DragonKing Dark: Uncontacted Peoples

Today’s show is focused on a great topic suggestion from one of our patrons — The moral and ethical questions of contacting uncontacted peoples. While extremely rare, there are groups of people who have lived very isolated lives away from modern society. What are the ethical and moral questions about what should happen if and when these people are encountered?

It’s a more difficult question than you might suspect, and who are these people anyway?

DragonKing Dark: Divided We Fall

After last week’s show talking about the fear in the world we live in we received some feedback we would like to share before moving on to a new topic next week. Again, one of our more popular shows, has generated some food for thought and this week, on DragonKing Dark, it’s Fear Part II — Divided We Fall.

On today’s show:

  • A listener writes in reflecting back to our earlier show on the media and gives his thoughts.
  • The question is raised, “What’s really going on in our society and is there actually a malicious intent behind it?”
  • Are things really as divisive as they appear or is it all a ploy to some other means?

DragonKing Dark: The Church of Satan

Host Karl Stern continues his Satanic Panic series with this penultimate episode detailing the group that got the blame for the Satanic Panic in the 1980s — the Church of Satan, of course!

DragonKing Dark 44: The White Thang

On the 44th DKD, your host Karl Stern tells another tale from the isolated forest of north Alabama.  This time, it’s the “White Thang” from the 1930s.

But, what was the White Thang? No one knows for sure but the descriptions are bizarre. Part lion? Albino Bigfoot? Who knows? Framed around a tale of post-Civil War Alabama where Winston County refused to participate and oppression followed.

Then, Karl takes a look at other Alabama monsters, big cats, and giant apes, and the Wolf Woman of Mobile.

DragonKing Dark: Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The countdown to Halloween continues on the DragonKing Dark show with host Karl Stern.

On this episode of the show, Karl takes some questions from the mailbag, including more horror movie suggestions. Karl also talks about his latest haunted house attraction visit, this time in Tennessee with the Doomsday Haunted Trail walk.

Karl then revisits one of the all time classic horror movies, and a movie with just one single jump scare, the frightening Texas Chainsaw Massacre from 1974. This movie captures fear and horror with surprisingly little in the way of actual on-screen gore and startling cheap heat jump scares.

DragonKing Dark: Encountering the unknown

Host Karl Stern is battling a flu of epic proportions this week, so he answers a few emails from the mailbag. Karl answers a very interesting inquiry about the definition of life, then digs into his audio archives for a show he did several years ago about encountering the unknown and a few brushes with the unexplained.

Even with no voice and forced to record far away from home, Karl tries to grasp victory from the jaws of defeat and hopefully doesn’t get bitten.

DragonKing Dark Episode 27: The Bloody Benders

Recently, a listener to DragonKing Dark suggested the Bender family murders as a topic. Host Karl Stern, knowing nothing about the topic, began researching the story or the mysterious Kansas family.

Then Karl received multiple emails with information about the serial killer family from Kansas in the 1800’s. Once he read it had ties to LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE then he knew it must be a topic for DragonKing Dark!

This week’s episode  deals with a family who killed upwards of 20 or more people and then disappeared, in a sparsely populated area of Kansas ominously called by their last name, the bloody Benders.
