WWE 9/28 Syracuse, NY, house show results: John Cena vs. Seth Rollins

– WWE Tag Team Champions New Day beat Primetime Players & Dudleys. After the match, New Day tried to put one of the Dudleys through a table, but instead Xavier ended up taking the 3D through the table.

– Curtis Axel & Damien Sandow beat Los Matadores in a quick match. The Matadores worked as heels (I don’t remember if they made a turn on television). Torito came out to help Axel & Sandow, which led to the finish. 

– Chris Jericho beat Luke Harper in a good match. Jericho was super over. 

– Ryback beat WWE I-C Champion Kevin Owens by DQ (eye rake). Ryback got a good crowd reaction. He laid out Owens after the match. 

– WWE Divas Champion Charlotte & Becky Lynch beat the Bellas (with Fox at ringside). Bellas got the heat on Becky, then Charlotte made the comeback and won with the Figure 8. Not much to the match.

– Big Show beat Cesaro clean with a chokeslam. Better than expected. 

– WWE U.S. Champion John Cena beat WWE Champion Seth Rollins with the AA in a good, long match. Both worked really hard. 

WWE 9/27 Erie, PA, house show results: Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose vs. Wyatts

– Neville beat Stardust in 9:30 with the Red Arrow.

– Jack Swagger made the Miz tap out to the ankle lock in 9 minutes

– Lucha Dragons over the Ascension in 7:45.  Kids were into the Dragons.  Kalisto’s mask actually came off when he did a splash onto the Ascension but luckily he landed face down and was able to put the mask back on within a few seconds. 

– Adam Rose came out with somewhat of a new gimmick.  He wore black dress pants and blue dress shirt with white glasses.  He told all the fans they are looser and should leave.  This went on for about 3 minutes until Jimmy Uso superkicked Rose to start and end the match in 5 seconds.

– Street fight: Randy Orton beat Sheamus in 20 minutes with the RKO. Good psychology by Orton leading to the RKO

– Natalia beat Naomi in 5:30

– Dolph Ziggler over Rusev in 17 minutes. Rusev showed real good intensity and Ziggler is always good.

– Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose beat Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman. Good crowd reaction throughout the match.  Strowman looked real green but he is new.  The other 3 looked great.

Notes:

– 20 minutes before the show started, they had the fans vote on what match they want to see on the monitor above the ring.  The choices were all from past Summerslams.  The choices were Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels, Undertaker vs Mick Foley or Undertaker vs Edge.  Undertaker vs Edge won.

– Attendance was way down from the last show here.  One side of ringside seats was only about 10% full.  Overall floor seats were only about 30 percent full.  Seems like the price of those tickets went way up since the last show here.  Overall, I’m estimating the crowd at only 2,500.

Here is a quick run down of the live event in Erie tonight.

Arrived at the end of the first match which had Neville going over Stardust. What I saw of it was awesome. Really had the crowd going.

Swagger over The Miz in what was easily the laziest match of the night. My wife has never been to a live event and rarely watches the product but she even commented on how slow they were and how little they appeared to be trying. 

Lucha Dragons get the win against The Ascension. Match was entertaining and got the crowd rolling after the Miz/Swagger snooze fest. 

Jimmy Uso goes over Adam Rose with a super kick after Rose antagonizes the crowd. I guess Rose was trying out a new gimmick which I had not  seen. He was wearing a collared shirt tucked in to slacks with thick rimmed glasses. His promo probably lasted 5 minutes at the very least. Nothing remarkable. Seems like he is on his way out the door and they are just throwing him out there to fill time. As soon as he finished talking Uso delivered the kick and it was over in less than 10 seconds.

Last bout before intermission was Orton and Sheamus in a street fight. Match went about 15 minutes I am guessing with Orton going over with an RKO. Good hard fight that was pretty physical. Sheamus got thrown through a table leaning against the ring post which got a nice pop.

Ziggler over Rusev in a nice hard fought bout. Ziggler nails the Zig-Zag shortly after Summer Rae smacks him with her shoe and she is sent back to the locker room. No flirting  between the two.

Second to last match is Natty and Naomi with Natty getting the sub via sharp shooter. My wife is really into the Divas since we began watching Total Divas together. She enjoyed the match but was sad it was the only divas bout on the card.

Main Event was Dean and Roman vs. Bray and Braun. Crowd popped big for Ambrose and Reigns. Only saw half the match before leaving. We took my 10 month old and he had about had it so we got while the getting was good.

ROH 9/26 Lockport, NY, house show results: Jay Lethal vs. Stevie Richards, Michael Elgin vs. Adam Cole vs. ACH vs. Moose

Tonight’s ROH show in Lockport,NY could have been a giant mess. The Briscoes pulled out due to a funeral they needed to attend, Nick Jackson cancelled his entire weekend of shows because his wife went into labor early. Unforeseen circumstances show how much character and heart a person OR a company has. Despite the losses of talent, ROH made it work, and delivered a pretty good show tonight.

Veda Scott vs. Sumie Sukai

This started off pretty slow and sloppy. It’s obvious that this roster needs more depth in the Women’s division. They picked it up at the end and made it somewhat entertaining.

ANX vs. House Of Truth

Decent match but nothing too special. Funny stuff from the crowd calling J Diesel Mini-Tista! ANX gets the win and continues up the tag ranks.

Caprice Coleman vs. Pepper Parks 

Great promo by Coleman before this match started. He took the reins as the de facto heel here as Parks is from Buffalo. One of the best promos I’ve ever heard him cut actually. OK match. Coleman gets the win when Parks tries to use a chain to cheat, steals it, and uses it on him. Nice Let’s Go Buffalo chants in the match as well by the crowd.

Roderick Strong vs Watanabe

Great, hard-hitting match as you might suspect. They really beat each other up. Roddy gets the win with a Sic Kick. One of Watanabe’s better ROH outings.

Matt Jackson vs. Matt Taven

Adam Cole cuts promo saying he has some unfinished business after Matt Jackson interfered in his match the night before. He calls out Jackson, says he has a match later with Matt Taven, and refers to him as One Buck. Of course, the crowd latched onto this and we had the One Buck chant tonight! Matt Jackson came from in from behind and Super Kicked Cole. Taven then hit the ring and attacked Jackson, promptly starting their match. Even as a single, Matt was super over and had good, entertaining match with Taven. Matt had some hilarious spots using the crotch chop. Particularly when he did a crotch-chop and suck-it between a count to 10 in the corner with punches. 1… suck it! 2… suck it! 3… suck it! And so on. Cole being at ringside really added a good dimension to this match. Matt Jackson finally won with a superkick and had a good singles showing. 

Cheeseburger & Will Ferrara vs Brutal Bob Evans & GN Hughes

This was good comedy match with Cheeseburger some over as a white-meat babyface in The Nickel City. Looks like Cheeseburger & Ferrara may be a regular team. Nice new double team finisher that won them the match.

Chris Daniels vs. Hanson

First off, I just love the evolution of The Addiction gimmick with Kaz becoming The Rock N Roll Rebel and Daniels becoming The Ring General. Great promo before this match with The Addiction saying they never got pinned for The World Tag Titles of The World. So as far as they are concerning they are still the champions. War Machine interrupts and wants a match. Daniels then says Kaz is hurt. Hanson then challenges The Fallen Angel to a singles match. OK match ends in a double DQ. A brawl ensues between the two teams which requires security to come out. Two good points follows with Hanson taking a dive to the outside onto the other three and a slew of security. Also a nasty bump by Daniels, taking a double chokeslam from War Machine through 4 chairs! 

Proving Ground match: ROH World Champion/TV Champion Lethal vs. Stevie Richards

Stevie Richards is still in damn good shape and had a pretty good match with the Champ tonight. Lethal pretty over here in Buffalo as the crowd showed Lethal a lot of respect. It was well deserved, as he put in a good match giving as that classic Horsemen ring psychology. Which he does on most nights, which makes him one of the best in the business. Taeler Hendrix and Truth accompanied Lethal tonight and it added a new wrinkle to the House of Truth. After valiant effort, Lethal retains after Lethal Injection.

Michael Elgin vs. Adam Cole vs. ACH vs. Moose

Great main event! I like how they didn’t let anything outshine the main event and burn the crowd out beforehand. This was the wild, insane, fun match you come to expect from an ROH main event. Great work from all of them, particularly ACH. Maybe that’s why he went over. ACH with a pinfall win over Moose to win this match. ACH looks to be on the rise and getting in line for an epic program with Jay Lethal once again. ****

Xavier Woods and Big E def. PTP when Kofi interfered and hit trouble in Paradise on Titus.

Braun Strowman def Damien Sandow in a squash. Sandow has new music

Curtis Axel and El Torito def. Los Matadores. It started as a handicap match as Axel Vs Matadores but then El Torito came out to “Bad To The Bone” and became Axel’s partner.

Chris Jericho def Luke Harper with the codebreaker.

Ryback def. Kevin Owens by dq when Owens raked the eyes. Ryback hit shell shock after the match

Ambrose def. Bray Wyatt. No holds barred match, Harper came out and attacked Ambrose and set up a table, then the Dudley’s put Harper through the table. Strowman came and beat up the Dudley’s and then ryback came out and beat up Strowman with Ambrose. Ambrose hit dirty deeds for the win. Wyatt tripped taking the move so it looked soft

Charlotte and Becky def. The Bella’s with Alicia fox at ringside.

Big Show def. Cesaro with a chokeslam. Crowd was chanting for Show to retire, so he took the mic and said “no”.

Cena def. Rollins to retain US title with an AA off the top. Pretty much the same match as their NOC match except the finish. 

ROH 9-25 House Show Results California, PA Briscoes vs Addiction

Taeler Hendrix pinned Mandy Leon. After the match, B.J. Whitmer came out and insulted both women and introduced Kelly Klein as the newest member of Decade.

The Addiction (Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels) defeated Will Ferrara and Watanabe. After the match, The Addiction continued the attack until The Briscoes ran out for the save. Main Event announced as Briscoes vs. Addiction later in night.

ACH pinned Caprice Coleman.

Adam Cole challenged Kyle O’Reilly to a fight. O’Reilly is in Japan so Cheeseburger came out. Cole pinned Cheeseburger and attacked him after the match until Matt Jackson made the save with a Superkick. Nick Jackson is a no-show due to his wife going in to labor.

Moose & War Machine defeated House Of Truth (Jay Lethal, Jay Diesel &Donovan Dijak w/Truth Martini and Taeler Hendrix) after Hanson pinned Diesel.

“Brutal” Bob Evans pins Shaheem Ali.

The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Michael Bennett w/Maria Kanellis) defeated The All Night Express (Kenny King & Rhett Titus) in a Proving Ground Match after Adam Cole interfered and Bennett pinned Titus after the Hail Mary. After the match, Matt Jackson gave Cole two more Superkicks leading to Cole challenging Jackson to a match.

Adam Cole pinned Matt Jackson. After the match, Jackson gave Cole one final Superkick.

Michael Elgin pinned Roderick Strong after an Elgin Bomb.

The Briscoes defeated The Addiction after Mark Briscoe pinned Christopher Daniels after a Froggy ‘Bow.

More weekend big show feedback

ROH- thumbs upBest match- fish vs lethal  this was a good show…i like the tag title change…i kind of thought the knights of krd flopped. I was at some of the shows they were introduced under the mask and the crowed was always groaning. Looking forward to aj and lethal that should be really good. Adam Cole vs Kyle o’Reilly is always awesome.  CMLL- awesome main event best match of the weekend.  la sombra with out the mask errr….i dont know about that. I think there was money left on the table with that one. I love dragon lee this guy is super underrated those matches with kamaitachi are some of the years best stuff. i wish there would be more mixing of njpw and cmll…i would have loved to see some njpw guys on this show and cmll guys on njpw shows.  belator dyninite thumbs in the middle 1- this felt like an early an early pride event with older guys fighting young guys, but nothing really stood out. kick boxing in america is always looking for that right match and its never came.  night of championships- thumbs up- best Cena vs Rollins  it was a good show and i didn’t get boarded…I cant say i disagree with anything of the out comes. i thought Cena and Rollins was very good.  jonathan juett

WWE Night of Champions Best Match: John Cena vs Seth Rollins Worst Match: New Day vs Dudleys The Seth Rollins show was quite amazing. Yes he lost to John Cena (and dropped the U.S. title back in the process) but he got to pin a legend, albeit one who has a tainted WWE record (0-2 in big shows).  NOC was the occasion to have “legends” put over future talent. I have more faith in Rollins as a main eventer than I do in Bron Strowman however. Although Jericho does have the unbeatable aura, if they keep bringing him back only to job on PPVs, he’ll lose that soon enough – shades of Mick Foley. Owens gains back momentum and the program with Ryback has a basis in reality (bashing the self-help books). But where does Owens go from here with a heel champ and Sheamus seemingly ready to cash in his shot at any turn? Rusev is another heel treading water, doing jobs to Dolph Ziggler and apparently waiting for Lana to return to revive his heat (and his push). Bravo to Charlotte for grabbing the Divas title. Now it’s just a matter of time until they turn Paige and segue the Bellas back to reality TV fulltime (or revive the Divas tag belts for them). Jeff CohenFlushing, NY How you doin’ Dave,

Thumbs In The Middle

Neville & Lucha Dragons vs. Stardust & The Ascension ***1/4
Thought the right team won with Cosmic Wasteland being a new faction, and I’m happy to see a feud between wrestlers this far down the card with some legs, as I presume this isn’t the end.   

Owens vs. Ryback ***1/2
Thought they rushed certain things but felt it was a good match. Also was very pleased/relieved with the result as they need some heels with some steam and I’m a big admirer of Owens. Having the IC title is seen as a curse nowadays but they looked after Ryback during his reign and hopefully they do the same with Owens.  

Ziggler vs. Rusev **3/4
Didn’t really care for most of the match, wasn’t really much emphasis or dramatics on anything, was largely just a bunch of moves and didn’t think the layout was very good either, it got better towards the end but also got botchy. Glad to see they went with Bryan’s finish and interested to see where things go from here.

Worst Match: Dudleys vs. New Day **3/4  
This has to be the worst match I suppose on account of the DQ finish, but I was probably the only person pleased to see it. I was hoping to see a three way on this show with The PTPs involved and getting beat, as I felt it was too early to beat The Dudleys or for New Day to lose the titles, this accomplished that. I guess I’m too old school, but the trombone has to go! Not that I don’t find Woods entertaining, but the heat section of the match isn’t supposed to be overly exciting, in one aspect to give the crowd an incentive to get behind the babyfaces, the trombone negates that. And much like Mizdow, Woods’ antics are killing the babyface team.      

Nikki Bella vs. Charlotte ***
I thought this was a good effort by the ladies and felt Charlotte performed very well in the match. However I will say I felt the story-spots ratio was a little off, thought the work on the leg was a bit heavy and feared at numerous points they would lose the crowd, but luckily they didn’t. Also Nikki never really gave Charlotte any space to sell, she was just on her, on her, on her. On another note I’m gaining optimism for the divas revolution as it appears to have taken strides forward the last week or so.

Wyatts vs. Ambrose, Jericho & Reigns ***1/2
Thought this match was better than the feud’s outing at Summerslam and thought Strowman’s involvement was laid-out very well. Numerous thoughts went through my head towards the end of the segment as at one point I thought Strowman was getting beat and it was the end of him, then I was shocked to see Jericho get beat on his return as it takes the wind out of his sails, then I was/am interested to see whether this develops into a Jericho heel turn which would be beneficial to the roster, or, whether it was to establish the end of the alliance and Jericho’s return was a one night thing.

Best Match: Cena vs. Rollins ***3/4
Lots of nice pretty moves and sequences during the match and wasn’t as irritating as some of Cena’s recent PPV encounters, but still a little too much sizzle and not enough steak for me. However can’t discount it was a very good match. Best part of the match for me was when the crowd started doing the Mexican Wave and the performers regained control by Rollins conducting the wave, whomevers idea that was whether it be Cena or Rollins it was excellent. Also a Japanese style finish where Cena hit three moves in a row before pinning the guy was nice to see.

Rollins vs. Sting ***3/4
If it wasn’t for the unfortunate incident with Sting at the end of the match this would’ve been my match of the night easy. Yes, I realise Rollins was very much the glue in this match but at 56 years old Sting was absolutely incredible. Really good pacing, good fundamentals, good building, good layout, nice spots, thought it was very good. Plus, Rollins got a clean win!

Ed Branscomb  WWE Night of Champions: Thumbs UpBest Match: Cena vs. RollinsWorst Match: Ryback vs. Owens The preshow six man was a fun way to kick things off.  It’s amazing how Neville was NXT Champion and now he is on the losing end of the preshow.  Not like I should have expected him to actually be treated somewhat better than this.  I guess this feud continues. Kevin Owens winning the I-C Title sounds good in theory, but will he be like all the most recent Champs and actually be worse off in the end?  Match was okay and I’m getting real tired of the roll up finish.  It’s being used far too often. Ziggler vs. Rusev was mostly a good match and I hope this feud is over.  Looks like Summer Rae is back to no storyline and not sure where Lana fits in now.  Remember when Rusev wasn’t in a meaningless undercard feud?  Oh wait I can say that about almost the entire roster at this point. Tag Title match was fun and I guess they had to do the DQ to keep the program going since it was too soon to put it on the Dudley’s.  I guess they will meet again.  It’s not like there are any other real times on the horizon right now. Was nice to see Charlotte win the Divas Title and celebrate with Ric, but still not as good as the NXT women’s matches.  I also didn’t like how they talked about the history of the Divas title and forgot to mention that everyone they talked about was a Women’s Champion before the Divas Title ever existed.  They need to split these teams up though as it isn’t really helping anyone I don’t think. Six man tag was fine and I was happy to see Chris Jericho, but had a feeling he was doing the job when he came out.  Not sure about his possible heel turn though unless he is sticking around to feud with Ambrose maybe.  Cena vs. Rollins once again top match on the show like last month, although not as good as Summer Slam.  I guess the U.S. Open Challenge will be back on Raw tomorrow. Sting vs. Rollins was good overall.  Too bad Sting got hurt during the match and honestly not sure if Sting will ever have a victory in his WWE tenure.  I don’t count that nonsense from Raw against the Big Show.  Not sure I want to see Kane vs. Rollins for the title however. Well at least Lesnar vs. Taker in Hell in a Cell next month so that should be good I guess.  It says it is the final time so I guess that means they have new plans for Taker at Mania next year. Robb Block  

Feedback to ROH & CMLL shows

Worst: women’s match…not terrible, but the other matches were better.

Best: Atlantis vs sombra…f’ing phenomenal match…I watch very little cmll, like just the anniversaries & fantasticamania stuff, but this was the most dramatic match I think I’ve ever seen…more dramatic than last year’s due to the far superior match quality & family involvement.

Worst Match: Silas vs. Dalton (by default, I still enjoyed it).

Enjoyable show as always. I enjoyed the booking of the main event. It’s not something ROH does constantly and the way it played out makes sense.  Looking forward to Final Battle.

Thumbs way up for the CMLL Show!!! First iPPV this antiquated fan has ever bought, and the best $10.00 I have spent toward any PPV. No glitches, no complaints, no way! After having feed issues from the Terra.com days, I am pleasantly shocked!

Best Match: ATLANTIS vs SOMBRA – Somebody should compile a DVD charting the feud from beginning to tonight for students entering the biz… THIS IS HOW IT’S DONE! Atlantis, Sombra AND Rush all delivered in making this a match that set me on the edge of my seat like I was a kid again. And Sombra and Rush — these cats put over Atlantis like he’s on the level of El Santo, and in polished fashion! La Sombra was already a great rudo, he has now become a super heel.

Worst Match: There was no worst match, though Ultimo Guerrero should score an award for working best he could with Thunder.

Best yet— this show was so bitchin’ that the L.A. Park & Wagner situation became a complete non-issue after tonight.

Oh— I am just a tad disappointed the mascots didn’t scrap it out a bit more. C’mon, I gotta bitch & moan about something!

Best match: Sombra vs Atlantis

Worst match: Dark Angel vs Princess Sugehit

There’s a reason CMLL is in the place they are right now – draw big houses two times a year for big shows, and occasionally do well with an older, established star. Meanwhile, there’s a sea of mid-carders whose legs have been cut out from underneath them or have never been pushed.

Booking of Rush/Volador was great. Match wasn’t that good. I guess that is the 83rd Aniversario main event, with the hair on-the-line? 

Long-term, Sombra should have won. He’s their most promising young wrestler and by far the most-charismatic guy they have. I look at Universo 2000 as an example of putting over a guy and making him into a draw. They could have done that with Sombra – except instead of being 35 with Universo 2000, Sombra is 25. But, it’s CMLL.

fucked over Lethal (and what the hell did he do with his tights) who
should have gotten an actual win on his first night defending both
titles. Not the rollup with the tights or the fuck finish that was the
main match

TV Title – Lethal/Fish was good, but the finish was bad.

Castle/Young was not as good as their Best of Both Worlds match, and any
time a wrestler decides to get DQ’d in front of a ref when they have a
stip for losing totally loses me.

Briscos/ANX was good, but Cole/Detmer on commentary really were
distracting for me. Great to see they didn’t bury King on his return
from TNA, but it felt like they were trying to promote too many feuds at
once.

Moose/Alexander – Moose needs to stop doing anything that takes him
above the middle rope. Ending was good, rest of the match sucked. Lot of
cringeworthy unprotected headshots with a chair as well.

ACH/Sydal – Pretty Good match, shouldn’t have been on PPV. It was a 3rd
match in a best of 5, with them tied at 1-1. Corino tried playing up the
2-1 advantage, but it really didn’t matter. Matches 4 and 5 should be on
PPV as potential feud ending ones….not a non deciding match.

Tag Title Match: Addiction/Young Bucks/Kingdom Great match. Even if
ended on interference, it brought good closure on the KDR angle that
gave Addiction the title win in Austin to begin with. Interesting to see
where this goes, especially after the ME. Great action, everyone did
well, and I didn’t mind that it was the 4th fuck finish on a 7 match card.

#1 Contenders Match – Styles/Elgin/Cole/Strong
Kind of shocked that Nigel made no mention of the interference in the
previous match, given that was his reasoning for making it a 3 way to
begin with on the TV tapings. It was a good match, but honestly, Elgin
and Strong should not have been in this position. Elgin was in a much
better position after his G-1 performance, but not close for a world
title shot. Strong already had 2 shots against Lethal and couldn’t win.
Cole was my favorite to win, and I didn’t think AJ would win as a part
time guy. Glad to see we’re getting AJ/Lethal or Fish/Lethal soon, but I
was more happy that this match didn’t end in a fuck finish after we’ve
had 3 or 4 already.

World Title match:
WWE is going to have a hard time fucking it up more than ROH. You eject
the interference and start a conga line of interference instead. Match
never really got going before the fuck finish. Lethal needed to be
booked stronger than he was. Two fuck finish victories for your True ROH
Champion on a PPV? Fuck. I at least expect that WWE is going to drop a
title off of Rollins, which is the right call.

Best match: Atlantis vs Sombra
Worst: Maximo/et al vs Polvora/Dragon Rojo/Rey Escorpion

Almost all matches had good moments, even the mostly inconsequential ones. Good showing by Disturbio in opener. Young guys good, but Virus is great as cagey veteran. Second match was fine; told Maximo had great heat live. women’s match was okay, but too slow paced and lost the crowd. May have better to have Dark Angel wrestle a ruda like Amapola or Zeuxis. Dragon Lee could’ve stole the show if the main event was not so good. Shame Niebla got a spot that could have gone to Cavernario or Hechicero. semi-main had good action, but a horrible finish. Main was great even if my prediction was wrong. Not quite the twilight of the 80s Luchadors, as Dr. lucha wrote in the lucha issue of our new magazine.  Were they already setting up hair vs Mask with Rush and Atlantis for next year?

Almost no problems with the stream. Lost audio a couple times, but no video issues or buffering. Over 10,000 viewers on youtube, thought 9,000 or more likely did not pay. Certainly worth $10.

WWE NXT house show report 9-18 Austin, TX

  I attended the first ever NXT house show in Austin earlier this evening. The event was held in the Austin Music Hall, which hosted a TNA house show in 2011. The venue will be torn down at the end of the year, so NXT will be one of the final shows to hit Austin Music Hall. First up was the VIP Meet and Greet. Basically you were given two ticket options when they went on sale: $100 guaranteed seats with a superstar meet and greet, or $75 General Admission. The VIP was literally just an autograph and picture opportunity with Bull Dempsey. Not exactly worth the extra cash. That being said, Bull was AWESOME, as he took the time to interact with every fan and seemed happy to be there.  – Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady def. Blake & Murphy (with Alexa Bliss) and Jordan & Gable. Cass comes out in a huge cowboy hat while he and Enzo do their intro. Gable was also a huge hit with the crowd. Post match, the Dubstep Cowboys and Alexa stare down Enzo and Cass. – Apollo Crews def. Tye Dillinger. Crowd chanted “Uhaa” to start but was chanting “Apollo” by the end – Bull Dempsey def. Solomon Crowe –  NXT Women’s Title Match: Bayley def. Dana Brooke with the Belly to Bayley. Afterwards, Bayley poses for pictures with kids at ringside, letting them hold the title. – Intermission. Only NXT merch is sold at the stand, including the awesome NXT Texas shirt. Pricey at $30 but cool. – Dusty Rhodes Memorial Tag Tournament: Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson def. NXT Tag Champs The Vaudevillains in a shocking non-title upset. The Vaudevillains try to shake hands after the match but Dawson and Wilder refused, cheap shot the champs and ran away. This was taped and should air on NXT TV at some point. – Emma def. Carmella via submission – Samoa Joe def. Tyler Breeze with the Coquina Clutch. Crowd chants “This is Awesome” before the bell even rings… good match somewhat ruined by stupid crowd chants. Really the only time throughout the night the crowd acted too “smarky.” Counting TNA house shows, Joe wins his first match in Austin, going 0-3 in TNA house shows in the city. – Main Event, NXT Title: Finn Balor def. Baron Corbin with the Coup des Gras. Finn came out in a plain black leather jacket and was assaulted by Corbin before the bell. Fun match. They botched a DDT at one point but covered nicely by rolling out of the ring while some people try to start a “You Fucked Up” chant but fail. Afterwards, Finn grabs the mic and says he’ll return to Austin. End of show. Most of the wrestlers signed autographs and took pictures outside as they were leaving. Overall, one of the best WWE live events I’ve attended. Everyone was having a blast and the wrestlers were all excited to be there.

WWE house show report 9-18 Montreal: Reigns & Ambrose vs. Wyatt & Harper; Owens vs. Cesaro; Patterson appears

WWE house show at the Bell Center in Montreal.  Neville beat Stardust with a 450 splash.  Good match and good reaction to Neville.  Team PCB b Team Bad with Natalya as guest referee.  PCB got a better babyface reaction than Neville. Charlotte pin Tamina with the natural selection.  After the match, Banks complained that it was a fast count, Tamina attacked Natalya from behind. Three on one until Natalya did a comeback and the heels took the powder. Nice pop for Natalya. Good match with Charlotte being the most over.  Dolph Ziggler beat Rusev w/Summer Rae Ziggler got a huge reaction coming to the ring with a Montreal Canadiens jersey with number 69 on the back (clever). Best match on the card so far. A lot, and I mean a lot of near falls. Two “This is awesome” chants. These chants used to mean something. And don’t get me wrong. It’s a good match live. But not awesome. Summer attacked Ziggler with one of her high heel shoes, referee saw it and she got kicked out. Ziggler won with the Zig Zag.  New Day beat Dudley Boyz and Prime Time Players when Kofi pin Buh Buh with a small package. After the match, the Dudleys put Woods through a table. Dudleys had the new best pop of the night, which is going to be Owens at the end of the day anyway.  Ryback beat Seth Rollins by DQ when Rollins used a chair outside the ring. Until then the match was good but the finish felt flat. After the match, Rollins cut a promo saying he’s the best. He went to attack Ryback with a chair but Ryback ducked and hit the Shell Shocked on Rollins.  Intermission R-Truth beat The Miz. The Miz spoke in French saying he hated poutine, the Montreal Canadiens and said he was magnificent. They had a dance off and Truth won with the Lie Detector. Very short match.  Pat Patterson came to the ring and acted as the ring announcer, instead of Jojo, for the following match, between Cesaro and Kevin Owens.  Why is Owens in the semi-main instead of the main-event with one match left is mind boggling. If Rollins and Ryback was the main-event I’d understand. But I can’t say I can now. Owens was the babyface here and Cesaro the heel.  Owens won with the pop up power bomb. Maybe not better than Ziggler and Rusev but as good for sure. Owens took the mic and in French thanked everyone, said that it meant the world to him to wrestle in front of his wife and parents at home and that this Sunday, he would continue the bloodline of Quebecers having success in WWE by winning the IC title against Ryback.  Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose beat Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper The lights went off and Braun Stowman was in the ring. After putting Reigns to sleep, Ambrose took the upper hand and Reigns woke up and superman punched Harper. Wyatt went for the Sister Abigail but Ambrose reversed it and applied the Dirty Deeds for the win. The Kevin Owens’ t-shirt with the Montreal Canadiens colours and KO logo sold like hot cakes. By intermission there were no larges and XLs left. TNA house show report 9-17 York, PA

I was at the TNA house show tonight at the York Fairgrounds in York, PA.

Results:

Tyrus b. DJZ by pinfall in a nothing match. Nobody knew Tyrus by his TNA name. Everyone was yelling Brodus and Funkasaurus.

The Wolves b. Abyss/Manik by pinfall in a decent match. Wolves were kind of over.

Gail Kim b. Awesome Kong by pinfall. Kong doesn’t look like she’s moving around too well. After the match, she went into the empty ringside seats and started throwing chairs like she was in Japan. Except there probably would have been people in the seats in Japan.

Tommy Dreamer b. Eli Drake by pinfall. Dreamer came out to his old ECW music and he got the biggest pop of the night for anyone not named Hardy. Nobody knew who Drake was. They brawled in the crowd and Dreamer had little kids slap Drake and dump popcorn on him.

Bobby Roode b. Mr. Anderson and Drew Galloway in a 3-way. I believe Roode pinned Anderson. This was the best match of the night. Roode and Galloway came across as big stars and deserve much more than this. Anderson held his own in the match too. This was the 4th match of the night that featured nut shots by the way. Gotta go for the easy heat.

EC3 w/Tyrus & Jeff Hardy b. Matt Hardy by pinfall. EC3 and Jeff Hardy played up the personal assistant thing with EC3 telling Jeff not to do something and he did it anyway. Jeff started “EC3 sucks” chants, etc. EC3 pinned Matt via inside cradle after a Tyrus distraction and Jeff hitting Tyrus on the back with a chair. Then the Hardys put EC3 through a table via a Matt splash off the top rope to send the crowd home happy. The only thing physical Jeff did was the chairshot and a few punches.

 1. Enzo & Big Cass vs Chad Gable & Jordan. The ring isn’t lit for shit. Enzo pinned Gable after a rocket launcher.

2. Bull Dempsey pinned Tye Dillinger with a flying teabag. Comedy match.

3. Apollo Crews beat Solomon Crowe. Crews did some nice spots.

4. Samoa Joe vs Baron Corbin. “Joe’s gonna kill you” chant to start. Lackluster offense by Corbin. Joe won by KO/submission with the clutch.

Intermission

5. Dana Brooke pinned Carmela. Not good. Was wishing the ring was even more poorly lit.

6. Tag title: Vaudevillains beat Blake & Murphy. Best match so far. Vaudevillains are fantastic.

7. NXT women’s: Bayley beat Emna. Bayley got THE pop of the night. Seeing her live, her charisma and ability to connect with fans is practically palpable.

8. Main, NXT title: Finn Balor beat Tyler Breeze. Good back and forth, with NXT & the overused Awesome chants late in the bout. After, Balor took selfies with Breeze’s phone.

Lighting got better later in the show. Overall, a fun event, definitely a thumbs up.

– WWE Champion/U.S. Champion Seth Rollins came out for a promo and said on Sunday he would be beating two first ballot Hall of Famers.  He pushed the main event on the show: he and Sheamus against Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose. Sheamus noted that he could cash in his briefcase at any time.

– Naomi & Sasha Banks b Paige & Becky Lynch when Naomi pinned Paige with an inside cradle.

– Brie Bella and Alicia Fox were backstage preparing for the “Bellabration” of Nikki Bella’s setting the record as the longest reigning Divas champion of all time.

– WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day cut a promo regarding their match with the Dudleys.

– Kofi Kingston b Devon Dudley

– Big Show b Cesaro with the knockout punch

– Kevin Owens b Dolph Ziggler via DQ when Ryback attacked Owens

WWE 9/13 Jonesboro, AR, house show results: Roman Reigns vs. Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose

WWE ran a pretty decent show in Jonesboro, AR tonight. Crowd not as large as the last time I came to town for a show back in 2012 for Punk v Ryback.

R-Truth over Bo Dallas

Truth won after countering a sunset flip reversal.

Curtis Axel and Damien Sandow over the Ascension

Axel hit the facebuster Viktor for the win By far the worst efforts I’ve ever seen from the face team. Big bummer when Axel hit what must be the worst dropkick in his career. Goofy match.

Natalya over Alicia Foxx

Long heat segment, Natalya never getting more than one offensive move in before getting cut off. Easily best match so far.

WWE Champion/U.S. Champion Seth Rollins over Dean Ambrose

Rollins won after hitting an exposed turnbuckle shot and a Pedigree. Great match, tons of moves, sick Falcon Arrow, Rollins argues with the crowd and a child in the front row over whether or not he’s a sissy.  

WWE Tag Team Champions New Day Big E and Xavier Woods over the Primetime Players

New Day won after Xavier Woods hits Titus O’Neil with a DDT and a big second rope legdrop. New Day were hilarious as always. Xavier Woods wore Big E’s singlet after claiming the airline lost his luggage. He adopted some of E’s moveset including a nice belly to belly, an attempt at the running splash, and the body block. Referred to himself as Big Woods.

Cesaro over Kevin Owens

Cesaro won after reversing a popup powerbomb into a hurricanrana. Smart match, not too crazy as to overshadow the main, but a back and forth with big moves and Owens preventing Cesaro from ever hitting the big swing.

Roman Reigns over Bray Wyatt in a streetfight

Lots of big shots back and forth at the beginning. Both guys were over and definitely brought a different feel to the main event. Bray Wyatt worked over Reigns with kendo stick shots and throwing a chair at his head. Hits a Uranage through a table, loses control to a series of Reigns punches and slaps before taking a powerbomb through a table. Luke Harper breaks up the pin, hits a big superkick, only to eat superman punches to the glee of the crowd.

Lights out, Braun Strowman appears and chokes out Reigns until chants for Ambrose lead to the save and comeback. Reigns throws Wyatt headfirst through a chair in the corner and follows up with a Spear while someone near by freaks out and screams “DESTROOOY HIMMMM.” Big spectacle match sends the crowd home happy.
