AEW tag team announces return

The Butcher and The Blade are set to return as a tag team.

The Blade made his in-ring return last month in his hometown of Buffalo after nearly two years away. He had been out of action with a serious back injury since February 2024 and underwent spinal fusion surgery that September.

His tag team partner The Butcher has also wrestled sparingly over the past year. His last appearance on AEW programming came on the May 2, 2025, episode of AEW Collision, where he lost a singles match to Gabe Kidd.

The last time The Butcher and The Blade appeared under the AEW/ROH banner was the January 10, 2024, Ring of Honor taping from Daily’s Place, where they lost a tag match to Top Flight’s Dante and Darius Martin. It was also the last time the two wrestled as a team.

Both The Butcher and The Blade posted to Instagram on Thursday announcing the return of their tag team.

The Butcher wrote, “Butcher and Blade are back bitch. Watch your mouthes tag teams. @aew”

The Blade wrote, “The Butcher And The Blade 2026. Coming soon to professional wrestling near you #wrestling #prowrestling #aew #allelitewrestling”

AEW’s The Blade dealing with depression, anxiety issues

In an Instagram post Tuesday, AEW wrestler The Blade revealed he is dealing with anxiety, depression and confidence issues.

Blade (Jesse Guilmette) hasn’t appeared for the company since October 6th when he was part of a Dark: Elevation taping prior to that night’s Dynamite.

In his statement, seen below, he said he noticed an “extreme spike” of those emotions during the pandemic and had another spike recently which forced him to talk to executives at AEW, admitting that “getting the courage to speak up to them was more difficult than it sounds…”

Blade and tag team partner The Butcher (Andy Williams) have been a fixture in AEW since December 2019. Butcher returned to singles action on the last set of AEW Dark tapings in Orlando, Florida. Blade has been married to AEW’s The Bunny (Laura Dennis) since September 2013.

“It feels good to tell you this and to take off my mask. It helps to talk about my struggles instead of holding them inside, and I’m feeling more confident and comfortable around people. Thank you for listening. I’m sorry if I’ve been distant lately. I love you and I can’t wait to see you soon,” he wrote.

Young Bucks-Butcher & Blade, Ivelisse set for next AEW Dynamite

After three weeks of Fyter Fest and Fight for the Fallen, AEW Dynamite will return next Wednesday with a six match lineup, headlined by a falls count anywhere match.

In that match, the Young Bucks will face The Butcher & The Blade, continuing the rivalry that has lasted for nearly a month. Following FTR’s win over the Lucha Bros on Wednesday’s show, the Bucks surprised Butcher & Blade who were watching, dishing out a pair of superkicks before returning FTR’s truck keys to them.

Also announced for the show:

  • Cody will defend the TNT title against a challenger to be named. He defeated Sonny Kiss on Wednesday’s show to retain.
  • Ivelisse will return to AEW for the first time since the 2019 women’s Casino Battle Royale to take on Diamante. This will be the first in-ring action for the SHINE women’s champion since the SHINE 65 pay-per-view on February 29th.
  • Hangman Page will be in televised singles competition for the first time since the November 27th Dynamite Diamond Ring finals when he faces Five of the Dark Order, accompanied by Mr. Brodie Lee.
  • Jurassic Express will face Chris Jericho and Jake Hager, helped along by Marko Stunt laughing at Jericho’s impromptu orange juice bath Wednesday.
  • MJF (with Wardlow) will be in action against an unnamed opponent.

FTR in-ring debut, Cody-Marq Quen set for next AEW Dynamite

Two weeks after they first made their presence felt, FTR will make their AEW in-ring debut against The Butcher & The Blade on next week’s edition of Dynamite.

In that debut segment, FTR (the former Revival) were attempting to stare down the Young Bucks, but kept getting jumped by Butcher and Blade, eventually driving them out of the ring with a spike piledriver and Shatter Machine, respectively. On this week’s show, Butcher and Blade busted into the set where FTR was doing an interview which eventually led to a match being booked.

After being off for two months, Butcher and Blade returned to action on the May 27th edition of Dark where they defeated Joe Alonzo and Jon Cruz. This will be FTR’s first action since a WWE house show on March 1st.

Additonally for next week:

  • TNT Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Marq Quen: During commentary, Tony Schiavone said that Ray Fenix would be challenging the winner of Cody vs. Jungle Boy instead, contradicting a graphic that ran during the rundown for next week. However, Tony Khan clarified on Twitter that Quen is getting the shot.
  • Colt Cabana vs. Sammy Guevara: Cabana lost to Inner Circle teammate Chris Jericho on Wednesday’s show and interfered in the match early on.
  • Inner Circle (Santana, Ortiz, Jake Hager) vs. Best Friends and Orange Cassidy: There wasn’t any conflict between the teams on this week’s Dynamite, but there was a confrontation between Cassidy and Jericho following the latter’s win over Cabana.

Jurassic Express-Butcher & The Blade added to next AEW Dynamite

AEW continued with their plans to hold Dynamite this Wednesday at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida, announcing a tag match between The Butcher & The Blade and Jurassic Express.

The match is a tie-in to last Wednesday’s Dynamite when both teams were in a six-man tag as MJF joined Butcher & The Blade, a match the heels won when MJF tapped out Marko Stunt.

This week’s show was originally scheduled for Rochester, NY, but had to be moved due to New York State banning any assemblies of 500 people or more due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Jacksonville venue is owned by the Khan family and the show will be open to families and media but not the general public as of this point.

Also announced for the show:

  • The debut of Dark Order’s Exalted One.
  • The Inner Circle vs. The Elite six-man tag where the winners will have the advantage for the upcoming Blood & Guts match in less than two weeks (which also needs a home location after being moved)
  • Lucha Bros vs. Best Friends
