WWE NXT house show report 9-18 Austin, TX

By Travis Banks
I attended the first ever NXT house show in Austin earlier this evening. The event was held in the Austin Music Hall, which hosted a TNA house show in 2011. The venue will be torn down at the end of the year, so NXT will be one of the final shows to hit Austin Music Hall. First up was the VIP Meet and Greet. Basically you were given two ticket options when they went on sale: $100 guaranteed seats with a superstar meet and greet, or $75 General Admission. The VIP was literally just an autograph and picture opportunity with Bull Dempsey. Not exactly worth the extra cash. That being said, Bull was AWESOME, as he took the time to interact with every fan and seemed happy to be there.  – Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady def. Blake & Murphy (with Alexa Bliss) and Jordan & Gable. Cass comes out in a huge cowboy hat while he and Enzo do their intro. Gable was also a huge hit with the crowd. Post match, the Dubstep Cowboys and Alexa stare down Enzo and Cass. – Apollo Crews def. Tye Dillinger. Crowd chanted “Uhaa” to start but was chanting “Apollo” by the end – Bull Dempsey def. Solomon Crowe –  NXT Women’s Title Match: Bayley def. Dana Brooke with the Belly to Bayley. Afterwards, Bayley poses for pictures with kids at ringside, letting them hold the title. – Intermission. Only NXT merch is sold at the stand, including the awesome NXT Texas shirt. Pricey at $30 but cool. – Dusty Rhodes Memorial Tag Tournament: Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson def. NXT Tag Champs The Vaudevillains in a shocking non-title upset. The Vaudevillains try to shake hands after the match but Dawson and Wilder refused, cheap shot the champs and ran away. This was taped and should air on NXT TV at some point. – Emma def. Carmella via submission – Samoa Joe def. Tyler Breeze with the Coquina Clutch. Crowd chants “This is Awesome” before the bell even rings… good match somewhat ruined by stupid crowd chants. Really the only time throughout the night the crowd acted too “smarky.” Counting TNA house shows, Joe wins his first match in Austin, going 0-3 in TNA house shows in the city. – Main Event, NXT Title: Finn Balor def. Baron Corbin with the Coup des Gras. Finn came out in a plain black leather jacket and was assaulted by Corbin before the bell. Fun match. They botched a DDT at one point but covered nicely by rolling out of the ring while some people try to start a “You Fucked Up” chant but fail. Afterwards, Finn grabs the mic and says he’ll return to Austin. End of show. Most of the wrestlers signed autographs and took pictures outside as they were leaving. Overall, one of the best WWE live events I’ve attended. Everyone was having a blast and the wrestlers were all excited to be there.

WWE house show report 9-18 Montreal: Reigns & Ambrose vs. Wyatt & Harper; Owens vs. Cesaro; Patterson appears

By Pat Laprade

WWE house show at the Bell Center in Montreal.  Neville beat Stardust with a 450 splash.  Good match and good reaction to Neville.  Team PCB b Team Bad with Natalya as guest referee.  PCB got a better babyface reaction than Neville. Charlotte pin Tamina with the natural selection.  After the match, Banks complained that it was a fast count, Tamina attacked Natalya from behind. Three on one until Natalya did a comeback and the heels took the powder. Nice pop for Natalya. Good match with Charlotte being the most over.  Dolph Ziggler beat Rusev w/Summer Rae Ziggler got a huge reaction coming to the ring with a Montreal Canadiens jersey with number 69 on the back (clever). Best match on the card so far. A lot, and I mean a lot of near falls. Two “This is awesome” chants. These chants used to mean something. And don’t get me wrong. It’s a good match live. But not awesome. Summer attacked Ziggler with one of her high heel shoes, referee saw it and she got kicked out. Ziggler won with the Zig Zag.  New Day beat Dudley Boyz and Prime Time Players when Kofi pin Buh Buh with a small package. After the match, the Dudleys put Woods through a table. Dudleys had the new best pop of the night, which is going to be Owens at the end of the day anyway.  Ryback beat Seth Rollins by DQ when Rollins used a chair outside the ring. Until then the match was good but the finish felt flat. After the match, Rollins cut a promo saying he’s the best. He went to attack Ryback with a chair but Ryback ducked and hit the Shell Shocked on Rollins.  Intermission R-Truth beat The Miz. The Miz spoke in French saying he hated poutine, the Montreal Canadiens and said he was magnificent. They had a dance off and Truth won with the Lie Detector. Very short match.  Pat Patterson came to the ring and acted as the ring announcer, instead of Jojo, for the following match, between Cesaro and Kevin Owens.  Why is Owens in the semi-main instead of the main-event with one match left is mind boggling. If Rollins and Ryback was the main-event I’d understand. But I can’t say I can now. Owens was the babyface here and Cesaro the heel.  Owens won with the pop up power bomb. Maybe not better than Ziggler and Rusev but as good for sure. Owens took the mic and in French thanked everyone, said that it meant the world to him to wrestle in front of his wife and parents at home and that this Sunday, he would continue the bloodline of Quebecers having success in WWE by winning the IC title against Ryback.  Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose beat Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper The lights went off and Braun Stowman was in the ring. After putting Reigns to sleep, Ambrose took the upper hand and Reigns woke up and superman punched Harper. Wyatt went for the Sister Abigail but Ambrose reversed it and applied the Dirty Deeds for the win. The Kevin Owens’ t-shirt with the Montreal Canadiens colours and KO logo sold like hot cakes. By intermission there were no larges and XLs left. Also, even if he’s not on the card, they were selling “Suplex City Montreal” t-shirts.  Best matchTie between Ziggler vs Rusev and Owens vs Cesaro Biggest popOwensDudley BoyzTie between Ziggler and PCB Biggest heatThe MizRusevCesaro  Rollins, New Day and the Wyatts (during their entrance) were heels but liked by the crowd.

TNA house show report 9-17 York, PA

By Joshua Sites

I was at the TNA house show tonight at the York Fairgrounds in York, PA.

Results:

Tyrus b. DJZ by pinfall in a nothing match. Nobody knew Tyrus by his TNA name. Everyone was yelling Brodus and Funkasaurus.

The Wolves b. Abyss/Manik by pinfall in a decent match. Wolves were kind of over.

Gail Kim b. Awesome Kong by pinfall. Kong doesn’t look like she’s moving around too well. After the match, she went into the empty ringside seats and started throwing chairs like she was in Japan. Except there probably would have been people in the seats in Japan.

Tommy Dreamer b. Eli Drake by pinfall. Dreamer came out to his old ECW music and he got the biggest pop of the night for anyone not named Hardy. Nobody knew who Drake was. They brawled in the crowd and Dreamer had little kids slap Drake and dump popcorn on him.

Bobby Roode b. Mr. Anderson and Drew Galloway in a 3-way. I believe Roode pinned Anderson. This was the best match of the night. Roode and Galloway came across as big stars and deserve much more than this. Anderson held his own in the match too. This was the 4th match of the night that featured nut shots by the way. Gotta go for the easy heat.

EC3 w/Tyrus & Jeff Hardy b. Matt Hardy by pinfall. EC3 and Jeff Hardy played up the personal assistant thing with EC3 telling Jeff not to do something and he did it anyway. Jeff started “EC3 sucks” chants, etc. EC3 pinned Matt via inside cradle after a Tyrus distraction and Jeff hitting Tyrus on the back with a chair. Then the Hardys put EC3 through a table via a Matt splash off the top rope to send the crowd home happy. The only thing physical Jeff did was the chairshot and a few punches.

Thanks,

Joshua Sites

WWE: 9-17 NXT house show in Houston

by Scott Williams

 1. Enzo & Big Cass vs Chad Gable & Jordan. The ring isn’t lit for shit. Enzo pinned Gable after a rocket launcher.

2. Bull Dempsey pinned Tye Dillinger with a flying teabag. Comedy match.

3. Apollo Crews beat Solomon Crowe. Crews did some nice spots.

4. Samoa Joe vs Baron Corbin. “Joe’s gonna kill you” chant to start. Lackluster offense by Corbin. Joe won by KO/submission with the clutch.

Intermission

5. Dana Brooke pinned Carmela. Not good. Was wishing the ring was even more poorly lit.

6. Tag title: Vaudevillains beat Blake & Murphy. Best match so far. Vaudevillains are fantastic.

7. NXT women’s: Bayley beat Emna. Bayley got THE pop of the night. Seeing her live, her charisma and ability to connect with fans is practically palpable.

8. Main, NXT title: Finn Balor beat Tyler Breeze. Good back and forth, with NXT & the overused Awesome chants late in the bout. After, Balor took selfies with Breeze’s phone.

Lighting got better later in the show. Overall, a fun event, definitely a thumbs up.

WWE 9/13 Jonesboro, AR, house show results: Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose

Submitted by Adam Kirby

WWE ran a pretty decent show in Jonesboro, AR tonight. Crowd not as large as the last time I came to town for a show back in 2012 for Punk v Ryback.

R-Truth over Bo Dallas

Truth won after countering a sunset flip reversal.

Curtis Axel and Damien Sandow over the Ascension

Axel hit the facebuster Viktor for the win By far the worst efforts I’ve ever seen from the face team. Big bummer when Axel hit what must be the worst dropkick in his career. Goofy match.

Natalya over Alicia Foxx

Long heat segment, Natalya never getting more than one offensive move in before getting cut off. Easily best match so far.

WWE Champion/U.S. Champion Seth Rollins over Dean Ambrose

Rollins won after hitting an exposed turnbuckle shot and a Pedigree. Great match, tons of moves, sick Falcon Arrow, Rollins argues with the crowd and a child in the front row over whether or not he’s a sissy.

WWE Tag Team Champions New Day Big E and Xavier Woods over the Primetime Players

New Day won after Xavier Woods hits Titus O’Neil with a DDT and a big second rope legdrop. New Day were hilarious as always. Xavier Woods wore Big E’s singlet after claiming the airline lost his luggage. He adopted some of E’s moveset including a nice belly to belly, an attempt at the running splash, and the body block. Referred to himself as Big Woods.

Cesaro over Kevin Owens

Cesaro won after reversing a popup powerbomb into a hurricanrana. Smart match, not too crazy as to overshadow the main, but a back and forth with big moves and Owens preventing Cesaro from ever hitting the big swing.

Roman Reigns over Bray Wyatt in a streetfight

Lots of big shots back and forth at the beginning. Both guys were over and definitely brought a different feel to the main event. Bray Wyatt worked over Reigns with kendo stick shots and throwing a chair at his head. Hits a Uranage through a table, loses control to a series of Reigns punches and slaps before taking a powerbomb through a table. Luke Harper breaks up the pin, hits a big superkick, only to eat superman punches to the glee of the crowd.

Lights out, Braun Strowman appears and chokes out Reigns until chants for Ambrose lead to the save and comeback. Reigns throws Wyatt headfirst through a chair in the corner and follows up with a Spear while someone near by freaks out and screams “DESTROOOY HIMMMM.” Big spectacle match sends the crowd home happy.

WWE 9/13 Tupelo, MS, house show results: Randy Orton vs. Sheamus

Submitted by Chris Dempsey

Dolph Ziggler def. Rusev

Really strong opener, good back and forth match. Summer Rae was ejected at one point after hitting Dolph with her shoe and then Ziggler hit the Zig Zag for the win.

Neville def. Adam Rose

Neville won with the 450 Splash

Jimmy Uso def. Heath Slater

Slater started off the match yelling at Jimmy about how he’s nothing but an announcer now and that he wants a dance contest. Heath dances to “I’m Too Sexy” to huge boos which leads to Jimmy dancing to “Watch Me Whip” and even Ref Chad Patton got in on the fun. Jimmy Superkicks Slater for the win. Slater then says he wants another opponent which leads to…

Jack Swagger def. Heath Slater

Swagger won with the Ankle Lock. Once again Slater wants another opponent so then we have…

Mark Henry def. Heath Slater

Henry won with the World’s Strongest Slam.

I-C Champion Ryback def. The Big Show by DQ

Team PCB def. Team BAD

Charlotte hit Natural Selection on Tamina

The Dudley Boyz def. Los Matadores and the Lucha Dragons

Dudleys won with a 3D on a Matador. After the match, the Matadores were distracted by “Bad to the Bone” when El Torito came out and beat up on the Matadores. That led to Bubba putting a Matador through a table.

Randy Orton def. Sheamus

Orton won after hitting the RKO

ROH 9/12 Chicago house show results: Young Bucks vs. Future Shock, NJPW show announcement

Submitted by Case Lowe

Mike Bennett & Matt Taven def. Curt Stallion & Brad Kevins

The Kingdom took one of them out with a Spike Piledriver to the floor before pinning the other one with another Spike Piledriver, this one in the ring.

Dalton Castle def. Beer City Bruiser with a Bridging German Suplex

Crowd was really invested in Castle. Lots of interference from Silas Young and The Boys on the outside.

Michael Elgin def. Watanabe

This felt like a G1 match. The crowd wasn’t into this until Elgin hit his Top Rope Falcon Arrow towards the finish. They reacted to his power spots much more than his strikes. Crazy match. Both guys kicked out of stuff at one. Watanabe looked good and Elgin looked great.

BJ Whitmer, who was out on commentary, told the crowd that Adam Page was hurt and couldn’t wrestle. It took him almost five minutes to get this out. The crowd kept chanting “Shut up BJ” and “BJ Sucks”, much like fans chant “New Day Sucks”. Page came out and brawled with Mark Briscoe before Jay made the save. The Decade bailed and out came Romantic Touch. The Briscoes put him through a table.

Bobby Fish def. Roderick Strong

Excellent match. Lots of smart limb work.

– Intermission

Silas Young def. Cheeseburger, Will Ferrera, and Samson Walker

The crowd loved Cheeseburger.

Jay Briscoe def. Cedric Alexander

Briscoe hit a Roaring Elbow. Very good. Briscoe has the best punches in wrestling. Alexander attacked Stokely Hathaway after the match, leading to Moose making the save. As Moose was on his way to the back, Jay Lethal attacked him.

ACH def. Matt Sydal with a 450 Splash to tie up the Best of 5 series at 1-1

Both guys worked super hard and delivered a really solid match.

ROH Champion/TV Champion Jay Lethal def. Moose

Moose, coming in less than 100%, lost after getting hit with Lethal Injection. The whole match was worked around Moose’s head and him not being able to compete at full strength. Lethal has become an excellent heel.

– Kevin Kelly announced that ROH and New Japan will host a show in Chicago Ridge in May 2016.

Young Bucks def. Future Shock (Adam Cole/Kyle O’Reilly)

Bucks won after a Meltzer Driver. Crazy match. Lots of Superkicks, obviously. Young Bucks were the most over act on the show.

Young Bucks, Futureshock, and Bobby Fish sent the fans home happy after superkicking The Kingdom. It appears Cole has officially turned. Tremendous show from ROH,

WWE 9/12 Huntsville, AL, house show results: Randy Orton vs. Sheamus, Dudleys in a three-way

By Mario Whitman

I live in Huntsville Alabama here are the reports

Match 1 Dolph Ziggler vs Rusev w/ Summer Rae good fast pace match Rusev is huge in person and can move for a man his size. Summer Rae hit Dolph with her shoe and she was sent back to the dressing room which ended up with rusev with his back turned and Dolph hit his finisher awesome opening match.
By the way Summer Rae looked awesome and smelled really good lol!

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

Match 2 all in 1 match Health slater vs jimmy Uso they had a dance contest which sent the crowd in to ultimate dance mode the crowd was hot from this through the whole show Jimmy won the dance off and the he super kicked health for the win.
Winner Jimmy Uso

Then health said its not over send me somebody else to fight so jack swagger came in and beat him with a all American duplex

Winner: Jack Swagger

Then health said not in a million years no one can do that 3 times in a row so out comes mark Henry. Looks at him and gives him the hall of pain slam

Winner: Mark Henry

Match 3 Neville vs Adam rose Good match Neville was hot all through the match with the flips and they look awesome in person great match Adam rose changed his entire gimmick I think this works for him well he reminds me of a old Shane Douglas good match should be on tv
Neville did a basic flip for he win no red arrow

Winner: Neville

Match 4 Ryback vs Big Show for the IC title it was a good match a lot of big show slaps and ryback feed me more chants good back and forth match was not boring at all but ryback retains after big show used a chair for the DQ

Winner by DQ Ryback

Intermission 6 minutes

Divas action

Match 5 Naomi was at ringside giving it to the fans. Sasha banks Tamina vs Becky lynch and Charlotte awesome match Becky is definetly coming along tons of energy and really gets involved with the crowd Tamina was getting worked big time these girls are in there twenties and they where running circles around her but anyways Charlotte hit her figure four and it was over

Winner: Charlotte and Becky Lynch

Match 6 The Dudleys vs Lucha Dragons vs Los Matadors Awesome match a lot of high risk maneuvers that cover the ring as well as my personal favorite get the tables chant the Dudleys where way over just he Lucha Dragons. Kalisto hit a flip on primo for the win After the match Los Matadors picked on the bull pushing him around until the The dudleys put epico through the tables and the crowd went crazy

Winner: The Lucha Dragons

Main Event

Randy Orton vs Sheamus typical back and forth  between them until Randy hit the RKO out of nowhere decent match that could have been on raw but it was good the crowd went home happy randy went around to everyone and tag hands and thanked everyone.

Winner: Randy Orton

Submitted by Matthew Hardaway

Triple H had a promo on the videoscope pretending he was in Huntsville. Total babyface stuff.

Dolph Ziggler vs Rusev w/ Summer Rae

Rusev and Summer had the Bulgarian flag with Rusev’s face superimposed on it. Please tell Bryan that Ziggler slowed down on his ten punches in the corner. Teased count out early. Fun opener. Had all the spots to get the crowd into it. Near falls and double KOs and all. Rusev was practically weeping at USA chants. Summer was ejected for hitting Dolph WITH HER STILETTO HEEL and then Dolph hit the Zig Zag for the win. I have to admit, as an old school WCW fan, I marked out for the high heel gimmick.

Neville vs Adam Rose

No music for Rose. He was wearing short tights and cut a promo about pooping on our parties since we pooped on his. Neville won with a 450 instead of the spinning shooting star press so to hell with him I guess.

They did a trivia game advertising the network. What popped out of the box after the Macho Man married Miss Elizabeth? It was a snake.

Heath Slater vs Jimmy Uso

Slater is pretty good at being a sleazy heel. He cut a promo one minute into the match about how great he was and how Jimmy went from being a “great competitor” to an announcer. Then he challenged him to a dance off. They hit “I’M TOO SEXY” by RIGHT SAID FRED for Heath. Then Jimmy DID THE NAE NAE. THEN MIKE CHIODA DID THE NAE NAE DANCE WITH HIM. It was beyond great and drew a gigantic pop. So of course it was nothing close to their TV. Uso hit a super kick immediately for the win. Slater eventually challenged anyone else and Jack Swagger came out and tapped him to an ankle lock after a few amateur throws. Then Slater challenged anyone else to come out. Mark Henry came out and slammed him immediately for the win even after Slater told him he would usually make an example of him. Way too enjoyable for a house show.

They aired a Daniel Bryan promo for Connor’s Cure.

WWE I-C Champion Ryback vs. Big Show

These are some BIG GUYS as Larry Z might say. “Feed me less,” the Big Show says to us while patting his belly. They did the old championship match intros with both guys in the ring. Show worked so hard. He even took the Flair press slam of the turnbuckle. Ryback won by dq when Show used a chair to the ribs. Ryback did a meat hook to send us to intermission happy.

Jojo and a guy named Greg advertised autographed pictures.

Intermission

Tamina and and Sasha Banks w/ Naomi vs Becky and Charlotte

Charlotte won.

Lucha Dragons vs El Matadores vs The Dudley Boyz

Bubba helped the Dragons with a move that lead to a two count. Come on. Lots of weird double teams. Nothing too spectacular but kinda smart as it pertains to bumps. Pretty fun three way. El Torito ran out with “Bad to the Bone” playing to lead to a 3D and win. Then the Dragons helped them put a Matador through a table. Fun stuff.

They showed an awesome package advertising Sting vs Rollins built around Sting’s old title wins. They should shown it on TV but I bet they won’t.

Sheamus vs Randy Orton

Usual chants towards Sheamus. He worked the t-shirt throwing gimmick like a pro. They put the lights down for atmosphere. First time they’ve did that here for a house show. RKO tease immediately. Great match for a house show. Sheamus took a great bump into the steps before he took over. Orton won with an RKO after dodging a brogue kick.

WWE 9/12 Calgary, Canada, house show results: Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt street fight

From anonymous:

– Cesaro over Luke Harper in the opener after the Neutralizer. Good match, lots of playing to the crowd.

– R-Truth over Bo Dallas in a short match with a roll-up.

– Natalya over Alicia Fox in a short match with the Sharpshooter.

– WWE Tag Champions Big E and Xavier Woods over The Prime Time Players via roll-up to retain

– WWE Champion/U.S. Champion Seth Rollins over Dean Ambrose after the Pedigree to retain. Really good, long match. Rollins took the cover off a turnbuckle, then sent Ambrose into the exposed turnbuckle after a ref bump.

Intermission

– Curtis Axel & Damien Sandow beat The Ascension with a roll-up.

– Chris Jericho over Kevin Owens in a good, long match. Crowd loved both guys, lots of pretty entertaining mic work before the match.

– Roman Reigns beat Bray Wyatt in a street fight in the main event. Both Braun Strowman and Dean Ambrose got involved.

Good crowd. Lots of kids and families. Some fans tossed for shouting profanity at wrestlers, but otherwise nothing too crazy. Rollins, Ambrose, Reigns, Jericho and Owens got the biggest crowd reactions.

ROH 9/11 Dearborn, MI, Reloaded house show results: Young Bucks vs. Fish & O’Reilly

Submitted by Chris GST

WWE 9/11 Edmonton, Canada, house show results: Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns street fight, Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens

Submitted by Peter Tavares

From Edmonton, Canada:

– R-Truth def Bo Dallas

Dallas opened the show trashing the city, Truth came out to a decent response and won a back and forth match with lots of stalling from Bo.

– Damian Sandow / Curtis Axel def Ascension

Sandow was over big. Nobody cared about the Ascension. Axel got the pin.

– Natalya def Alicia Fox

Divas match was good. Natalya is top notch, Albertan crowd was obviously into the Sharpshooter.

– Chris Jericho def Kevin Owens

Owens came out, said it was his first time in Edmonton and he was disappointed. Almost left when Jericho came out and demanded a match. The two went back and forth on the mics for a while before starting to fight. MOTN and Jericho was by far the most over all night. Good match with the regular spots, Chris got the pin after a Codebreaker.

Intermission

– Cesaro def Luke Harper

Cesaro (with taped ribs) beat Harper after the intermission but got laid out afterwards. Really solid match, fairly stiff work. Also, at one point Cesaro put Harper in a crossface. Lots of the crowd popped big, even heard a ‘Chris Benoit’ chant from some guys nearby. That was weird. Probably the wrong city to do that move in, even if it’s one he’s using regulatory now.

– WWE Tag Team Champion New Day def Prime Time Players to retain their titles

New Day successfully defended against the PTP. More “sucks” than “rocks” chants, but crowd seemed into them regardless. No sign of Kofi – Woods and Big E worked the match. Darren Young was impressive, really hustling, and crowd was into Titus when he came in with the hot tag. They got cheered up the ramp after losing.

– WWE Champion/U.S. Champion Seth Rollins def Roman Reigns in a street fight

Main event was okay. Rollins got on the mic a lot during the match to build heat. Crowd really wanted a table spot, mostly unsatisfied with the chair and kendo stick. Eventually Roman speared him through a table, Bray Wyatt attacked and Rollins got called the winner even though there was no pin and it was a street fight. Whatever. Braun Strowman or whatever his name is came out and beat up Reigns too. Sandoval and Axel tried to make the save but got destroyed, then Cesaro came and he and Reigns took the big man out. Reigns then speared Wyatt to close the show.

Notes:

– The arena seemed empty. Nobody in the second bowl, where as a Smackdown taping two years ago was a near sell-out.

– Lots of kids in Cena merch probably bummed he wasn’t there. Crowd liked Reigns but wanted Ambrose too, Jericho was the only guy cheered like a big star. Lots of solid matches, but the tame, small crowd and lacking star power hurt the show. No Cena, Orton, Sheamus, Ziggler, Rusev, Ryback, Ambrose or Big Show, and none of the Diva’s Revolution.

WWE results 9-6 Salisbury, MD – Reigns vs. Wyatt

Ryback pinned Big Show to retain the IC Title.
Jimmy Uso pinned Brad Maddox.
The Ascension pinned Los Matadores, then The Ascension were pinned by Curtis Axel and Damien Sandow in a three-way elimination tag team match.
R-Truth pinned Bo Dallas.
Dean Ambrose pinned Luke Harper
Neville pinned Stardust
Natalya made Alicia Fox tap out.
Roman Reigns pinned Bray Wyatt in a street fight.

GFW house show report 9-5 Clinton, IA

By Joel Kolsrud
Saturday, September 5, 2015Ashford University FieldClinton, Iowa Clinton, Iowa has no real wrestling heritage or history. It’s a town of 26,000 people in eastern Iowa, about forty miles northeast of the Quad Cities, which has had a wrestling heritage and history. It’s no different than any other town of this size, despite the recent downturns in employment with several industries having closed down in the past fifteen years. In fact, they no longer feature “Riverboat Days”, once Iowa’s largest 4th of July festival. It’s just the area Clinton is and everyone is used to it. One thing people aren’t used to, however, is live pro wrestling in Clinton. The AWA came here four times between 1968-1971, usually the night before heading down to Burlington, Iowa, a town with almost the same exact population, a two-hour plus drive. They came back in 1983, the night prior to a Fond du Lac, WI show as well. Around that same time, Ringside Wrestling Promotions, owned and operated by Randy “Rocky” Brewer of Clinton ran a few shows in the area. Brewer wrestled all over during the mid-to-late 1970s and into the early 1980s before starting up RWP. He was mainly a television enhancement talent, though once held the NWA Mid American Tag Team Titles with Pat Rose in 1980 for the Nick and George Gulas. The fall of 1985 saw the the birth of Midwest Championship Wrestling by Dale “Crybaby” Edwards (the late George Hill). They ran monthly cards in Clinton (and surrounding areas), including using Ox Baker a time or two. In a big surprise, they also got television on the (at the time) brand new Fox affiliate, KLJB-TV in Davenport. The promotion made a go of it, including once having the actual contract to become a legit member of the National Wrestling Alliance, though which never came to fruition. They mainly used area talent but also had some of Eddie Sharkey’s guys like Teijo Kahn and Ricky Rice. The promotion eventually folded in the summer of 1986. The AWA made a return on September 2, 1989 to what was then known as Riverview Stadium, the current Ashford University Field. It was a sold show with about 400 in attendance featuring name guys like Larry Zbyszko, Baron Von Raschke, Colonel DeBeers and Mike George. The non-name talent at the time were the likes of Paul Diamond, Derrick Dukes and The Destruction Crew, Wayne Bloom and Mike Enos. Between 2001-2003, Riverboat Days brought in an indie pro wrestling show. Because it was part of getting into the fair itself, the grandstands at the ballpark were full. Still, the lineups announced never even came close to the card presented. This included one show with the ridiculous billing of the Rock and Roll Express (yes, that Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) by promoter Manny Fernandez (yes, that Raging Bull) claiming their failure to appear was due to having been in an auto accident. Another year had Harley Race become a no-show due to being injured, even though Race had been retired from wrestling by then. So, in 2015, we were fortunate enough to get Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling, the first pro wrestling event in Clinton in 12 years, and only the fifth in the past 30. About 300 fans turned out for a nice evening of old school wrestling, complete with an appearance by both Jarrett himself and Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Duggan was out front at his souvenir table prior to the show and was just like I remembered him back in the 1980s and 1990s for the WWF in both Peoria and the Quad Cities (Moline and Davenport) when signing autographs for fans. He seemed real glad to be there and when a few fans mentioned coming out specifically to see him, he quickly added that Jarret was there as well. This crew started in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, drove the hour to Waterloo on Friday and then 2½ hours from there to Clinton. Not quite as bad as the old days. 1. Sonjay Dutt pinned DJZ (the former Xena Ion) at 7:20 after a tornado DDT.The ring was at homeplate of the ballpark and all fans were seated in the grandstands. Like the six matches featured this night, they all worked real hard playing to the crowd and encouraging their participation in the respective matches, but with the whole show itself. Fun match, especially the comedy with Dutt getting ahold of DJZ’ headphones and trying to mess up his hair. 2. Matt Bentley won a Triple Threat Match over Tommaso Ciampa and Kevin Matthews at 9:05, pinning Ciampa after hitting him with The Showstopper.Matt Bentley’s hometown is Clinton, Iowa and this was an unadvertised surprise. Bentley is the former Michael Shane, and is a first cousin with “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels, whose real last name is Hickenbottom, and who has family still living in the Clinton area. Bentley has short hair now and looked pretty good considering he rarely, if ever, wrestles anymore. It was mostly Ciampa and Matthews double-teaming the hometown guy, but they ended up turning on each other and Bentley scored the fall using his famous cousin’s finisher. Special Appearance:  Hacksaw Jim DugganDuggan came out and thanked everyone, Global Force Wrestling, etc. and then in an about-face, started talking about world’s troubles with terrorists. This brought out Ariya Daivari, who then stole Duggan’s 2×4 (the very one he has always brought to the ring with him all these years, or so said Brandon Baxter) and ran off. It was almost more comical that all of the wrestlers were coming out of the same dugout, as opposed to the old days when the heels were in the visiting team side and the faces were on the home team side. 3. ODB pinned Mickie James at 9:56, rolling her up and holding her tights. This got little reaction and the action inside the ring was a little rough, as in, painful to watch. On that note, it was somewhat interesting to see a spot where the referee was breaking them up, and holding them apart from one another. In this attempt at comedy, however, he had one hand on the breast of both women while doing this. After a few minutes more, ODB then gave James a “titty rub”, all in front of the young kids, making up about 20-25% of the crowd. ODB kept drinking from a flask as well, so it was what it was, and what it was, wasn’t real good. Or entertaining. 4. Nick “Magnus” Aldis pinned Chris “the former Chris ‘Masterlock’ Masters” Mordetzky at 11:59 after a flying elbow drop from the top rope. This was pretty solid, much like the opener, and was mainly Mordetzky trying to put Aldis into the Masterlock. He did manage to get him into it twice, but Aldis escaped both times, which led to him winning the match. 5. The New Heavenly Bodies (Desirable Dustin and Gigolo Justin) defeated Zero Gravity (CJ Esparza and Brett Gayika) at 11:30 when Justin pinned Brett. This was a fun match as well, and pretty much all action the entire time. Zero Gravity are really small, but had some of the coolest double tag team moves. All four guys were in the ring at the same time pretty much the entire time, and while not a Texas Tornado Match, made it tons better than it might have been otherwise. Special Appearance:  “Double J” Jeff JarrettJarrett came out and gave a real cool speech about presenting old time wrestling, how they’re just starting and then mentioned possibly returning in 2016. We’ll see, but I’d definitely go. He spoke about the upcoming main event with Colt Cabana, mentioning it would be entertaining and fun and that Cabana would make us laugh and cry and want to slap the person next to each of us lol. MAIN EVENT:6. Colt Cabana pinned Ariya Daivari at 15:37, with revenge interference from Hacksaw Jim DugganI’d never seen Colt Cabana before tonight. In fact, on the way through the parking lot heading towards the ticket window, my brother says, “Is that Colt Cabana?” and I’m like…I have no idea. I’ve only ever heard of him, but have never seen him. Of course, it was. And for anyone who’s never seen him, this was the most entertaining pro wrestling match I’ve seen in decades. Daivari wanted to pray on his rug, so Cabana put his sweat towel right next to him and did the same thing. It was hilarious and Cabana later on put Daivari’s turban-like headwear over Daivari’s face and then tied it with the necklace they played the blind angle for several minutes. Another deal was Cabana grabbing Daivari’s prayer rug and jumping off of the top rope with it and landing onto Daivari. So I’m guessing this was The Magic Carpet Ride? They got down to wrestling with Daivari gaining the upper hand. The finish came down to a ref bump and Daivari grabbing the 2×4 he’d also brought out to the ring with him. Duggan, sitting in the dugout watching the match, came running out (well, running isn’t accurate, but ol’ Hacksaw is 61 years old these days and did the best he could), slid into the ring, grabbed the 2×4, gave a big “Hoooooooooooo!!”, whacked Daivari with the board, slid back out of the ring and the ref revived just in time to see Cabana covering Daivari and counted the fall. LAST NOTES:They allowed anyone who paid $20 to climb into the ring and get a photo taken with both Jarrett and Duggan. There must’ve been at least 50 people lined up (though some of them had photos taken as a group). Still, it was very impressive and everyone seemed to have a great time. Including yours truly, who has finally gone a wrestling show that was enjoyable for a change. Oh, and my brother never did follow through with slapping me, as Jarrett had alluded to earlier would happen watching a Colt Cabana match. Instead, he thanked me. Because we had fun. Joel KolsrudCamanche, IA[email protected]
