  • PWInsider is reporting another segment has been removed from Peacock, this time from a July 6, 1998 episode of Raw where members of D-Generation X dressed as The Nation of Domination. The episode is not yet on Peacock, but was removed from a video package that aired during the SummerSlam 1998 broadcast.
  • Charly Arnholt, formerly Charly Caruso, spoke to TVInsider about her departure from WWE, saying nothing bad happened. “There is always going to be chatter,” she said. “The contract was coming up. Instead of renewing, I’m moving on. Everyone is going to have their own opinions regardless. I never had any issues while I was at WWE. Nothing bad happened. As far as I’m concerned, I’m leaving on a positive note and beginning what I believe to be the next step in my career.”
  • Guests on this week’s episode of The Bump include The New Day, Trish Stratus, Mick Foley, Jerry Lawler, Sami Zayn, and Carmella.
  • During today’s episode of The Bump, it was announced that the show will be airing three times next week during WrestleMania week: the normal Wednesday show, Saturday at 1 pm ET for WrestleMania day one, and Sunday at 1 pm ET for WrestleMania day 2.
  • Next Wednesday’s episode of The Bump will be a NXT Stand and Deliver edition of the show. It will feature Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Raquel Gonzalez, Adam Cole, LA Knight, Izzy, Scarlett, and Karrion Kross.
  • Young Rock last night on NBC averaged 2,523,000 viewers, down from last week’s 2.872,000.
  • A sneak peek of Wipeout on TBS with host John Cena earned 775,000 viewers with a 0.29 in the 18-49 demographic, putting it in sixth place for the night on cable.
  • A member of the Tennessee Senate has introduced a resolution honoring Knox County Mayor Glen Jacobs (Kane) for his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.
  • MVP clarified on Twitter that King Corbin is not a member of The Hurt Business.
  • William Regal told Daily Star that he pushed WWE to sign Sasha Banks, to the point that he was ready to leave the company over it. “I wasn’t doing this job then but in the afternoon at the shows, I’d always be training outside the ring and she’d be one of the ones who would always come and talk,” he said. “When it came to me getting this job… I went to them [about Sasha] and said ‘look, if this doesn’t work out, you can fire me. To see the way she has come through this, and to see what she’s done [is] incredible.”
  • G. Gordon Liddy, a former FBI agent that was later linked to the Watergate scandal that ended the presidency of Richard Nixon, passed away yesterday at the age of 90. In professional wrestling, he appeared at WrestleMania 2 as a celebrity judge for the Mr. T vs. Roddy Piper boxing match.
  • WWE Supercard has added a new WrestleMania 37 tier to their game. Other new additions include a WrestleMania 37 sweepstakes, a new WrestleMania 37 quest to collect Silver and Gold Doubloons, and a new Dust Meter that, when enough Dust is collected, leads to a new exclusive draft board.
  • Edge spoke to Sports Illustrated on their podcast to discuss his upcoming WrestleMania main event.
  • Drew McIntyre recently did a video promoting the Tampa Bay Rays.
  • Brian Kendrick was profiled in a recent WWE PC YouTube video, revealing he has retired and is working in NXT as a producer.
  • Rhea Ripley spoke to the New York Post on her upcoming WrestleMania match and Charlotte Flair.
  • The Tampa Bay Times has an article focusing on the local aspect of WrestleMania, focusing on wrestlers who live in the Tampa area.
  • The company has filed for new trademarks on Becky Lynch and Riddick Moss.

Other Wrestling

  • According to Mitch Salem from ShowBuzz Daily, Impact last night scored 38,000 viewers with a 0.01 in 18-34, down dramatically from last week’s 118,000 viewers. Unless there was an error involved, this is by far the lowest number of the year thus far. This was their final Tuesday show prior to their move to Thursdays starting next week.
  • Here is the pre-show for tonight’s AEW Dynamite.
  • Hana Kimura’s mother, Kyoko, has launched a new non-profit organization called Remember Hana. The organization’s goal is to prevent bullying and end the stigma of mental healthcare.
  • The Mainichi reported that Japan’s human rights broadcasting ethics organization concluded that Terrace House broadcaster Fuji Television failed to give sufficient consideration to the mental well being of Kimura.
  • Tony Khan on Twitter: “It’s Wednesday, you know what that means! In the past week we’ve celebrated the 1 year anniversary of Mr. Brodie Lee’s 1st match on #AEWDynamite; he’s irreplaceable in the hearts of his wonderful family + his countless fans worldwide, & tonight’s show, as always, is in his honor.”
  • Daily Echo reports that James Thomas Alexander Riley, a UK wrestler from Ferndown, was sentenced to 21 months in prison following a spot where he kicked his opponent full force in the face, leading his opponent to be hospitalized for facial fractures. His opponent was also granted a restraining order for ten years against Riley.
  • The Spectrum has an article on Empire State Wrestling in Buffalo, NY and how they have dealt with COVID-19.
  • The latest Aces High looks at Tanahashi’s career in 2006, including his run in the NJPW project Lock-Up.

Former WWE interviewer Charly Caruso joining ESPN full-time

Former WWE broadcast team member Charly Caruso (real name Charly Arnolt) is joining ESPN on a full-time basis.

It was announced today that, as part of a new, multi-year contract extension with ESPN, Arnolt is joining ESPN full time starting in early April. Arnolt first began working for ESPN in 2018 but had remained with WWE until she stopped appearing on WWE television in recent weeks.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Arnolt was no longer with WWE:

Charly Caruso (Charly Arnolt, 33) is gone from the company. There have been conflicting reports, some that she was fired and others that she simply won’t be used until the expiration of her contract. She was replaced by Kevin Egan, who is known as Kevin Patrick, in the role of backstage interviewer and host of Raw Talk. She was last used on 2/22. Fightful reported it was due to being late for interviews with [Randy] Orton and Sheamus, who complained about it. The only thing we were told is that she had too much heat with too many people. She had been with the company since August 2016 and also had done work for ESPN since 2018, including currently hosting a women’s version of PTI on the station using her real name. Before being pulled from television she had turned down a new long-term contract some time back and had been looking at non-wrestling projects.

ESPN wrote that, in addition to being a co-host of the First Take, Her Take podcast, Arnolt will “continue to contribute to select editions of ESPN’s morning debate show First Take and the network’s signature news and information show, SportsCenter. Arnolt will regularly appear on ESPN+’s weekday morning show, SportsNation along with other digital shows across the industry-leading sports streaming service as well.”

“It is so incredibly exciting to become a full-time member of the ESPN family,” Arnolt said. “I look forward to continuing to grow with such a talented group of professionals and I can’t wait for all the opportunities that lie ahead.”

“From radio and podcasts to TV and streaming, Charly continues to thrive across any platform she pursues,” David Roberts, ESPN senior vice president, production said. “We are excited to have her join ESPN full time and interact with fans even more regularly across the network.”

In an Instagram post today, Arnolt thanked those in WWE who she’s connected with over last four-plus years and thanked the WWE fans:

I am SO excited to announce I have accepted a full-time position with ESPN! It feels so rewarding to take this next step in my career with a company that has really fostered my growth, and given me a bounty of huge opportunities, since first bringing me on board in 2018.

As I take this monumental next step in my career, I can’t do so without thanking so many of the people at WWE who I’ve spent the last nearly 5 years with. Thank you to those on and off camera who I had the chance to connect with not only professionally, but personally. Some true gems! And of course, thank you to the WWE Universe, a network of some of the most loyal fans in the world. I hope you all continue to stay in touch because your encouragement means everything! Charly Caruso reportedly done with WWE

WWE on-screen personality Charly Caruso is reportedly done with the company and isn’t expected to re-sign when her deal is up.

Fightful first reported there were backstage issues when the 34-year-old was consistently late for interviews for WWE Raw, specifically with Randy Orton and Sheamus, that led to her being removed from TV. Vince McMahon was reportedly told about what was happening and “took exception” to the situation. 

PWInsider reported Friday that she is done on TV and is expected to leave. The recent hiring of Kevin Patrick (Kevin Egan) as a backstage correspondent and the host of Raw Talk essentially confirmed it. Her last appearance was on the February 22nd edition of Raw Talk.

Caruso (real name Charly Arnolt) has done double-duty with ESPN since 2018 and has been frequently seen on First Take. She was recently part of their first-ever all women’s edition of the show. She has yet to post anything publicly about the situation.

The Indianapolis, IN, native has been with WWE since 2016 when she began in NXT. She was the host of Raw Talk and various pay-per-view kickoff shows following Renee Paquette’s departure last August.

WWE announces pre-show for Wednesday’s NXT episode

Ahead of a loaded up card, WWE will be airing an NXT pre-show next Wednesday (October 2).

It was announced today that Charly Caruso, Sam Roberts, and Pat McAfee will host a 30-minute pre-show prior to Wednesday’s NXT episode. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time and will air on the WWE Network, WWE.com, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.

NXT will begin airing live on USA Network for its full two hours starting on Wednesday. It’s also the start of NXT going head-to-head with AEW Dynamite, with both shows airing from 8-10 p.m. Eastern.

Three title matches have been announced for Wednesday’s NXT episode. Adam Cole will defend his NXT Championship against Matt Riddle, Candice LeRae will challenge for Shayna Baszler’s NXT Women’s Championship, and The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) will get their rematch for Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish’s NXT Tag Team titles.

Johnny Gargano will also face Shane Thorne on Wednesday’s NXT. The episode will have “limited commercial interruption.”

Charly Caruso joins ESPN, not leaving WWE

Charly Caruso has joined ESPN and will now be working with them and WWE.

While using her real name (Charly Arnolt), Caruso started in her on-air role with ESPN today. In a post on Instagram, Caruso confirmed that she’s now an ESPN employee. She noted that she isn’t leaving WWE and wrote that WWE is still her home.

“Charly Arnolt…ESPN. WHAAAAAT!!! Been waiting my whole life to say those 4 letters! So yep, here I am — officially an ESPN employee! (No, I am NOT leaving WWE! That’s still my home and I am so happy there!),” Caruso wrote.

“I’ll be doing a few things at ESPN from time to time for now, including SportsCenter updates and hosting the SportsCenter on Snapchat show. I’m still in disbelief. WWE + ESPN = KILLER COMBO! I am so incredible appreciative and fortunate for both of these wonderful opportunities! Check me out all day today and tomorrow doing SC updates!”

Caruso also worked in sports broadcasting before coming to WWE in 2016. She’s currently an interviewer on Raw, hosts NXT TakeOver pre-show panels, and co-hosts This Week in WWE with Scott Stanford.
