary

Chelsea Green has returned to Impact Wrestling.

Green appeared as Matt Cardona’s mystery partner at tonight’s Slammiversary PPV. Green and Cardona defeated Brian Myers and Tenille Dashwood in a mixed tag match.

It has been a busy week for Green, as she also appeared on this past Sunday’s Ring of Honor PPV, Best in the World. Green stated at Best in the World that she wanted to wrestle on that show, but was deemed unfit by the Maryland State Athletic Commission due to her wrist injury, originally suffered on WWE SmackDown in November 2020. Green was released by WWE on April 15, 2021.

Returning to her “Hot Mess” persona, Green wrestled with a cast on her arm at Slammiversary, but it was announced on the broadcast that she had been cleared for competition.

Green had a prior stint in Impact from 2016 to 2018, wrestling primarily as  Laurel Van Ness. She claimed the Impact Knockouts Championship one time, beating Rosemary to win the vacant title in 2018.

Chelsea Green joins Ring of Honor

While rumors had her joining Impact Wrestling, Chelsea Green’s first stop post-WWE will be in Ring of Honor as she debuted during Sunday’s Best in the World.

In her promo, the “Hot Mess” said she wanted to wrestle tonight but the Maryland Athletic Commission deemed her unfit to compete. She said when her cast came off in a month, we wouldn’t have to wait 90 days to see her in action. Fightful had reported that she had requested an early release from WWE.

She will not be part of the upcoming Women’s title tournament which kicks off on July 31st on ROH TV. Quinn McKay can earn the spot left open when Maria Kanellis-Bennett removed Vita Vonstarr if McKay can beat Mandy Leon in an upcoming match.

Green was released by WWE in April as part of a group of cuts that included Samoa Joe and The Iiconics. Green suffered a broken wrist last November while making her Smackdown debut and hasn’t been in the ring since.

Chelsea Green on nixed WWE creative plans, getting released

In a new interview, Chelsea Green described her experiences with WWE creative, a long meeting she had with Vince McMahon and finding out when she was released last week.

Green told Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful that she was surprised by her release as she had been waiting for a return since breaking her wrist in a Survivor Series qualifying match last year on SmackDown in her main roster debut.

“I actually was totally shocked, not going to lie,” she said. “I was totally shocked. I understand it…I wasn’t used. When I was used, I broke my arm. So, I was definitely shocked.”

She noted that she didn’t go to WrestleMania 37 due to COVID-19 restrictions, but had been planning on going to SmackDown this past Friday prior to the releases that took place Thursday afternoon.

She had been called up from NXT in late 2019, but was not used on television for months. A number of ideas had popped up, including being Charlotte Flair’s protege, a “Pussycat Dolls meets Charlie’s Angels” group with Vanessa Borne and Santana Garrett, and a storyline where she would stalk Mickie James in an angle similar to the James/Trish Stratus storyline from 2005.

In regards to meeting Vince McMahon, Green recalled trying to get a meeting him, which she was able to do after waiting outside his office after four weeks. She was eventually able to pitch fifteen to twenty different ideas for her character over a half hour meeting.

“We talked about each one,” she said. “We talked about what ones would work and what wouldn’t. He asked me why I thought certain things would work and why I thought certain things wouldn’t. Two weeks later, I was in that Survivor Series qualifying match.”

When asked if she thought she would have been released if she hadn’t broken her wrist, she said no. “I’m not really one to dwell on what-ifs,” she said. “There’s a couple of what-ifs in my career that I linger on, but that’s life. And not only is that life, that is definitely pro wrestling.”

Green confirmed that she was offered a contract renewal prior to her injury and re-signed with the company for three years. She also confirmed that it was John Laurinaitis who called her with the news that she was released, citing budget cuts.

WWE’s Chelsea Green undergoing surgery for broken wrist

Chelsea Green is undergoing surgery for the injury she suffered during her SmackDown debut.

Green debuted on SmackDown last night but suffered a broken left wrist while facing Liv Morgan, Tamina, and Natalya in a fatal four-way Survivor Series qualifying match. Morgan pinned Tamina to get the win after Green was injured early on and plans for the match had to be adjusted.

In a tweet posted this morning, Green announced that she was heading into surgery: “Just like the rest of my career, I couldn’t have an easy debut! LOL, that just wouldn’t be fit for my wild journey. I’m headed into surgery now. I am beyond devastated but so excited to be a part of @WWE team SmackDown, when I get back!”

Green’s fiance Matt Cardona (formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE) posted on Instagram last night: “Welp…tonight was bittersweet. I’ve seen her get told no by WWE…to getting hired…to doing nothing in NXT…to finally get a NXT match but breaking her wrist during it…to getting surgery, rehabbing, coming back and still doing nothing…to getting ‘called up’…to going back to NXT…to getting ‘called up’ again…to debuting on Raw but it was a taped episode and segment was cut…to doing nothing…to finally debuting on SmackDown tonight…but breaking her wrist and needing surgery again! JESUS! But @chelseaagreen is a fighter and she will come back again and be the STAR that she is destined to be. I love you.”

Last night was Green’s first match since the May 27 episode of NXT. She had been set to be called up for months prior to debuting last night.

Chelsea Green injured during WWE SmackDown debut

Chelsea Green made her SmackDown debut tonight, but an injury prevented things from going according to plan.

Green faced Liv Morgan, Tamina, and Natalya in a fatal four-way Survivor Series qualifying match on tonight’s show. Morgan won the match by pinning Tamina after Green was injured early on.

In a post on Instagram, Green announced that she broke her arm in tonight’s match : “Just another twist in my @wwe story tonight! If you wondered where I went after my entrance, here’s your answer… another broken arm. Nothing I haven’t dealt with before! I’ll be back before you know it!”

WWE.com wrote about Green’s injury:

During Friday’s Fatal 4-Way Match for the opportunity to qualify for the SmackDown Women’s Survivor Series team, Chelsea Green suffered a broken left wrist.

Chelsea was taken to a local medical facility for further evaluation.

Check back with WWE.com for further details as they become available.

Green had been set to be called up for months prior to officially arriving on SmackDown tonight. There was a backstage segment on tonight’s show where Adam Pearce told Natalya that he was putting her in another Survivor Series qualifier, but Natalya wanted to be added to the team without having to qualify. After Natalya left, Green appeared in Pearce’s office. It was then announced before the qualifying match that it had been changed from a triple threat to a fatal four-way with Green added.

Fightful reported that Green was originally supposed to win tonight’s qualifying match.

Prior to tonight, Green hadn’t wrestled since the May 27 episode of NXT. She teamed with Charlotte Flair to defeat Io Shirai & Rhea Ripley on that show. There was a post-show angle following that episode where Green departed the Robert Stone Brand and fired Robert Stone as her manager.

Chelsea Green debuts, Liv Morgan qualifies for WWE Survivor Series

Months after being set for a main roster call-up, Chelsea Green officially debuted on SmackDown tonight.

Green took part in a fatal four-way Survivor Series qualifying match on tonight’s SmackDown. Liv Morgan defeated Natalya, Tamina, and Green in the match. Morgan pinned Tamina to get the win.

Morgan joins Bianca Belair and Ruby Riott on SmackDown’s Survivor Series women’s team. There are two spots left on SmackDown’s women’s team for their five-on-five Survivor Series elimination match against Team Raw. Shayna Baszler, Nia Jax, Mandy Rose, Dana Brooke, and Lana are on Team Raw. Survivor Series is taking place on Sunday, November 22.

Fightful Select reported that Green was originally scheduled to win tonight’s qualifying match, but a change had to be called on the fly when Green was taken out of the match early on.

Prior to tonight’s match, there was a backstage segment where Adam Pearce told Natalya that he was putting her in another Survivor Series qualifier. Natalya called herself the best of all time and wanted to be added to the team without qualifying. After Natalya left Pearce’s office, Green appeared and put her hand on Pearce’s shoulder.

The qualifying match was about to start as a triple threat between Morgan, Natalya, and Tamina, but it was announced that Green was being added to make it a fatal four-way.

Tonight was the first time Green has wrestled since the May 27 episode of NXT. There was a post-show angle after that episode where Green fired Robert Stone as her manager. WrestleTalk first reported this June that Green was being discussed for a main roster call-up.

Full lineup set for NXT number one contender’s ladder match

The full lineup is set for NXT’s number one contender’s ladder match.

By winning a second chance gauntlet match on NXT tonight, Dakota Kai became the final wrestler to qualify for the ladder match. The ladder match is airing on NXT next Wednesday and will feature Chelsea Green, Mia Yim, Tegan Nox, Io Shirai, Candice LeRae, and Kai.

Shotzi Blackheart defeated Deonna Purrazzo at the start of the gauntlet match tonight. Blackheart then eliminated Xia Li, Aliyah, and Kayden Carter before the match came down to her and Kai.

Blackheart avoided interference by Raquel Gonzalez, but the distraction allowed Kai to get the win.

The ladder match was originally supposed to take place at NXT TakeOver: Tampa. Tommaso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano will also air on NXT next week, with their match being billed as “Blackheart vs. Rebel Heart: One Final Beat.”

NXT Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley is defending her title against Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 36. The winner of that match will defend their title against the ladder match winner at some point in the future.

WWE Main Event results: Chelsea Green makes her show debut

The Big Takeaway: Chelsea Green made her Main Event debut, pinning Sarah Logan in a solid opener. Mojo Rawley saw off No Way Jose at the end of the show to round off a pretty meager first Main Event of 2020.

**********

Chelsea Green defeated Sarah Logan (5:20)

Chelsea Green came out as the heel here to make her Main Event debut. Having made her first appearance on Raw only a few weeks ago, 2020 could be a big year for Green.

Green has worked for most of the major US promotions despite only turning 29 this year. Like Logan, Green came up from NXT where she had mixed success, but they worked well together here.

Logan has certainly improved over the last year, but will still likely find it hard to find a role on the main roster right now. Objectively, it looks more conceivable for Green.

Green used a top rope missile dropkick and wasn’t afraid to trash talk Logan or posture to a crowd that was largely quite indifferent. She finished Logan off with an Unprettier to pick up her first main roster win.

Mojo Rawley defeated No Way Jose (6:36)

After having made a rare Raw appearance in a Christmas street fight against Kevin Owens in December, it was back to Main Event for Mojo Rawley.

Rawley came out and cut a pre-match promo. He buried the crowd, saying that they weren’t smart enough to understand what he meant and said that he was going to embarrass Jose, who he called a “clown.”

They did plenty of back and forth. And for a match that has been on Main Event countless times, they did a few new things. Jose’s top rope crossbody looked really good — even though Rawley needlessly kicked out at one. At one point, he also hit Rawley with a backstabber.

But even with numerous quick camera cuts, the finish looked poor. Rawley had whipped Jose into the corner and then completely missed him with a running forearm. Jose sold it well enough, but overall this was quite sloppy in spots.

NXT Venice, FL, live results: Chelsea Green returns to the ring

After undergoing surgery for a broken wrist in March, Chelsea Green returned to the ring at NXT’s house show in Venice, Florida last night.

Green teamed with Deonna Purrazzo and lost to Lacey Lane & Kacy Catanzaro at Saturday’s event. It was the first time Green has wrestled since suffering the broken wrist during a dark match where she defeated Jessie Elaban at a set of NXT television tapings on March 13.

It was confirmed in October 2018 that Green, who was a former Knockouts Champion as Laurel Van Ness in Impact Wrestling, had signed with WWE. She has yet to make her NXT TV debut.

Here are the results from Saturday’s house show (estimated attendance: 300 people):

– Jeet Rama defeated Dexter Lumis

– Lacey Lane & Kacy Catanzaro defeated Deonna Purrazzo & Chelsea Green

– Cezar Bononi defeated Ridge Holland

– Mansoor Al-Shehail defeated Denzel Dejournette

– Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch won a four-way elimination tag match

Isiah “Swerve” Scott & Dio Maddin eliminated Rocky & Boa, Dorian Mak & Riddick Moss eliminated Scott & Maddin, and Lorcan & Burch won by eliminating Mak & Moss.

– Damian Priest defeated Raul Mendoza

– NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler defeated Rachael Evers

– NXT North American Champion Velveteen Dream & Keith Lee defeated The Forgotten Sons (Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler)
