John Silver challenging for AEW International title at Battle of the Belts VIII

John Silver is set to challenge Orange Cassidy for the AEW International Championship. 

Silver defeated Brother Zay & Kip Sabian in a triple threat match on Friday’s Rampage episode to earn a shot at Cassidy’s International title on the Saturday, October 21 Battle of the Belts VIII special. 

Sabian had Zay pinned in the Rampage contest, but Silver punted Sabian and stole the victory and the title shot. 

Cassidy vs. Silver will be a rematch from the Full Gear 2020 pay-per-view in a match won by Cassidy. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer gave that Full Gear bout a ***1/2 rating.

Three title bouts are official for Battle of the Belts VIII, airing immediately following Collision on TNT at 10 p.m. Eastern time. 

The TBS title will be on the line Saturday as Kris Statlander defends against Willow Nightingale, plus the World Trios titles will also be up for grabs.

Two title matches added to AEW Battle of the Belts VIII

A TBS Championship match and an International Championship bout have been added to the card for AEW Battle of the Belts VIII. 

TBS Champion Kris Statlander will defend her title against Willow Nightingale on the Saturday, October 21 special airing on TNT. Statlander defeated Skye Blue in a title defense on last week’s Collision, with Nightingale coming to the ring for a faceoff with the champion after the contest. 

Also added to Saturday’s lineup, International Champion Orange Cassidy will defend his title against the winner of a triple threat match on this Friday’s Rampage episode. Cassidy will take on the winner of a John Silver vs. Kip Sabian vs. Brother Zay three-way. 

Already announced for Battle of the Belts VIII is a World Trios Championship defense with The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn defending their titles against Daniel Garcia, Matt Menard, & Angelo Parker. 

Battle of the Belts VIII airs Saturday, October 21 at 10 p.m. Eastern time on TNT immediately following AEW Collision.

Trios title match announced for AEW Battle of the Belts VIII

A Trios title match is now set for next week’s Battle of the Belts VIII.

The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass will put up the titles next Saturday against Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, and Daniel Garcia. The two teams confronted one another on Saturday’s Collision.

On Saturday, Daddy Ass and Anthony Bowens offered to give Max Caster advice regarding personal relationships, as they noted that his people skills weren’t that good. After a wrong line by Caster got Renee Paquette upset, Menard, Parker, and Garcia came in and challenged for the Trios titles.

Menard, Parker, and Garcia have teasing showing dissension as of late. Parker and Menard were upset at Garcia after he showed concern for Chris Jericho, who was defeated quickly by Powerhouse Hobbs back at AEW Dynamite Title Tuesday. All three are former members of the Jericho Appreciation Society.

The latest Battle of the Belts will air next Saturday immediately following AEW Collision. Here is the updated card:

Date and start time revealed for AEW Battle of the Belts VIII

The date and time for AEW Battle of the Belts VIII has been revealed. 

The TNT schedule has the show airing on Saturday, October 21 beginning at 10 p.m. Eastern time immediately following Collision, confirming an earlier report by PWInsider.

AEW Collision will air live from the FedEx Forum in Memphis on October 21. Advertising for the show does not currently state Battle of the Belts will also take place that night. 

This will be the fourth Battle of the Belt event to take place in 2023. The last event took place on July 15 from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. It took place the same night as the Owen Hart Cup finals. The show saw Luchasaurus successfully defend the TNT Championship against Shawn Spears, Orange Cassidy defend the International title against Lance Archer, and Toni Storm defend the AEW Women’s World Championship against Taya Valkyrie, although broadcasting trouble prevented the final moments of that match from airing.
