AEW Dynamite viewership down, 18-49 demo rating up

Wednesday night’s Homecoming episode of AEW Dynamite averaged 797,000 viewers on TBS, down 0.5 percent from last week. It’s the second-lowest audience total for the show since October 25.

Dynamite drew a 0.29 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s up 11.5 percent from last week and ties the third-highest rating the show has done since the October 18 episode.

Once again, Dynamite opened very strong with over a million viewers in the opening quarter but by the end of the show had dropped to 636,000 for the main event featuring Sting & Darby Allin vs. Konosuke Takeshita & Powerhouse Hobbs. The 18-49 rating started at 0.33 and fell to 0.21 by the last quarter, although the five-minute overrun was up from the final quarter in both overall audience and 18-49.

As compared to the same week in 2023, Dynamite’s overall viewership was down 17.6 percent while its 18-49 rating was down 12.1 percent.

AEW Dynamite ratings down for Worlds End fallout episode

Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite averaged 801,000 viewers on TBS, down five percent from last week. It’s the second-lowest audience total for the show since October 25.

Dynamite drew a 0.26 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s down 16.1 percent from last week and ties the third-lowest rating the show has done on a Wednesday night over the last three years.

As compared to the same week in 2023, Dynamite was down 7.3 percent in overall viewers but steady in the 18-49 demo.

The show opened very strong coming off last Saturday’s Worlds End pay-per-view. Dynamite had more than one million viewers for the first quarter hour but dropped below the 800,000 mark by quarter four and never went back above that. The final quarter, before the overrun, was down to 690,000 viewers, so the show had lost 35 percent of the audience it opened with by that point.

Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, which featured the league finals of the Continental Classic, averaged 843,000 viewers on TBS. That’s up 7.8 percent from last week and is Dynamite’s fourth-highest audience total since September 27.

Dynamite drew a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demo, up 19.2 percent from last week. It ties the show’s best rating in that category since September 20.

As compared to the same week in 2022, Dynamite was down 3.8 percent in overall viewers but up 10.7 percent in 18-49. It’s just the eighth time in 2023 that the show has been up year-over-year in the key demo and only the third time that the increase was more than 10 percent.

For the month of December, Dynamite averaged 823,250 viewers and a 0.28 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s down from the 905,750 viewers and 0.30 rating the show averaged in December 2022.

Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite averaged 858,000 viewers on TNT, up 1.5 percent from last week. It’s the largest viewership total for the show since October 18, which was the last Wednesday before Dynamite started going head-to-head with the NBA each week.

Dynamite drew a 0.29 rating in the 18-49 demo, up 11.5 percent from last week. That’s also the show’s best rating since the start of NBA season.

As compared to the same week in 2022, Dynamite’s overall audience was down 1.4 percent but the 18-49 rating was up 11.5 percent, which shows the audience is skewing much younger this year. 

For the month of November, Dynamite averaged 832,400 viewers and a 0.276 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s down from the 881,800 viewers and 0.294 rating the show averaged in November 2022.

Last Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite averaged 845,000 viewers on TBS, up 2.7 percent from the previous week. It’s the second-highest audience total for the show since September 27.

Dynamite drew a 0.26 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s down 7.1 percent from a week earlier and ties the third-lowest rating Dynamite has done in the demo all year.

This was the Thanksgiving Eve edition of Dynamite, typically a down night for viewership. The show did have the advantage of being the Full Gear fallout episode as well as the start of AEW’s Continental Classic tournament.

As compared to the same week in 2022, Dynamite’s overall audience was down four percent while its 18-49 rating was down 18.8 percent.

Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite averaged 832,000 viewers on TBS, up 7.5 percent from last week. It’s the second-highest audience total for the show since September 27. 

Dynamite drew a 0.28 rating in the 18-49 demo, up 16.7 percent from last week. The show went head-to-head with the deciding game of the World Series, which averaged nearly 11.5 million viewers and topped all of television with a 2.32 rating in 18-49.

Dynamite also ranked behind two NBA games on ESPN on the cable sports charts.

As compared to the same week in 2022, Dynamite was down 8.7 percent in overall viewers and down 3.5 percent in 18-49. Those decreases are actually lower than the loss in cable homes over that time period, so the year-over-year numbers are better than they have been most of the year.

AEW Dynamite draws lowest ratings of 2023 in regular time slot

Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite averaged 774,000 viewers on TBS, down 14.1 percent from last week. It’s the lowest audience total for a Wednesday night airing of the show since June 15, 2022.

Dynamite drew a 0.24 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s down 22.6 percent from last week. It’s tied for Dynamite’s lowest rating of 2023 and also matches the lowest rating the show has done in that category on its regular night since June 24, 2020.

Dynamite went head-to-head with the NBA for the first time since June, and NBA competition has typically had a negative effect on ratings for AEW. Dynamite finished sixth on the cable sports charts for the day. Every program that beat it was either NBA games or basketball-related programming.

This week, Dynamite had lower viewership than WWE NXT’s Halloween Havoc night one (774,000 viewers to NXT’s 787,000). Dynamite did have a higher rating in the 18-49 demo (0.24 to NXT’s 0.21).

Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite averaged 901,000 viewers on TBS, up 48 percent from last week. Last week’s Dynamite was moved to Tuesday due to MLB playoff coverage on TBS.

The viewership is up 12.6 percent from two weeks ago when Dynamite last aired in its regular time slot. This is the show’s second-largest audience total since July 19.

Dynamite drew a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demo, up 19.2 percent from last week and up 10.7 percent from two weeks ago. This matches the highest rating Dynamite has done in the demo since August 19.

On the cable sports charts, Dynamite only trailed an MLB American League Championship Series game on FS1 and the pre-game show on the same network.

A key note is that Dynamite was moved to Tuesday during this week last year and went against much stronger competition. It was head-to-head with NXT, the MLB playoffs, and NBA opening night. Still, this is the highest year-over-year increase Dynamite has done in exactly one year.

WWE NXT beats AEW Dynamite in Tuesday night ratings war

With the shows going head-to-head, WWE NXT picked up a ratings victory over AEW Dynamite on Tuesday night.

NXT averaged 921,000 viewers on the USA Network, up 7.5 percent from last week. It’s the largest audience total for the show since September 25, 2019, which was the second week that NXT aired on USA Network.

Dynamite averaged 609,000 viewers on TBS. That’s down 23.9 percent from last week and is the lowest viewership total the show has done since June 18, 2021. That episode was moved to Saturday due to NBA playoff coverage. This is the lowest viewership Dynamite has ever done when airing head-to-head against NXT. 

NXT drew a 0.30 rating in the 18-49 demo, up 36.4 percent from last week. It’s the fourth-highest rating in the history of the show, trailing only the first three weeks that NXT aired on USA.

Dynamite did a 0.26 rating in 18-49. That’s down 7.1 percent from last week and is the lowest rating the show has done since June 28.

NXT featured a loaded-up lineup with appearances by John Cena, Paul Heyman, Cody Rhodes, Asuka, and The Undertaker. Dynamite, which aired on a different night than usual due to the MLB playoffs, was a Title Tuesday edition of the show. Adam Copeland made his AEW in-ring debut on Dynamite, defeating Luchasaurus.

As compared to the same week in 2022, NXT was up 25 percent in overall viewers and up 100 percent in 18-49. Dynamite was down 38.1 percent in overall viewers and down 18.8 percent in 18-49.

Comparing to one week last year when both shows aired head-to-head on Tuesday night, NXT was up 36.2 percent overall and up 66.7 percent in 18-49. Dynamite was down 19 percent in overall viewers but steady in 18-49.

Wednesday night’s anniversary episode of AEW Dynamite averaged 800,000 viewers on TBS, down 6.4 percent from last week. It’s Dynamite’s lowest audience total since May 3 and is the show’s second-lowest viewership of 2023.

Dynamite drew a 0.28 rating in the 18-49 demo. That was sixth on cable in terms of sports programming with MLB Wild Card playoff games and related programming taking all of the spots above it. Dynamite’s rating was steady with last week, which matches the show’s lowest number since June.

Dynamite’s viewership trailed what NXT averaged the previous night (857,000 viewers), which has not happened since July 2020 when the shows still aired against each other on Wednesdays. Dynamite did beat NXT in the 18-49 demo (0.28 rating to 0.22)

Due to a scheduling conflict with the MLB playoffs, Dynamite will air on Tuesday night next week and will go head-to-head with NXT.

Dynamite faced heavy competition in the form of Wednesday night’s Republican presidential debate.

A year ago at this time, there was a lot of curiosity surrounding Brawl Out, which resulted in one of the best ratings runs in the show’s history with six out of seven weeks averaging over one million viewers.

Dynamite also beat network TV programming on ABC in 18-49 for both hours. The second hour of Dynamite beat both CBS and NBC but trailed Fox.
