Update on Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s status for WWE WrestleMania 39

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided an update on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s status for WrestleMania 39.

Meltzer wrote that, unless Johnson changes his mind in the next few days, Johnson has indicated that he won’t have time to get into the kind of shape he feels he needs to be in for a main event match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. Meltzer noted that Johnson has kept the door open for something in the future.

“Of course it is a possibility that it’s something being kept a secret from everyone,” Meltzer added.

The report also states that, while Meltzer doesn’t know that Johnson has officially turned down wrestling at WrestleMania 39, the indication is that it’s considered less likely than a few months ago.

Those close to the situation have noted WWE coming out with new Rock merchandise, but said that is more related to the 30th anniversary of Raw. We were told that unless he changes his mind in the next few days, since a deadline for Mania plans is coming, that he’s indicated he won’t have time to get into the kind of shape he feels he needs to be in to do a main event match with Roman Reigns, but kept the door open for something in the future. Of course it is a possibility that it’s something being kept a secret from everyone. WWE has always had a backup direction this year given they were aware Johnson was not a sure thing for some time, and as time went on and he didn’t agree, felt the likelihood had lessened. I don’t know that he’s officially turned it down, but the only indication is that it was considered less likely than a few months ago. Johnson right now has different projects going on, most importantly the launching of the XFL which debuts the weekend of 2/18 and he will be very heavily involved with the promotion of the league. He had said he would need to have training time to be able to get in ring shape. So his decision comes down to his belief of having adequate time to prepare.

The WrestleMania 39 card will begin to take shape as this year’s Royal Rumble is held on Saturday, January 28.

WrestleMania 39 is taking place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2.

Aside from a six-second match against Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32, Johnson hasn’t wrestled since losing to John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania 29 in 2013.

Johnson appeared on CNBC this week and was asked about the possibility of WWE being sold. He wished Vince McMahon and WWE all the best during the process.

Update on John Cena’s WWE WrestleMania 39 status

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer gave an update on John Cena’s status for WrestleMania 39.

Meltzer noted that the belief is Cena will be working WrestleMania 39. Cena is working on his schedule to make sure he can, but the belief is he’ll get it done.

“The belief is that Cena will be working WrestleMania but what we were told is that he’s working on his schedule to make sure it works, but the belief is that he’ll get it done,” Meltzer wrote.

“Cena will be unavailable to WWE through most of February and March due to filming a movie outside the U.S. At one point he was talked about for a match with Austin Theory at WrestleMania but that was with Vince McMahon in charge.”

Cena will make his return to the ring as he teams with Kevin Owens against Roman Reigns & Sami Zayn on the final SmackDown of 2022. That episode is taking place at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida on Friday, December 30.

The tag match with Owens will be Cena’s only match of 2022. Last Friday, Cena appeared on SmackDown via video to set the match up.

WrestleMania 39 is being held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Saturday, April 1, 2023 and Sunday, April 2, 2023.

Logan Paul expresses interest in John Cena match at WWE WrestleMania 39

Logan Paul has expressed interest in facing John Cena at WrestleMania 39 next year.

On his podcast Impaulsive, Paul said that he already has texted Triple H about the possibility of facing John Cena. He also noted that WrestleMania 39 would be taking place during his birthday.

“After the Crown Jewel event, John Cena posted about me on his Instagram. And then I saw an article saying he’s looking for an opponent at WrestleMania,” Paul explained. “I favorited it, responded with “the eyes”. I mean, truthfully, I think me vs. John Cena would break the internet. I texted Triple H right away, ‘do you want to break the internet again?’ That’s a dream matchup, dude: at WrestleMania, in LA, on my birthday. Triple H, throw me a bone, give me a birthday present, let me take out John Cena. And that’d be crazy.”

“I think that’s the model I’m going to pitch to WWE, to give you an insight into what our meetings look like” he added. “This week, we’re meeting with them, I’m just going to be like, ‘Hey, this works for me. Put me up against the best y’all have, I’m gonna f****** deliver. You know that for a fact. Not only to put on an amazing match, but I’m going to put asses in seats and eyeballs glued to the television.”

Paul lost to Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel earlier this month in a match that had been for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. He reportedly injured his knee during the match and it currently isn’t clear when he’d be able to return.

WWE announces record-breaking first-day ticket sales for WrestleMania 39

WWE is touting record-breaking ticket sale numbers for WrestleMania 39.

After tickets went on sale to the general public last Friday, WWE issued a press release this morning announcing that WrestleMania 39 has set a record for first-day ticket sales. More than 90,000 tickets for the two-night event were sold within the first 24 hours, which WWE says is a 42 percent increase over first-day ticket sales for WrestleMania 38.

SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California is hosting WrestleMania 39 on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2, 2023. It will be the fourth straight year that WrestleMania has been held over two nights.

“WWE today announced a record for first-day ticket sales for WrestleMania 39 taking place at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles,” WWE wrote. “Over 90,000 tickets were sold within the first 24 hours – more than any event in WWE history and a 42% increase over first-day sales for WrestleMania 38 at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.”

Paul “Triple H” Levesque also addressed the ticket sales on WWE’s second quarter investors call this morning.

“In nearly 40 years, we have never sold that many WrestleMania tickets that fast,” Levesque said. “With those record numbers, we are tracking toward sell-outs with passionate fans at SoFi Stadium for both nights.”

Of the two-night WrestleManias that have taken place, this will be the second with full-capacity crowds.

WrestleMania 40 in 2024 will also be a two-night show. It’s been announced for Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Monday News Update

  • Bryan and I will be back tonight covering Raw and the latest wrestling news. We also have show we did last night with Kevin Kelly on the G-1 Climax tournament, which finishes up with shows Tuesday through Thursday at Budokan Hall.
  • WWE’s quarterly investors call will take place at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow Eastern time. Usually these dates are announced weeks ahead of time and are on Thursdays after the market closes. There have been a few tentative dates that weren’t announced that were moved as new things were found out regarding Vince McMahon. The early time and sudden announcement are likely due to wanting fewer people asking McMahon questions. However, the stock price remains strong for all the reasons we’ve written about since McMahon was ousted, at at $72.17 per share.
  • Both nights of WrestleMania are at about 49,000 tickets out after they went on sale to the public on Friday. That’s well above he pace of last year in Dallas. (thanks to Wrestle Tix)
  • Raw is tonight from Washington, DC. The only matches announced are Bobby Lashley vs. AJ Styles for the U.S. title and Asuka & Alexa Bliss vs. Doudrop & Nikki ASH in the women’s tag team tournament. We’re looking for reports from this show, with Main Event results and any dark matches to [email protected]
  • We’re also looking for dark match results from Friday’s Smackdown show in Raleigh, NC.
  • Today’s BTE more than strongly teased Kenny Omega as the Young Bucks partner in the six-man tag tournament match on Wednesday night in Charleston WV. That is what everyone expects. Matt calls someone up and asks if he’s ready and then they play the beginning of Omega’s music.
  • All four blocks in the G-1 are up for grabs tomorrow with the show from Budokan Hall that starts at 5 a.m. Eastern time. This is the match order
  • Will Ospreay vs. Juice Robinson – If Ospreay wins and Shingo Takagi loses, Ospreay wins D block
  • Shingo Takagi vs. El Phantasmo – If Takagi wins, he wins D block. If he and Ospreay both lose, there is a seven-way tie
  • Hirooki Goto vs. Evil – If Goto wins and Sabre loses, there is a three-way tie in C block
  • Tetsuya Naito vs Zack Sabre Jr. – If Sabre wins or draws, he wins the block. If Naito and Evil loses, Naito wins the block

  • A few notes on the Friday ratings. Smackdown at 1,927,000 viewers and 0.44, being down from usual is because it was moved out of its normal time slot in 12 percent of the country due to NFL preseason games airing on the local FOX station. So this number really means nothing.
  • For Rampage, its being way up (528,000/0.17) was because it had a lead-in that was 58 percent up from usual and the Bryan Danielson promo did well. they did maintain a number way above usual for the rest of the show but it declined each quarter.
  • With football coming, the pro wrestling finishes in the top five and top ten for the week are winding to a close in the fall.
  • AEW Dynamite will be preempted on 10/19 due to the TBS airing the American League championship series. There may be other preemptions in October. Smackdown may also be moved to FS 1 in October once or twice.
  • NXT Heatwave tomorrow night on USA
  • Bron Breakker vs. JD McDonagh for the NXT title
  • Mandy Rose vs. Zoey Stark for the NXT women’s title
  • Carmelo Hayes vs. Giovanni Vinci for the North American title

He was a top heel star as coach of the Texas Outlaws whose babyface turn in 1971 was particularly memorable and an angle copied over and over by the promotion.

Valerie Loureda on her first month training to be a WWE wrestler

Following her tryout during WrestleMania week in Dallas, female Bellator MMA fighter Valerie Loureda announced in late-June on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour that she had signed a multi-year WWE contract and was leaving fighting.

The prospect was in attendance at last week’s WWE WrestleMania 39 launch party in Inglewood, CA, at SoFi Stadium, and spoke to me about her experience with the company thus far, why she decided to pursue this career. and how her training at the Performance Center has gone just one month in.

Pro fighting vs. pro wrestling

“I feel like fighting is easier because when you go into a cage, you have one goal and that’s to win or hurt that person. And in WWE, there are so many things going on and you do have to be a true entertainer. For me, the difference is striking but not striking to hurt someone. There are little things like that, but truly I love it. I am truly in love with it. I feel like a white belt again. I am just embracing the process and just getting better every day.” 

Loureda wraps up her MMA career with a 4-1 record after last fighting in November 2021. 

Being the first Cuban-American woman to sign with WWE 

During her announcement, Loureda said she was the first Cuban-American woman to become a WWE superstar. Since she had already amassed a following in MMA, I asked her why she decided to switch gears and head to pro wrestling. 

“I became the first Cuban American woman in history to become a WWE superstar and, for me, that’s an honor. I come from a family of immigrants and being able to represent my culture and show the martial artist that I am and the entertainer that I am at the same time is a dream come true.” 

Loureda says she plans to bring a touch of her “Latina glamour” that she was known for in MMA. 

“I am trying to bring into the wrestling ring real fighting…MMA fighting with a touch of my Latina glamour that people knew of me in the MMA cage but really just adding my touch to this, making it mine but also showing that I am a true professional wrestler. I am going to be a great WWE superstar.” 

So far, she has only been training at the WWE Performance Center for the past four weeks. Although she’s been “training very hard,” she notes that she is still “very green” at this stage in her training. 

“I’ve been training very hard. I have just been learning from watching other girls and learning from them and developing in my career. I am still very green in my stage but soon I’ll know what ]I am doing and I’ll be out there in NXT.”

Friday News Update

  • WrestleMania tickets are now available to the public through Ticketmaster for the shows on 4/1 and 4/2 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA.
  • A number of markets will not air Smackdown live tonight due to NFL teams in he area having preseason games on the local FOX channel, so check your local guides to find out when the show will air. Also, when the fast nationals come up, it monitors all FOX stations meaning the markets that air much higher rated football will be added into the number, making it look like a monster rating. The actual number to take serious won’t be available until Monday.
  • Raleigh for Smackdown has a big advance with more than 8,000 tickets out. Announced for the show is a Liv Morgan/Shayna Baszler contract signing, Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah vs. Xia Li & Shotzi in the women’s tag team tournament and Gunther vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the IC title. 
  • AEW Rampage tonight at 10 p.m. on TNT has Sammy Guevara & Tay Melo defending the AAA mixed tag titles against Dante Martin & Skye Blue, Austin & Colten Gunn vs. Erick Redbeard & Danhausen, Sonny Kiss vs. Parker Boudreaux and Orange Cassidy vs. Ari Daivari. Bryan Danielson does an interview pushing Wednesday’s match with Daniel Garcia in a 2/3 fall bout, plus Hook also appears.

WWE holding WrestleMania 39 launch party this month

To celebrate tickets going on sale, WWE is holding a WrestleMania 39 launch party this month.

The WrestleMania 39 launch party will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Thursday, August 11. The party is free to attend and will feature in-ring matches and interviews with WWE wrestlers, celebrity appearances, and more.

Celebrities Snoop Dogg, JoJo Siwa, and Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias will be appearing at the launch party, along with Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, The Miz, Maryse, Bianca Belair, Liv Morgan, The Usos, Theory, The Street Profits, Alexa Bliss, Carmella, Corey Graves, Dominik Mysterio, and Ricochet being advertised to appear.

Fans who attend the launch party will be able to purchase WrestleMania 39 tickets before they go on sale to the general public. The general public on-sale starts on Friday, August 12.

WWE has also opened a mailing list for those interested in WrestleMania 39 ticket pre-sale information.

WrestleMania 39 is being held at SoFi Stadium on Saturday, April 1, 2023 and Sunday, April 2, 2023.

WWE announced today that its star-studded WrestleMania 39 Launch Party will take place next Thursday, August 11 at 7 pm PT from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The free admission WrestleMania Launch Party will feature live in-ring matches and interviews with WWE Superstars, celebrity appearances, official WWE merchandise and more. Attendees will receive a commemorative WrestleMania souvenir ticket while supplies last. The event will give fans an exclusive opportunity to purchase tickets to WrestleMania before they become available to the general public the following day.

The WrestleMania Launch Party will feature some of the hottest stars from the entertainment world including Snoop Dogg, JoJo Siwa, and Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias. WWE reveals WrestleMania 39 ticket on-sale date

WWE has revealed when fans will be able to purchase tickets to next year’s WrestleMania.

Tickets for WrestleMania 39 will go on sale to the general public at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, August 12. The two-night event is being held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Saturday, April 1, 2023 and Sunday, April 2, 2023.

Single and two-day combo tickets will be available to purchase through Ticketmaster.

Those interested in ticket pre-sale information can register for a mailing list that’s been opened by WWE.

Before tickets go on sale, WrestleMania Priority Pass premium packages will be available starting at noon Eastern time on Friday, July 22.

“WrestleMania Priority Passes give fans an opportunity to purchase ticket packages before they go on sale to the general public,” WWE wrote. “WrestleMania Priority Passes provide fans with unrivaled access to WWE like never before through immersive VIP experiences that include premier seating, a dedicated stadium entrance, premium hospitality offerings and meet-and-greets with WWE Superstars and Legends.”

WrestleMania 39 will be the fourth straight year that WrestleMania has been a two-night event. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year was the first time that a two-night WrestleMania was held with full-capacity crowds.

WWE is billing WrestleMania 39 as “WrestleMania Hollywood.”

WWE WrestleMania 39 to be held over two nights

For the fourth straight year, WWE WrestleMania will be held over two nights.

During Saturday’s first night of WrestleMania 38 in Dallas, Texas, it was announced that next year’s show will be held on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 at SoFi Stadium just outside Los Angeles, California.

As has been revealed previously, they are branding it as WrestleMania Hollywood.

The presale registration for tickets also launched Saturday night after the announcement.

WWE delved into their first two-night WrestleMania starting in 2020 in the pandemic era, holding matches in the now-Capitol Wrestling Center.

That continued in 2021 with their return to shows with live fans at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, and continues this weekend in Dallas.

As of now, no location for 2024 has been announced.

Saturday’s first night ended around midnight Eastern with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin winning his first match in 19 years, defeating Kevin Owens in a no holds barred street fight. WrestleMania continues Sunday with Universal Champion Roman Reigns vs. WWE Champion Brock Lesnar in a title unification bout.
