NXT Green Bay, WI, live results: Bobby Roode vs. Kassius Ohno

Submitted by reader Josh Hayes

– Johnny Gargano defeated Velveteen Dream

Gargano was super over as a babyface. Dream was booed initially, but the crowd turned around on him as they had a great match. Gargano sold for a while before making his comeback. There was some quick back and forth that ended with Velveteen Dream missing his top rope elbow drop and Gargano putting him in the Gargano Escape for the win.

– Ruby Riot defeated Mandy Rose

Rose was pretty over here despite not getting TV time, but the crowd loved Riot. Rose has seemed to improve a lot and they did some good back and forth. Rose started trash talking and saying that Riot would never look like her, then the finish came out of nowhere as Riot hit her up-kick for the victory.

– Roderick Strong defeated Hideo Itami

They had an awesome match, doing hard-hitting chops, kicks, forearms, and elbows. The audience was really into Strong, though Itami didn’t get much of a heel response. Itami went for the GTS, then Strong got out of it and hit the End of Heartache for the win.

– Aleister Black & Drew McIntyre defeated Andrade “Cien” Almas & Cezar Bononi

Black and McIntyre got huge reactions. Almas got a bit of a reaction and Bononi didn’t get much. The heel team acted as reluctant tag partners and refused to tag the other in.

The match started slow, but the crowd was into it by the end. Almas and Bononi agreed to work together and got the heat on Black, which led to him making a comeback and getting the hot tag to McIntyre. McIntyre backdropped Black to the top so that he could hit his moonsault to the floor on Almas, with McIntyre hitting the Claymore Kick on Bononi for the win.

Black and McIntyre celebrated as McIntyre got huge babyface love from the crowd.

– McIntyre talked to Kassius Ohno about beating Bobby Roode in their upcoming match during a backstage segment after intermission.

– Ember Moon defeated Sonya Deville

Deville seemed to still be really green. Moon hit The Eclipse to win.

– SAnitY (Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe) defeated Heavy Machinery

Heavy Machinery were super over, with Otis Dozovic wearing a Reggie White Packers jersey. Him and Tucker Knight put their opponents in bear hugs early on as each one got a bigger pop. That led to chants of “Bear Hug City.”

This was a fun match. The heels got the heat on Dozovic until Knight got a hot tag. Killian Dain took off a top turnbuckle pad during the match, which played into the finish. Dozovic was going for a Vader Bomb on Wolfe when Young yanked his foot and his head hit the exposed buckle. Wolfe then rolled him up for the win.

– NXT Champion Bobby Roode defeated Kassius Ohno to retain his title

Both guys were over and they had a great back-and-forth match. It started with mat wrestling early on as Ohno got the best of it. Roode tried to take the belt and leave, but Ohno went after him.

Ohno went for his hurricane kick at one point, but Roode moved out of the way and Ohno hit the ref. Ohno hit the rolling elbow for a visual three count, then Roode kicked out at two as a second ref came in. The second ref went to check on the first one, allowing Roode to low blow Ohno and hit the Glorious DDT for the win.

Ohno cut a promo after the match saying that he was fired three years ago, but he never gave up on himself. He noted that he beat Roode in a tag match the previous night in Milwaukee and almost beat him at this show. He said that he will never quit until he’s NXT Champion.

– Roderick Strong defeated Velveteen Dream

The crowd was strongly behind Strong throughout the match and chanted his name multiple times. Velveteen Dream wore a Chicago Cubs shirt to the ring to draw heat. The crowd was very engaged, with this being a good way to start the card. There was a quick pace to the match and both wrestlers were very crisp.

– Ruby Riot & Liv Morgan defeated Sonya Deville & Bianca Belair

There wasn’t much of a response for Deville or Belair, though Morgan got a decent pop and Riot was the clear crowd favorite. They had a standard tag match, with the heels cornering Morgan until she made a hot tag to Riot. Riot pinned Belair to get the victory.

– Johnny Gargano defeated Killian Dain

Gargano was obviously hugely over, with the crowd chanting “Johnny Wrestling” for him on multiple occasions. Dain didn’t draw much heat but did well in playing the part of the intimidating heel. They had a good match, though the crowd was desperate for Gargano to pull off more high-risk moves.

– Aleister Black defeated Andrade “Cien” Almas

Black got a huge pop during his entrance. The match had a lot of hard striking from Black and Almas playing his arrogant heel persona. The audience was quieter for this than the first two singles matches, but they popped hard for Black doing his moonsault from the middle rope. He eventually hit Black Mass to win.

– SAnitY (Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe) defeated Heavy Machinery

Heavy Machinery were over with the crowd, getting chants of “we want bear hugs” quite often. SAnitY isolated Otis Dozovic for much of this one as Young drew a lot of heat from the crowd. Young pinned Tucker Knight for the finish, then Heavy Machinery got a large ovation as they made their exit.

– Ember Moon defeated Mandy Rose

Moon was extremely over here. The crowd chanted for her as soon as she entered the ring, though Rose didn’t get much of a reaction. Both performers put on a good match and got a fairly equal amount of offense. Moon won by submission.

– Kassius Ohno & Drew McIntyre defeated NXT Champion Bobby Roode & Hideo Itami

Roode got the biggest pop of the night for his entrance, which wasn’t much of a surprise. The quality of the match exceeded everything else on the show as well. Itami got in tons of really stiff looking strikes on Ohno, with the crowd popping for them. McIntyre got the least time in the ring out of the four.

The crowd was super engaged from start to finish. While Itami was down outside of the ring, McIntyre made a quick tag to Ohno, who finished off Roode and got the pin. Roode grabbed the mic and called Ohno a fluke after the match, challenging him to a title match at their show in Green Bay on Friday.

Roode then made some disparaging comments about Milwaukee and left.

WWE NXT results: Kassius Ohno vs. Hideo Itami

The Big News: Kassius Ohno took a hard kick to the groin, getting a disqualification win over Hideo Itami in the process.

The Medium News: After destroying former TNA Knockout Lei’D Tapa, Ember Moon was officially named number one contender and will face Asuka at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn.

The Little Beaver-sized News: SAnitY confronted The Authors of Pain and got their butts kicked.

**********

Ember Moon defeated Lei’D Tapa

Lei’D Tapa becomes the most recent former TNA employee to appear on NXT television, as she went one-on-one with the woman who is arguably the top contender to the reigning, defending, undisputed NXT Women’s Champion, Asuka, Ember Moon.

Tapa came out strong and fast, but Moon quickly turned things into her advantage, using, among other things, a tornado vertical suplex, and she picked up the win in less than two minutes with The Eclipse. This match almost lasted as long as Tapa’s run in TNA.

Moon grabbed the mic after the match and declared that she wanted Asuka at TakeOver: Brooklyn. She announced that she is standing right here and will give Asuka all that she desires in regards to a worthy challenger and competition.

Moon said she is not afraid and she will defeat the undefeated Empress of Tomorrow, closing up by asking Asuka if she was ready for Ember Moon.

**********

Roderick Strong went to Twitter after he lost his title match and told Bobby Roode that that was not the last he’ll see of Strong.

**********

We got an Aleister Black video package.

**********

Up next, the undefeated, undisputed, NXT Tag Team Champions, The Authors of Pain were scheduled to destroy Timothy Bumpers & David Ramos. However, it never quite got that far.

Nikki Cross met AOP on the ramp and stood in front of them as Alexander Wolfe and Killian Dain stormed to the ring through the crowd and destroyed AOP’s intended opponents. Akam and Rezar stomped to the ring and we had a brawl between the four men.

The SAnitY duo got a brief flurry, but ultimately the tag team champions stood tall, making Dain and Wolfe slink off. Wolfe did cackle at them from the ramp, but this is far from over.

**********

The Street Profits cut another Snapchat promo. For the first time we actually got names for them. If you read the NXT live event reports you already know this, but for those who don’t, they are Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins. Dawkins used to be an NXT jobber and was best remembered as the guy who wore two headbands for some reason.

**********

Two months ago, Andrade “Cien” Almas lost to Cezar Bononi but did not care until last week. Thea Trinidad was given the name of Zelina Vega. Anyway, No Way Jose chased off Almas last week, which led to a confrontation between Jose and Vega earlier today when he was arriving at the arena.

Vega said she admired Jose, but unfortunately for him he got involved in her and Almas’ business and he cannot dance around the fire that he just set.

**********

Velveteen Dream defeated Cezar Bononi

Bononi won one match two months ago, lost a second match last week, and now has his own music and titantron. I guess losing to Jose is the equivalent of paying your dues?

Bononi looked really good here. He has great size, power, and is a heck of an athlete. Despite all that, he got dropped with a rolling Death Valley Driver and the Purple Rainmaker for the pin.

Kayla Braxton tried to interview Velveteen Dream after the match, but he refused to do so in front of the ugliness of the fans. If you recall, Dream wouldn’t cut promos previously because of the horrible ambiance of the backstage area. So the stage has terrific ambiance, if only they had better looking fans, I guess?

**********

William Regal was backstage and he made Asuka vs. Ember Moon official for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn.

**********

We were then joined by Drew McIntyre, who is the number one contender and is headed to Brooklyn to challenge Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship in just a little over three weeks. McIntyre won last week against Killian Dain using the Claymore Kick.

McIntyre said he doesn’t go backwards and is not concentrating on his previous failures. He said it wasn’t until he was gone from WWE that he woke up and realized he needed to be the hardest worker in the entire world. He grew and became more successful. Every company he went to became bigger and better in part because of his hard work. That hard work brought him back to NXT.

He said everyone in NXT are equals and they walk side by side. Everyone…but one. And that one is Bobby Roode. When McIntyre looks in Roode’s eyes he sees the look of entitlement. This is not Bobby Roode’s NXT, this is all the fans’ NXT. McIntyre got the entire crowd on their feet and announced that Roode is not NXT, but we are NXT.

**********

Roode will reply to Drew McIntyre next week, plus Johnny Gargano will finally return to the ring as he faces off with Raul Mendoza. During the main event they also announced Asuka will finally return.

Speaking of Mendoza, he cut a promo saying he’s been training just as hard as Gargano and maybe next week is not so much about Johnny Gargano, but about Raul Mendoza.

**********

Kassius Ohno defeated Hideo Itami by DQ

After a night full of two minute matches and promos, it was nice to take a deep seat for the main event. These two have had differences dating back to Itami’s attitude change after losing to Roode at TakeOver: Chicago. Finally, Ohno got tired of listening to Itami’s griping and here we go.

They always say that you will hit your friends harder than you will hit people that you don’t like. With that in mind, these two must be the best of friends. Ohno and Itami did not appear to be pulling much as the sound of flesh on flesh echoed throughout the arena as Itami finally took over by knocking Ohno out of the ring and to the floor.

They chilled out afterwards as a wrestling match broke out. Itami got the heat until diving off the top rope and falling into a chop from Ohno. Ohno literally ran wild with a series of clotheslines and a cyclone boot to the jaw.

Itami battled back and hit a nice corner dropkick to Ohno. He went for a Go to Sleep, but Ohno got out and hit a big boot. Ohno went for a rolling elbow, but Itami…kicked a field goal with Ohno’s groin for the disqualification.

Itami snapped upon learning the decision and destroyed Ohno with kick after kick. Itami laid him out with two different GTS’, and I think their friendship is officially over. Itami dragged Ohno outside the ring and dropped him face-first on the ring steps.

What happened to the Hideo Itami we knew and loved? Maybe we’ll get our answers next week. Until then, remember to say your vitamins and take your prayers!

NXT Portland, OR, live results: Bobby Roode vs. Roderick Strong

Reports submitted by readers Eric Krone and Ben

– No Way Jose defeated Kona Reeves

Jose danced in the crowd during his entrance. This was a fun opening match that Jose won with his pop-up punch. He interacted with the crowd a lot.

– Lars Sullivan defeated Demitrius Bronson

Bronson, a former NFL player, wrestled in his Seattle Seahawks gear. The crowd was behind Sullivan during the match. He beat down Bronson after the match, with the crowd chanting for him to do it again and him obliging. He came back a third time and the crowd loved it.

– A promo with Velveteen Dream was shown.

– Drew McIntyre defeated Andrade “Cien” Almas

They had a great match that the crowd was into. McIntyre hit the Claymore Kick to get the victory.

– Asuka cut an in-ring promo until she was interrupted by Peyton Royce and Billie Kay. Nikki Cross ran in after they left, but Asuka fought her off as well and stood tall.

– Aleister Black defeated Velveteen Dream

Both got great reactions and the crowd was split for this match, with Black probably being the most over person on the show up to this point. He hit the Black Mass kick when Velveteen Dream went for a springboard move to get the win.

– NXT Tag Team Champions The Authors of Pain defeated Heavy Machinery to retain their titles

The crowd was hot for Tucker Knight given that he’s from Oregon. They had a match that was similar to the one from TV, with Otis Dozovic being pinned after the champions hit the Last Chapter. Paul Ellering wasn’t with them, but they did fine on their own and may have gotten the biggest heel reaction of the night.

– Ember Moon defeated Ruby Riot

Moon hit The Eclipse to win. There was a “women’s wrestling” chant from the crowd during the match.

– NXT Champion Bobby Roode defeated Roderick Strong to retain his title

The crowd was excited for Roode’s entrance, singing his theme music and doing his pose. They had a fantastic match that was easily the best of the night.

There was a ref bump during the match with a second referee coming in for a two count, but Roode ultimately retained with the Glorious DDT. Heavy Machinery came out to dump Roode back into the ring after the match and Strong stood tall.

NXT Vancouver live results: Roode & Almas vs. Strong & McIntyre

Reports submitted by readers Pedram Noury and Brett Armstrong

– No Way Jose defeated Kona Reeves

Jose got a great reaction and he plays up really well to the crowd. He won with his pop-up punch, then got the referee to do a ridiculous dance after the match.

– Ember Moon & Ruby Riot defeated Billie Kay & Peyton Royce

Moon hit The Eclipse to get the win. Everyone got a great reaction and there was a lot of silliness from the heel team.

– A backstage promo with Velveteen Dream was shown. He didn’t get much of a reaction at first, but he got big heat when he ripped off Bret Hart’s “best there is, best there was, and best there ever will be” line.

– NXT Tag Team Champions The Authors of Pain defeated Heavy Machinery to retain their titles

This was basically a rehash of their title match from TV. The champions retained after hitting the Last Chapter. Paul Ellering wasn’t at the show.

– Aleister Black defeated Velveteen Dream

Black used the Black Mass kick to win as Velveteen Dream was going for a springboard move. The match was sloppy at points, but it involved a lot of cool spots. Dream really antagonized the crowd with his antics. He got big heat for faking like he was going for a dive and when he went for a sharpshooter.

– Lars Sullivan defeated Demitrius Bronson

No one recognized Bronson. Sullivan won with his elevated Rock Bottom finisher and then gave two more to Bronson after the match. He returned to the ring at the behest of the crowd for the third one.

– NXT Women’s Champion Asuka defeated Nikki Cross to retain her title

Asuka won with a German suplex and a kick to the head. She and Bobby Roode got the strongest cheers by far before their entrances.

– Roderick Strong & Drew McIntyre defeated NXT Champion Bobby Roode & Andrade “Cien” Almas

Security had to remove two fans from the audience who had gotten into a brawl just as Strong was making his entrance. That distracted from the first three entrances a bit, but Roode came out to a huge reaction in his home country. He cut a babyface promo about Canada before insulting Vancouver, but it ended up getting universal cheers.

McIntyre pinned Almas after two Claymore Kicks and cut a promo on Roode after the match. Almas shoved Roode as they were leaving the ring, so he hit him with a Glorious DDT.

WWE NXT results: Bobby Roode vs. Roderick Strong

The Big News: Bobby Roode pinned Roderick Strong to retain the NXT Championship in an excellent main event.

The Medium News: Hideo Itami’s heel turn continued as he and Kassius Ohno lost to SAnitY.

The Little Beaver-sized News: With this being the 400th episode, I fondly remembered the greatness of NXT: Redemption.

**********

Welcome to the 400th episode of NXT! It’s hard to think this is the same show that once upon a time featured talent contests, mustache promos, Percy Watson being attacked by Percy Watson, the Goldust-Aksana wedding, Johnny Curtis’ van, the Derrick Bateman-Maxine-Kaitlyn-Johnny Curtis love rectangle, Tyson Kidd and Yoshi Tatsu feuding because Kidd broke off the leg on Tatsu’s action figure, and Matt Striker being kidnapped.

**********

Killian Dain & Alexander Wolfe defeated Hideo Itami & Kassius Ohno

Ohno has traded in the Chicago Bulls gear for Orlando Magic gear. He and Itami have been at odds the last few weeks due to Itami’s frustration at not winning the NXT Championship. This particular match was set up last week when SAnitY beat down Ohno and Itami.

Wolfe took an Ohno knee to the face so hard that he flew into the babyface corner and tried to tag out. Shockingly, that didn’t work and instead he was at the receiving end of kicks from both babyfaces. Finally, Wolfe took out Itami and SAnitY got the heat on him.

Wolfe pulled Ohno off the apron, which led to an argument around the time Itami hit his kicks and went for the tag to the invisible man. Itami made his own comeback and Ohno, back on the apron, reached for the tag, but Itami refused to tag. Itami and Ohno argued until Wolfe gave Ohno the big boot off the apron.

Itami went for the GTS, but Dain was able to tag himself in. Just as Itami dropped Wolfe, Dain ran him over with a full body attack and pinned him.

**********

Ember Moon was interviewed at the Performance Center earlier today about facing Asuka. Ruby Riot took offense to this and told Moon it was her time because she never got her shot. I guess those two triple threat matches (including the elimination match where she was the only one pinned) don’t count.

**********

We had a Drew McIntyre video package, which led to McIntyre doing an interview about tonight’s main event. He said it will be a fantastic match, but the next time he gets asked about the NXT Championship, they’ll be asking about his championship match.

McIntyre said he has to join the lineage of NXT Champions to prove he is the best. He doesn’t care if he has to face Bobby Roode, Roderick Strong, or Dain, who is undefeated, all roads lead to his NXT Championship.

**********

We were reminded about Tommaso Ciampa betraying Johnny Gargano back at NXT TakeOver: Chicago, which led to the announcement that Gargano will make his first NXT appearance in two months next week.

**********

Kayla Braxton was at the Performance Center with the pouting Billie Kay and Peyton Royce. They felt disrespected because Kay did not have a birthday celebration and only Royce gave her a present.

Andrade “Cien” Almas was arguing with Thea Trinidad in the background. As the cameras ran up to them, Trinidad stormed off and Almas then left instead of answering questions.

**********

“Last week” Bianca Belair defeated Aliyah to qualify for the Mae Young Classic.

**********

They re-aired the Roode-Strong video package. On his way to the ring, Strong said the only thing on his mind was victory. Roode said Strong has been living a fairy tale the last six weeks, but now his fairy tale faces a reality that is glorious.

**********

NXT Champion Bobby Roode defeated Roderick Strong to retain his title

For those keeping track, Roode, in his quest to become the WWE Slow Walk Champion, took two minutes and ten seconds to walk all the way down the ramp and get in the ring. Strong’s mother and fiancee (Marina Shafir) were sitting at ringside and they cut to Shafir multiple times during the match.

Roode took Strong lightly for the first few minutes until he went to mock him with his “Glorious” pose, but Strong dropkicked his head clean off. Roode tried rolling out of the ring, but alas Strong followed him outside and beat him from pillar to post. Roode was finally able to catch a breather

Roode took over with a boot to the charging face of Strong and a blockbuster to slow the match down. They ended up outside the ring, with Roode knocking Strong off the steps and somehow catching his leg in between the steps and the post, injuring the knee of the challenger.

Strong desperately tried to fight to his feet after minutes of Roode working on his knees. He hit a big backbreaker across the bad knee for a two count, but Roode clipped his knee from behind. Strong would surge up and hit one big move, but Roode would knock him back down time and again.

Strong hit the gut check and Roode just barely kicked out before the referee’s hand hit three. Roode slammed Strong’s knee into the ring post, but he was still able to fight back. Strong dropped Roode on the top turnbuckle, but he rolled outside.

Roode finally hit a Glorious DDT, but Strong kicked out, which was the first time the fans made noise, as they got behind Strong. Roode mocked Shafir and told her to go, which led to Strong making a fiery comeback.

Strong’s knee connected with Roode’s jaw multiple times and he then hit his release suplex into a backbreaker, theoretically for a three count, but Roode got his foot under the ropes! Strong’s music played and he was announced as the new champion as he celebrated with his wife.

Finally the referee told him otherwise, but when he tried to roll into the ring, Roode knocked him off the apron and Strong collided with the barricades in front of Shafir. Roode went out and dropped Strong with a Glorious DDT on the floor and then one in the ring to retain the title.

So, that does it for this week. What will happen when Johnny Wrestling returns to NXT? There’s only one way to find out. Until next week, remember to say your vitamins and take your prayers.

– Velveteen Dream defeated HoHo Lun

Velveteen Dream used a flying elbow to get the victory.

Bourne was formerly known as Danielle Kamela and Hachey was Jayme Jameson. This was a quick match that Bourne won to advance to the Mae Young Classic.

– Hideo Itami defeated Oney Lorcan

The match that they were supposed to have earlier got re-taped here. Itami hit a GTS to win one of the best sprints in recent memory. It had great action, then Itami called out Kassius Ohno to talk after the match. Before they could, SAnitY destroyed them both.

– No Way Jose defeated Cezar Bononi

Jose got the victory with his pop-up knockout punch. Andrade “Cien” Almas and Thea Trinidad showed up at ringside, with Almas jumping Bononi and destroying him. He then pointed down Jose before bailing out of the ring.

– Ember Moon defeated Ruby Riot

The crowd was hot for this one, with them doing dueling chants early. Riot hit a top rope rana for a close near fall, but Moon ended up winning with The Eclipse. The crowd was into this one the whole time.

– SAnitY (Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain) defeated Hideo Itami & Kassius Ohno

SAnitY worked over Itami throughout. The story was that Ohno was out of position for the tag whenever Itami needed him, so Itami seemed weary of him. Dain hit a running crossbody splash on Itami for the finish. Ohno was frustrated as he looked down Itami after the match. They both then made their way to the back.

– Oney Lorcan defeated Danny Burch

Lorcan submitted Burch with a single-leg crab to win another physical match. Burch wanted a rematch in the future and Lorcan seemed to agree.

– NXT Champion Bobby Roode defeated Roderick Strong to retain his title

The crowd was hot for this one as well. Strong had the early advantage, including when they were fighting outside of the ring. Roode ended up cutting him off and started working over the knee viciously. Strong fired up and fought valiantly, even kicking out of the Glorious DDT.

Strong hit a double knee backbreaker for the visual pin, but Roode had his foot under the ropes so the match continued. Roode then retained after hitting his DDT in the middle. This was a match worthy of a TakeOver main event and it told a great story with Strong’s fiancee at ringside. Strong sat in the corner devastated by the loss.

– Aleister Black defeated Bobby Fish

Ring announcer Mike Rome announced Fish as making his NXT debut and he received a full entrance. The crowd was quiet early and were unsure how to react until Black hit Black Mass for the victory.

– NXT Tag Team Champions The Authors of Pain (w/ Paul Ellering) defeated Heavy Machinery to retain their titles

As expected, they had a physical match. The audience was behind Heavy Machinery with a “Steaks and Weights” chant, but the champions retained with their double team stand-up lariat.

SAnitY’s music hit after the match and they made their way to the ramp and had a staredown with AoP.

– Jeet Rama defeated Johnny Vandal

Rama won this one very quickly.

– Drew McIntyre defeated Killian Dain in a number one contender’s match

Dain had the advantage early. He wore his opponent down until McIntyre fired up and hit the Claymore Kick to win. He will now face Roode for the title in Brooklyn.

– NXT Women’s Champion Asuka defeated Nikki Cross in a last woman standing match to retain her title

This had all types of brutality, with suplexes on chairs, Asuka putting Cross in a trash can and kicking it in, and more. Cross hit Asuka with repeated swinging neckbreakers, though they both kept making the ten count and continuing. Asuka hit four German suplexes in a row and a spin kick, but Cross kept getting up.

The brawl went out of the ringside area and made its way to the production and commentary side. Asuka suplexed Cross off of a ladder and through the commentary table. The champion made the 10 count and retained her title.

Bobby Roode vs. Roderick Strong set for NXT TV tapings

Both of NXT’s top titles will be on the line at Friday night’s television tapings.

It was announced during this week’s episode of NXT TV that Bobby Roode would defend his title against Roderick Strong on Friday, with the match scheduled to air on the WWE Network on July 5th.

Roode and Strong have feuded since Roode retained his NXT Championship against Hideo Itami at TakeOver: Chicago. An angle where they got into a brawl after Roode taunted Strong and his family aired on last night’s show. Roode offered Strong a title shot at any time or place.

WWE is hyping that the July 5th show is the 400th episode of NXT.

It was previously announced that Asuka would defend her Women’s Championship against Nikki Cross in a last woman standing match at Friday’s tapings. That was set up when they went to a no contest in a triple threat elimination match after Ruby Riot had been eliminated. Their last woman standing match will air next Wednesday.

With nearly three months between TakeOver specials, this week’s tapings should move on from some TV angles and begin building others for TakeOver: Brooklyn. The Barclays Center will host that event on August 19th.

NXT Bel Air, MD, live results: Bobby Roode vs. Roderick Strong

Submitted by readers Steve Magnus and Liam Renner

– Heavy Machinery def. Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli

Crowd was hot for HM but not much else. Machinery hit their splash/slam for the pin and win.

– Ember Moon def. Nikki Cross

This was one of the more competitive bouts on the card and got a parody of “Let’s go Cena/Cena sucks” for the both of them as well. The ring announcer, despite her prominent Scottish flag, forgot Cross’ hometown. Ember hit her perfect stunner off the top for the pin.

– Aleister Black def. Velveteen Dream

Dream (Patrick Clark) is something of a local guy which put the crowd on his side. He cut a heel promo (the only promo on the entire card) mocking the Baltimore riots (which made little sense geographically) especially noting how much he loves CVS (one was burned to the ground infamously). Black won after hitting the spinning kick.

– NXT Tag Team Champions The Authors of Pain def. SAnitY (Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain) to retain

Classic AoP with big tag team moves throughout. They got their stuff in, hit the clothesline/leg sweep finish and got out. No Paul Ellering or Eric Young for this one.

– Drew McIntyre def. Andrade “Cien” Almas

This was a good, basic match. There was a spot where it looked like Drew was spinning Almas for a backbreaker or stomach buster, but lost his grip dropping Cien on his face hard. Crowd ate it up when Drew did the Cien pose. McIntyre hit his big kick for the pin and win.

– Kassius Ohno def. Cezar Bononi

Bononi had no entrance video and the acoustics were bad, so people weren’t sure who he was. This was a squash for Ohno who won with the spinning elbow smash.

– NXT Women’s Champion Asuka & Ruby Riot def. Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville

The announcer accidentally called Sonya the opponent of Mandy. Crowd was 100% into Asuka, with a “Asuka’s gonna kill you” chant and a “We want Asuka” soon thereafter. Asuka had only two segments in the match and worked almost exclusively with Sonya. She did a comedy bit with a fearful Mandy (who did get a pop at her entrance) who quickly tagged out after taking one behind to the face.

Ruby carried 75% of the action and did a huge double side hurricanrana/headlock takedown on both opponents. There was a bit of a botch when Rose tagged herself in when the ref was distracted with Asuka across the ring, forcing Sonya to go for a high five tag a moment later. They did a basic tag match before Ruby hot tagged Asuka. Asuka and Sonya traded head kicks and armbars. Eventually, Ruby hit her kick on Mandy and Asuka hit another kick on Sonya for the win

Post-match, Asuka angrily pulled Riot in close during a handshake.

– NXT Champion Bobby Roode def. Roderick Strong to retain

The crowd was desperate for some good action and this seemed to really deliver. There was a “let’s go Roddy — Bobby Roode” chant almost immediately. There were several big chops done by both men around the ring. They even repeated the circling chop spot on the floor for fans seated in different areas.

There were at least two major bumps taken. In one, Roddy was on the apron and Bobby from the floor yanked his feet out from under him, crashing his head on the apron. In another very odd spot, Strong did a backbreaker on the second rope dropping Roode onto the top turnbuckle causing him to fall onto the floor.  Roode did two heel spots first with the belt that the ref yanked away (Strong went for a roll-up) and another where he smashed a chair against the post (from the ring), missing wildly in the process.

Roode hit his DDT Bloody Sunday style, briefly posed, and only got a two count. There was a “This is awesome” chant afterward. Roode teased getting himself DQ’d, but while the ref was removing the chair from the ring, he low blowed Roddy using the ropes (kicked the middle rope while Roddy was stepping through) and hit a second DDT for the win.

Post-match, Roode attacked Strong and shoved the ref before Strong made a babyface comeback, launching Roode and dropping him onto his knees. Strong posed for a good bit with the title (oddly, the old version) before handing it back over to Bobby.

The arena was about 65% full and not sold out like last time. Show ran 2:45.

SAnitY won when Dain got the pin after a double team dropkick/body slam on Sabbatelli.

– Drew McIntyre defeated Velveteen Dream

There was a funny moment where the crowd was singing “Purple Rain” at Velveteen Dream and he was getting pissed. The match had a lot of comedy but it wasn’t bad. Velveteen Dream teased leaving and then tried to come back out until McIntyre caught him.

After the beginning comedy portion, it turned into a surprisingly impressive match, with McIntyre winning with a Future Shock DDT. The crowd was very hot for it.

– NXT Tag Team Champions The Authors of Pain defeated Heavy Machinery to retain their titles

– WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne & Wolfgang defeated Mark Andrews & Trent Seven

This was a good match. Dunne and Wolfgang were massively over, with the other two getting the crowd more into them as the match went on. Dunne played heel and Andrews did a lot of cool moves. Dunne eventually hit the Bitter End and pinned him.

After it was over, Dunne decided to get into it with his partner for some reason. Wolfgang then laid him out and held up the UK title, much to the crowd’s delight.

The heels got pretty good heat throughout this match. Strong carried most of it, then Black got in for the finish and won with Black Mass.

– Kassius Ohno defeated Andrade “Cien” Almas

The crowd was quiet for this, which might have been due to it not being easy to chant either of their names. They popped for the antics, but there was still something missing. It was a decent match, though. Ohno won with a forearm strike.

– William Regal came out for a short speech and thanked the crowd. He got a huge ovation.

– NXT Women’s Champion Asuka defeated Peyton Royce to retain her title

The reaction to this match was opposite to the last one. But Asuka retained after hitting a German suplex and submitting her with the chickenwing.

– NXT Tag Team Champions The Authors of Pain defeated SAnitY (Alexander Wolfe & Killian Dain) to retain their titles

The crowd was massively into Dain, who was formerly a star in ICW as Big Damo. AoP were getting the “What?” treatment in response to their constant trash talk.

SAnitY played face in this one. At one point, while the ref was distracted, Eric Young snuck into the ring and delivered a neckbreaker to one of the AoP. The crowd loved it. The champions retained suddenly with a lariat on Wolfe. Dain received the crowd’s adulation at the end.

– NXT Champion Bobby Roode defeated Drew McIntyre to retain his title

McIntyre was clearly the crowd favorite, with Roode getting good heel heat throughout. Roode played chicken early on until then taking control. McIntyre kicked out of the Glorious DDT and began making a comeback. There was an awesome near fall for him off of a Future Shock DDT. Roode got the referee tangled up and kicked McIntyre low to retain.

When it was over, Roode attacked McIntyre again. That got him big heat from the crowd. McIntyre fought back and cleared house. He then said he’s taking the NXT title, making sure to call it a World title.
