Taka Michinoku to challenge for indie title on rare US trip

Taka Michinoku will be working a title match in March when he makes a rare trip to the United States.

Last month, Michinoku — who spent years working in the U.S. when he wrestled for WWE in the late 1990s/early 2000s — put out a call saying he would be in Indiana on March 27-28 and wanted to wrestle. Black Label Pro has now announced that Michinoku will challenge Kevin Ku for the BLP Championship at their Squared Circle Expo VI event that weekend.

The show is being held at The Wyndham Indianapolis West on Friday, March 27 as part of the Squared Circle Expo fan convention. Others set to appear include Deonna Purrazzo, Gangrel, and Davey Boy Smith Jr.

Michinoku is a former WWF Light Heavyweight Champion and was a long-time member of the NJPW roster. He still wrestles occasional matches for NJPW but mostly competes for his Just Tap Out promotion in Japan.

“I’m going to Indianapolis on March 27th and 28th,” he wrote last month while putting out a call for bookings. “If I go all the way to US, I’d like to wrestle around that time. I went to England and Australia in the last few years, but it’s been seven years since I went to the U.S. Please make an offer to DM.”

Indie promotion Black Label Pro cancels events, going on hiatus

Indie promotion Black Label Pro has canceled all of its upcoming events and is going on hiatus.

Black Label Pro issued a statement on Tuesday informing fans of the news, noting that the hiatus is “for the time being.” All tickets that have been purchased are in the process of being refunded.

“Unfortunately we have decided to cancel Fancy Wrestling and the rest of the events upcoming,” the promotion announced. “We are going on a hiatus for the time being. All tickets have already been submitted for refunds. Thank you for all the support.”

“Mentally exhausted,” Black Label promoter Mikey Blanton tweeted. “Just need time to breathe.”

Fancy Wrestling was scheduled to take place in Crown Point, Indiana on Saturday, October 12 and was going to feature Black Label Pro Champion Raj Dhesi (the former Jinder Mahal) defending his title against Calvin Tankman.

Based out of the Midwest, Black Label Pro has existed since 2017. Their last show before going on hiatus was September’s Crowning Glory event from Chicago.

Mandy Rose announced for BLP DraftKings Wrestling Combine

Former WWE NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Sacs (FKA Mandy Rose) will make a rare wrestling-related appearance for Black Label Pro at Crowning Glory.

BLP announced Wednesday that Sacs will take part in the DraftKings Wrestling Combine at their Crowning Glory event set for Wednesday, September 4.

Sacs joins Ash by Elegance (FKA Dana Brooke), Mike Rallis (FKA Riddick Moss), Jordynne Grace, Parker Boudreaux, Xia Zhao (FKA Xia Li), and Moose as the talent announced for the Wrestling Combine.

The Combine will showcase four men and four women squaring off in a series of athletic contests to determine the best overall athlete.

BLP Crowning Glory will also feature an appearance from WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler, Mustafa Ali vs. Sabin Gauge, plus the former Jinder Mahal (Raj Dhesi) defending the BLP Championship against “Filthy” Tom Lawlor.

Sacs has not wrestled since leaving WWE in December 2022 after the company released her from her contract due to risqué content she posted to a subscription service. She has stated that she would need to receive “the right call” to get back in the ring.
