Show Recap —

Paul Heyman, Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa were shown arriving at TD Garden earlier today. (For our benefit, Heyman waited until after they got out of the private confines of their vehicle to speak to Jimmy.)

Heyman said Sami Zayn managed to escape them on Smackdown which meant he was here tonight. That led to a loud chant for Sami. Heyman said Sikoa would solve the Kevin Owens problem, while Jimmy would solve the Sami Zayn problem once and for all. Heyman called Roman Reigns after Uso and Sikoa left.

Kevin Patrick announced a sold out crowd tonight in Boston.

Kevin Owens defeated Solo Sikoa via disqualification (11:22)

Owens attacked Sikoa before the match began but Sikoa cut him off and sent him into the ring post. The referee started the match once they hit the ring where Owens tackled Sikoa. However, Sikoa cut him off again and took control. Owens came back with a clothesline, a senton and a clothesline outside the ring.

Jimmy Uso ran out to distract Owens, so Sikoa brought him down from the top rope with a slam and followed with a running hip attack. Sikoa hit another running hip attack, this time against the barricade, which led to break.

Sikoa hit a Samoan drop but Owens dodged a corner splash and hit DDT. Sikoa blocked a stunner before Owens knocked Jimmy off the apron.

The distraction didn’t help because Owens hit Sikoa with a superkick, cannonball and senton bomb. Owens made a cover but Jimmy attacked him for the DQ.

— The Bloodline attacked Owens after the match as the crowd chanted for Zayn.

They were going to put Owens through a table but Zayn sprinted out (without his music) and attacked both Bloodline members as the crowd loudly cheered him on. Zayn grabbed a chair but the Bloodline bailed through the crowd.

With Owens down in the corner, Zayn offered his hand. Owens rolled out of the ring instead and the crowd booed.

********

They aired a replay of Bobby Lashley’s encounter with Uncle Howdy on Smackdown.

Lashley cut a promo in the back. He was tired of playing Bray Wyatt’s kid games. He went to Smackdown to face him man-to-man, but Wyatt wasn’t a man because he sent a man in a mask instead. Lashley wondered what it would take to get Wyatt to face him. (Wyatt’s logo flashed repeatedly in the background as Lashley spoke.)

********

Byron Saxton interviewed Carmella. She planned on embarrassing Bianca Belair tonight and deserved to be added to the WrestleMania match after she wins. She talked about Adam Pearce’s incompetence and Chelsea Green showed up to agree with the sentiment. Green also agreed to accompany Carmella to ringside. They dismissed Saxton.

(Pearce was about to walk by them in the background by coincidence, but when he noticed who was there, he turned around and walked in the other direction.)

Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair defeated Carmella (w/ Chelsea Green) in a non-title match (8:58)

This actually went through a break after Carmella yanked Belair off the top rope. Belair countered Carmella a few times before hitting a backbreaker and moonsault. Green blatantly distracted the referee so Belair went after her but that allowed Carmella to hit a superkick for two.

Green seemed like she wanted to attack so Belair invited her into the ring and immediately tossed her out of it. Belair also chucked her into the timekeeper’s area. Carmella tried to catch her off guard using a cradle with her feet on the rope but Belair kicked out and hit KOD for the pinfall win.

— The heels attacked Belair post-match but stopped upon hearing Asuka’s music. Asuka went to blow mist on Carmella but she ducked and Green got misted instead. They bailed.

The crowd chanted for Asuka as she stared off with Belair.

********

Zayn found Owens in the back. Zayn told him that the Bloodline was too much for them as individuals. Zayn said this wasn’t a ploy to make everything okay between them again, he knew it would take more than this. But Owens had to listen to him when he said they have to fight the Bloodline together. Zayn knew how dangerous they were because he was part of the Bloodline.

Owens knew that already. He remembers it all very well and reminded Zayn what he did to him in this very arena (at Survivor Series). Owens made it clear: “I don’t want to do this with you.” Owens suggested Zayn go back to Roman Reigns. Either way, Owens didn’t care what Zayn did and told him to leave him out of it.

********

There was a Rhea Ripley video package.

[SECOND HOUR]

Miz TV — Seth Rollins and Logan Paul face-to-face

Miz rambled for a bit before introducing Logan Paul. Miz offered a handshake but Paul acted like he didn’t see it and posed on the turnbuckle. Seth Rollins entered before Miz could introduce him.

The crowd loudly sang Rollins’ music as Miz told them to stop. Rollins encouraged them to continue so they did. Paul told them that their segment had a time limit so they should shut up.

Rollins mockingly introduced Paul who got “Logan sucks” chants. Rollins introduced himself to Paul and Paul said he knew exactly who he was. Paul said Rollins was the guy who he dumped at the Royal Rumble and whose head he stomped in at Elimination Chamber.

Paul wondered what Rollins’ problem was. Perhaps it was because Paul was as good as Rollins in one year when it took Rollins 20 years. Paul said he worked smarter, not harder, and was on his way in while Rollins was on his way out. Paul said he would hate him too if he was Rollins. The crowd chanted “f—k you, Logan.”

Rollins said Paul forgot something: that he was the scum of the earth. Paul was a coward, a troll, a fraud, and a human dumpster fire. Rollins told him, “we don’t want you in our house.”

Rollins said he didn’t come here to talk, he came to get his pound of flesh. Rollins got ready to fight but Paul turned him down. Paul didn’t fight for free and certainly not in Boston. He wanted a bigger stage.

Miz said, as host of WrestleMania, he might be able to make a match between them. Rollins sarcastically asked him if that was true and chucked him out of the ring to go make it happen.

Paul kicked Rollins and tried a stomp but Rollins tackled him. Miz attacked Rollins from behind so Rollins superkicked him. The distraction allowed Paul to drop Rollins with a right hand. Paul told Rollins to let him know about Mania — after he wakes up. Paul ended with “bye, bye, bitch” (the same line Rollins used last week).

Paul was really good here.

********

Earlier today, Mustafa Ali was being annoying to Dolph Ziggler and let him know he got him a match tonight against Omos. Ali was in the crowd for the match, acting like a fan and holding up a “We love Ziggler” sign.

Omos (w/MVP) defeated Dolph Ziggler (0:49)

Omos won immediately with a tree slam.

— MVP said Omos would tame the beast Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania.

********

Maxxine Dupri and Maximum Male Models were backstage fawning over someone off-camera. Baron Corbin showed up and thought they were talking about him. He appreciated the kind words after the hard luck he’s had lately.

They let him know that they were talking about Otis (who was doing poses with Chad Gable). Corbin wondered what Otis had that he didn’t. Mansoor said ‘hair’ for one thing. Dupri said she’d consider taking on Corbin as a client if he could get rid of Gable. Corbin happily accepted.

(In previous weeks, Mansoor and Mace did not seem on board with Otis but they were completely into him here.)

********

Heyman hyped up Jimmy Uso. He was confident that Jimmy would be the one to take out Zayn so Reigns wouldn’t even have to hear the name “Sami” again. Heyman didn’t let Jimmy forget that it was still his duty to bring Jey back into the Bloodline.

Johnny Gargano (w/Dexter Lumis) defeated Finn Bálor (w/Rhea Ripley & Judgment Day) (9:33)

Gargano hit a dive but Bálor was in control following a break. Gargano fired back and hit a spear for two. Bálor hit a slingblade but Gargano came back with consecutive superkicks for two.

Dominik Mysterio tried to interfere as Ripley distracted the ref but Gargano wiped him out with a dive. Damian Priest followed Gargano around ringside until Bálor cut him off in the ring with a foot stomp and dropkick.

Bálor went to the top but froze when Edge’s music hit. Priest and Ripley went to the stage to cut off Edge but he entered through the crowd instead and shoved Bálor off the top. Gargano followed with One Final Beat for the pinfall win.

— Priest tried to go after Edge but Lumis knocked him down. Edge hit Bálor with a spear and let him know “this isn’t over.”

The crowd was quiet for the match but was happy to see Edge.

********

There was a video recap of the Cody Rhodes/Roman Reigns segment from Smackdown.

They announced King and Queen of the Ring in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on May 27.

Saxton caught up with Edge for an interview. Edge said he cost Bálor a match he never should have lost — no disrespect to Gargano — because Bálor cost him a match he never should have lost (against Austin Theory). Edge informed Bálor that he would be alone in the ring next week and invited him there to see what kind of man he was.

********

Piper Niven defeated Nikki Cross (0:56)

They said this was a first-time-ever match.

Cross acted crazy and attacked Niven before the match. Niven gave the ref the go-ahead to start the match and Cross hit a flying crossbody. Niven regrouped outside the ring, fended off Cross’ offence and hit a Black Hole Slam (which they completely mistimed) for the pinfall win. Niven had a busted lip, likely due to Cross’ wild pre-match attack.

********

Rick Boogs was trying to deadlift an 18-wheeler backstage when he was approached by Elias. Elias had more advice for Boogs and suggested he go up to Bronson Reed and demand a match. Boogs played along and walked up to a nearby Reed. Reed immediately went up to Elias and accepted his challenge. Elias was baffled at Boogs because he wanted Boogs to have the match. Boogs acted dumb and said he just did what Elias asked.

[THIRD HOUR]

Becky G will perform America the Beautiful on night one of WrestleMania.

John Cena / Austin Theory segment

Cena entered to a big reaction and he was emotional at the response. Cena hit the ring but Austin Theory entered before he could say or do anything.

Theory said he remembered watching WWE with his mom and said Cena inspired him to become a WWE superstar. Theory had a gift for Cena, something so big it would eclipse any movie role.

Theory’s gift was a United States title match between them at WrestleMania.

Cena said no. Cena couldn’t accept his gift because he didn’t earn the right to give it. Cena has been watching Theory and he just didn’t care and the crowd didn’t care about him, either. “We don’t believe you, because you don’t believe you.” Cena said Theory had no heart.

Cena wasn’t trying to talk down to Theory because he knew where he was coming from. Cena pointed out a fan’s sign that said Theory was just a Cena-wannabe.

Cena was his ghost of Christmas future and said Theory was at the “ruthless aggression” phase of his career. But that phase of Cena’s career almost got him fired because he didn’t believe in himself. “You’re a pair of trunks away from being a jabroni.”

Cena said Theory name was appropriate, “because that’s exactly what you are — a theory.” In theory, he should be great. In theory, he was everything an executive would look for. In theory, everyone should be there to see him. But still, no one cared and he was wasting their time.

Cena and Boston had a gift for Theory: shut up and walk away and they would let him leave in one piece. The crowd chanted for Cena.

Theory responded, “I ain’t going anywhere just like that bald spot on your head ain’t going anywhere.” That got a good reaction. (Cena took his hat off for a moment to reveal his bald spot.)

Theory pointed out Cena’s “Never Give Up” shirt and wondered if Cena was giving up. It was right what they say: never meet your heroes because they always disappoint.

Cena told Theory he’d rather be going bald than have them pipe in crowd noise because nobody cared about his matches. Cena called him a dumb son-of-a-bitch. He didn’t say no because he was giving up, he said no because he was trying to save Theory because Theory wasn’t ready.

If Cena won at WrestleMania, Theory would lose everything. If Theory won, he would still lose everything. If he won, he would have to go out there alone every night and prove it to the fans but Theory was full of crap.

However, Theory left him no choice. Cena asked the crowd if they wanted to see him against Theory at Mania. They cheered and chanted “yes.”

Cena said he didn’t care about Theory but he could never give up on the fans. Cena said Theory just made the biggest mistake of his life because their match for the United States title was now official. Cena wished him luck because he didn’t have the brains, the guts, or the balls. Cena smacked him low before leaving.

Cena went to the stage and said the fans deserved to see someone who did earn their WrestleMania moment: he introduced Cody Rhodes. They hugged.

********

Cathy Kelley interviewed Zayn. Zayn noted that Jimmy Uso was the one who always had his back and now he was the one whose task it was to end him. Zayn looked at the camera and warned his dawg that tonight would not be his night.

********

Chad Gable (w/Otis) defeated Baron Corbin (2:12)

Corbin was bragging so Gable picked his ankle and applied an ankle lock for the submission win. (The crowd chanted “we want Otis” earlier in the match.) Corey Graves mentioned that this ended Gable’s losing skid.

********

There was a Top Gun spoof with Miz and Maryse.

Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul was made official for Mania.

Becky Lynch, Lita and Trish Stratus segment

Lynch and Lita entered with their tag team title belts and they spoke about their title win. Lita said IYO SKY and Dakota Kai didn’t make it easy, but it was worth it. Lita thanked Lynch for giving her the opportunity to fight for the belts.

Lita had one more person to thank and Trish Stratus entered. Stratus said she would always have Lita’s back and was happy to see her and Lynch beat Damage CTRL. Stratus recalled warning Bayley months ago in Toronto.

Damage CTRL interrupted. Bayley said Lita and Trish were the reasons they were wrestlers but Damage CTRL could also be the reason they never wrestle again.

Stratus challenged them to a six-woman match at WrestleMania and Bayley quickly accepted.

SKY and Kai seemed surprised. They turned around to attack the babyfaces but were sent out of the ring. Bayley tried to attack Lynch but they got rid of her too.

********

Next week on Raw:

  • Edge calls out Finn Bálor
  • Elias vs. Bronson Reed
  • Bianca Belair vs. Chelsea Green (non-title)

********

They went to break, plugged NXT, did the entrances, and went to break again 40 seconds into the match. It felt like they were back for two minutes.

Sami Zayn defeated Tag Team Champion Jimmy Uso (w/Solo Sikoa) (10:35)

(Zayn got the win but this was all about the post-match angle.)

After the early break, Zayn booted Jimmy and hit a tornado DDT for two, followed by a flying crossbody for two. Jimmy tossed Zayn from the ring and tried distracting the ref but the ref caught Sikoa setting up for a Samoan spike so he ejected him from ringside. Zayn followed with a Blue Thunder Bomb for two which led to another break six minutes into the match. When they returned, Zayn came off the top but Jimmy caught him with a superkick.

The fans began cheering because Jey Uso appeared in the crowd. Jey ran down and climbed onto the announce table.

Jey seemed encouraging Jimmy but the distraction allowed Zayn to roll him up for the pinfall win. Zayn was elated with the win while Jimmy was distraught.

— Jey entered the ring. Jey held Jimmy by his shirt and contemplated his next step for a while. Jey left his brother in the ring and faced off with Zayn at ringside.

Jey told Zayn he trusted him and gave him a hug which got an insane crowd pop. The crowd chanted “Ucey” as Jimmy looked dejected. Jey and Sami held up their fingers as the crowd “holy shit.”

Jey then superkicked Sami which also got a massive reaction. Jey screamed at Sami that this was about family. “You thought I was going to choose you?!” The Usos hammered away on Sami and were soon joined by Sikoa.

Cody Rhodes ran down (to his music) and the Bloodline backed off as he checked on Zayn.

This was pretty incredible.

Show Recap —

There was a long recap of the Elimination Chamber main event and aftermath.

Sami Zayn kicked off Raw. The crowd sang his song and gave him a long ovation that went on for a few minutes. Zayn could only say, “wow” to the reaction and they kept going.

Zayn said the one feeling that’s been most prevalent the past few days was gratitude and the fans had no idea how much their reaction meant to him. The crowd chanted “you deserve it” and Zayn soaked it in.

Zayn came so close to putting a bow on a storybook ending in front of his friends and family but he felt a lot of guilt like he let a lot of people down. The crowd seemed genuinely upset to hear that. Zayn let them know that the story wasn’t over but we were entering the final chapter.

The final chapter wasn’t just about him. He called out Kevin Owens.

Owens entered. Zayn wanted to say ‘thank you’ and ‘sorry’ but he knew that they were beyond the point of words. He knew how much they put Owens through but he also knew how much Owens wanted to take down the Bloodline. Zayn would stop at nothing to make sure that Roman Reigns and the Bloodline came crumbling down.

Owens couldn’t do it alone and Zayn couldn’t do it alone. There was one way they could get it done and that was if they did it together. The crowd chanted “Yes.”

Owens said he didn’t want an apology or his gratitude. He didn’t attack the Bloodline on Saturday for Zayn — he did it for himself and his family. Owens’ family was in the front row but they weren’t there at the Royal Rumble when the Bloodline beat the hell out of him while Zayn just stood by and watched.

Owens also did it for Zayn’s family so they didn’t have to watch Zayn get beaten down too. Owens has been fighting the Bloodline alone for months and would continue alone. Owens said if Zayn wanted help against the Bloodline he should just ask his buddy Jey.

Owens walked off and the crowd booed.

— After the announcers ran down tonight’s card, Zayn saluted the crowd one last time when he was suddenly attacked from behind by Baron Corbin. They abruptly went to break.

********

After a break, Corbin was cutting a promo on Zayn as officials helped him to his feet. Corbin said he called it when he said Reigns would embarrass Zayn in front of his friends and family. Zayn was pissed and had to be held back by officials. Corbin called Zayn a failure whose story was over after he let down all of Canada.

Even Adam Pearce thought that was too much so he stepped aside and let Zayn go after Corbin. Zayn decked Corbin and they made a match official.

Sami Zayn defeated Baron Corbin (9:01)

Corbin worked over Zayn’s bruised back through a break. Zayn came back with a tornado DDT for two followed by a flip dive. Zayn went for the Helluva Kick but Corbin turned him inside out with a clothesline and hit Deep Six for a nearfall. Corbin charged at Zayn in the corner but Zayn came right back with a Helluva Kick for the pinfall win.

********

Rhea Ripley/Dominik Mysterio interview

Byron Saxton did a sit-down interview with Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio. Ripley said she had unfinished business with Beth Phoenix but she was focused on WrestleMania and didn’t want to talk about Phoenix anymore. Saxton was going to press her on Phoenix but Dom told him to move on or else he’d show him what he did to people in prison who talked too much.

Saxton asked about Charlotte Flair. Ripley said Charlotte kept talking about three years ago because she knew that Ripely was the best woman in the company. Ripley said Charlotte’s empire would come crumbling down when she becomes champion at Mania.

They mentioned that Ripley would have a face-to-face with Charlotte on Smackdown. Dom said his deadbeat dad had a match scheduled and decided he would join Ripley on Friday.

********

Cathy Kelley interviewed Austin Theory. Theory admitted he was banged up from the Chamber but he was here as always because he was the champ. He beat five of the best in WWE including Seth Rollins who everyone thought would win.

Theory was annoyed that John Cena was getting headlines over him for his upcoming appearance in two weeks. Theory looked forward to beating a legend like Edge in “crappy Canada.”

********

Mustafa Ali defeated Dolph Ziggler (2:16)

Ali did a cool counter to the Fameasser where he basically did a handstand to block it and followed with a crucifix cover for the pinfall win.

(Ali was being a phoney babyface, glad-handing fans on the way to the ring, and he celebrated the win like it was a huge deal.)

********

Kelley interviewed Miz and Maryse who were making out backstage. Maryse had an anniversary gift (in an envelope) for Miz. Whatever it was seemed to be a big deal to Miz but he won’t reveal what it is until next week. Kelley kept trying to ask him about facing Rollins tonight. Miz was annoyed by Kelley but was glad to see Rollins get bested by his former protegee Logan Paul.

[SECOND HOUR]

Cody Rhodes/Paul Heyman segment

Rhodes only said one word before Paul Heyman interrupted on the big screen. Heyman wore a neck brace and had both WWE title belts. Rhodes invited Heyman to the ring. Heyman declined because he was attacked by a maniac and took a dig at the Canadian healthcare system.

Heyman had a simple statement for Rhodes: “You can’t beat Roman Reigns.” However, Heyman wanted Rhodes to imagine what his life would be like if he did beat Reigns.

Heyman basically said Reigns had him doing his business but Rhodes didn’t. Heyman spoke about Reigns’ busy schedule as champion and all the time spent away from home defending the title, doing promotional work, etc. The crowd booed as he droned on.

Heyman mentioned Dustin once saying that Dusty was never at home and when he was at home, it didn’t feel like he was. Heyman said Reigns was a happily married man and seemed to suggest that Rhodes (and his wife) wouldn’t be if he won the title at Mania.

Rhodes looked into the camera and told Reigns not to send Heyman again. Rhodes said they haven’t come face to face yet but they will soon. Rhodes called Reigns the best Universal Champion in history and the best current champion in the business but Rhodes had to finish the story. Rhodes had to beat Reigns at WrestleMania.

********

Asuka defeated Nikki Cross (9:29)

Bianca Belair’s music hit as soon as the match started and she marched down to ringside to watch.

They had a competitive match which probably wasn’t for the best. Asuka kicked the ring post after Cross ducked and Cross followed with a reverse DDT on the apron. After a break, Asuka fought back with strikes and three straight German suplexes for a two count. Cross got some more offence in but Asuka won by submission with her new finisher.

— Belair entered the ring for a staredown after the match. It seemed to be a friendly exchange until Asuka began spitting up a blue substance. Asuka laughed and Belair looked weirded out.

********

Kelley asked Carmella if she had a new game plan for making it to Mania. Carmella said no because it’s only been 48 hours since Elimination Chamber. Carmella did want to give Asuka a receipt. After Carmella left, Kelly caught up to Seth Rollins who was nearby.

Rollins warned Logan Paul that there was another side to him. “I’m going to find Logan Paul and I’m going to hurt Logan Paul.” Paul wasn’t there tonight so Rollins looked forward to making Miz suffer in his place.

********

MVP called Brock Lesnar a coward. Lesnar knew he couldn’t escape the Hurt Lock so he got himself disqualified. MVP said Omos was issuing Lesnar a challenge to face him at WrestleMania. He invited Lesnar to show up next week to accept.

Seth Rollins defeated The Miz via referee stoppage (11:07)

As with the Zayn/Corbin and Asuka/Cross matches, the heel took control ahead of an early commercial break. Rollins made a comeback but Miz kicked his leg out of his leg and hit a Codebreaker for two. They traded counters until Miz hit Bryan Danielson’s running knee strike for two. Miz hit Yes kicks but Rollins came back with strikes and curb stomp.

The crowd chanted “one more time” so Rollins stomped him again. The crowd chanted it again and the referee told him not to do it but Rollins stomped him again anyway. Rollins was declared the winner via ref stoppage.

********

Adam Pearce agreed to give Carmella a match against Asuka. Pearce received a phone call from Chelsea Green who said their travel department sent her to Ottawa, Illinois, not Ottawa, Canada. Pearce smirked and claimed he didn’t know how that happened. She complained until he hung up on her.

Chad Gable was practicing his modelling in front of a mirror with Otis. Bronson Reed asked him if that’s how he prepared for a match. Gable said he was on the verge of a big modelling gig. Reed threatened to put him in a full-body cask so Otis got in his face. Reed chuckled and left.

[THIRD HOUR]

Ding Dong, Hello (Bayley’s talk show)

Bayley said it was Family Day in Canada (well, most of Canada) so she wanted to spend it with her family — Dakota Kai and IYO SKY. Kai bragged about all of the people they’ve beaten to retain the tag titles.

Becky Lynch interrupted. She said it’s been so long since they’ve defended the titles that they were getting dusty. Lynch said they weren’t going to coast into WrestleMania without defending the titles first and Lynch wanted the titles. Bayley said Lynch didn’t have any friends to team with.

Lita entered and joined Lynch. Bayley said they didn’t do anything to deserve a title match. Lynch said she and Lita were two of the best ever and that was enough.

They argued with Bayley until they persuaded her into accepting the match on behalf of Kai and SKY, which they didn’t seem to appreciate. Lynch and Lita grabbed the title belts and posed with them before forcefully handing them back.

********

Saxton tried interviewing Candice LeRae about Johnny Gargano but before she could say much, she approached Nikki Cross who was nearby. LeRae wanted answers from her. Cross whispered something to LeRae and scampered off. LeRae informed Saxton that Cross said all her friends were gone and she was lonely.

LeRae also let Saxton know that Gargano would be back soon.

********

Bronson Reed defeated Chad Gable (w/Otis) (3:15)

They gave Gable moments to shine, notably when he gave Reed a German suplex. However, Gable was distracted because Otis was busy talking to Maxxine Dupri. Reed gave Gable a power slam and Tsunami for the pinfall win.

********

Elias was in the ring and had a message for Rick Boogs. This was the time of year when stars were made and there was no bigger star than Elias. He wanted to know who wanted to talk with Elias.

Bobby Lashley entered, attacked Elias, hit a spear and made him tap out to the Hurt Lock.

Lashley said everyone had a plan until they get put in the Hurt Lock. Lesnar panicked when he got put in the Hurt Lock and he had to use a low blow. Lashley said nobody could break the Hurt Lock — not Lesnar, not Bray Wyatt, not Elias. Lashley issued a warning to everyone in the back.

********

Next week on Raw:

  • Dakota Kai & IYO SKY vs. Becky Lynch & Lita – Women’s Tag Titles
  • Candice LeRae vs. Piper Niven
  • Asuka vs. Carmella
  • Brock Lesnar responds to Omos’ challenge
  • Miz TV

********

Edge interview

Saxton interviewed Edge. Edge was happy that Judgment Day was behind him and said Beth Phoenix was back at home with their girls. Edge could now focus on the goals that he set when he first returned.

Edge mentioned Theory’s “forever reign” but he warned Theory that nothing was forever and he knew firsthand how quickly things could be taken away. Edge couldn’t wait to knock the duckface off of Theory’s overly manscaped head.

Edge said his second WWE match was in Ottawa in 1997 and he hasn’t wrestled there in 18 years. He said it would feel pretty damn good to win the title in Ottawa and walk into WrestleMania as the United States Champion. “Never say never.”

********

Kevin Patrick mentioned that Edge beat Kurt Angle for the US title back in 2001 when Austin Theory was 4 years old.

Austin Theory defeated Edge to retain the United States Championship (18:17)

Edge outwrestled and outsmarted Theory early on and held control through an early commercial break. Theory hit a clothesline to take over and applied a chin lock. The crowd chanted “let’s go Edge” as Theory cut off a comeback attempt and applied a chin lock again. Theory hit a rolling dropkick for two which led to another break.

Theory tried a superplex but Edge dropped him and hit a flying crossbody. Edge followed with clotheslines, a flapjack and an Edge-o-matic for two. Theory tried the rolling dropkick again but Edge countered into a powerbomb for two.

Theory leaped over a spear attempt but Edge landed on his feet when Theory tried a monkey flip. Edge applied a crossface but Theory got a rope break. Theory tried a cover with his feet on the middle rope but the ref caught him.

Theory tried an A-Town Down but Edge reversed into an Edgecution DDT for a nearfall.

Edge set up for a spear but stopped to fend off Finn Bálor who ran to ringside. Theory tried to catch Edge off guard with the distraction but Edge countered into a schoolboy for a nearfall.

With the ref’s back turned, Bálor caught Edge with a kick to the head and Theory hit A-Town Down for the pinfall win. Theory retains. The crowd was deflated by the finish.

— After the match, Bálor attacked Edge and hit him with the Coup de Grace three straight times. The crowd booed as the show went off the air.

Show Recap —

The announcers ran down tonight’s show as Seth Rollins entered for the opening match. They’ve added Rey Mysterio and Matt Riddle against Finn Bálor and Damian Priest to the show.

Bobby Lashley defeated Seth Rollins to retain the United States Championship (20:04)

Rollins tried a curb stomp early on but Lashley was too strong and just didn’t budge. Lashley ran him over outside the ring leading to break three minutes in.

Rollins took control during the break after Lashley ran shoulder-first into the ring post and Rollins worked over the arm and shoulder. Rollins hit consecutive suicide dives but Lashley hoisted him up moments later and drove him into the ring post leading to another break.

Lashley hit a Dominator for two and a flatliner for two. Lashley tried for a superplex but Rollins raked his eyes and hit a buckle bomb followed by a frog splash for two. Rollins applied a crossface to no avail and Lashley followed with a powerslam.

Lashley went for a spear but Rollins leapt up and countered it into a Pedigree for a nearfall. Lashley avoided a Phoenix Splash and a stomp before applying the Hurt Lock. Rollins countered into a cradle for two but Lashley held on to the hold.

The referee was knocked over briefly so Rollins hit a low blow. Matt Riddle entered to his music and he ran down to ringside. He stopped there but the distraction allowed Lashley to hit a spear for the pinfall win. Good match and the crowd was into it.

********

Damage CTRL was shown arriving in a white Chrysler 300 limousine.

The announcers plugged Survivor Series War Games.

Damage CTRL Tag Team Championship Celebration

Bayley, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY entered in a golf cart. They got a fireworks display and streams filled the ring.

Bayley mentioned being back in her hometown but brushed that off and put over the new champs. The crowd booed Bayley before she could even make fun of the San Jose Sharks for not being able to win anything for them.

SKY said they were in control now and Kai said the division belonged to them. Kai said Asuka used to be a warrior and Alexa Bliss walked around like she had a lobotomy. Kai claimed Bianca Belair had been coasting and Bayley reminded her what it was like to lose.

Belair, Asuka and Bliss interrupted. Belair wanted them to celebrate their win but got tired of hearing them run their mouths and wanted to teach them some respect.

Bayley ran them down until Bliss threatened her. Bayley called Bliss a shell of her former self so Bliss challenged her to a match tonight. Bayley tried to go after her but she ran right into a forearm by Bliss. The heels bailed.

********

Austin Theory was shown warming up in the back. There was a QR code behind him with the words “Come With Me” over it.

Kevin Owens defeated Austin Theory (12:51)

Theory attacked Owens during his entrance and tossed him into the barricade. Owens laughed at the referee for asking him if he wanted to fight and told him to ring the bell.

Owens was in control until Theory gave him a neckbreaker off the apron to the outside which led to break two minutes in. They wrestled back and forth after the break. Theory blocked both a powerbomb and stunner attempt but Owens hit a superkick and Swanton Bomb for two.

[SECOND HOUR]

They battled on the top rope until Owens missed a double jump moonsault and Theory hit a rolling neckbreaker for two. Theory followed with another neckbreaker for two.

Johnny Gargano appeared at ringside holding Theory’s MITB briefcase. Theory was distracted and ran right into an Owens’ superkick. Owens followed with a cannonball and pop-up powerbomb for the pinfall win.

The finish was almost identical to the opener. (The crowd was into this too and they liked Owens.)

— After the match, Gargano dropped the briefcase on Theory. The crowd chanted, “Johnny.”

********

Kevin Patrick asked Riddle about costing Rollins a chance at the US title. Riddle said he gave Rollins some payback and would hunt him down every night until he got a rematch. He looked forward to helping Rey Mysterio get vengeance tonight. He said Finn Bálor and Damian Priest used to be cool but now they looked like the goth kids from South Park.

********

San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle was shown at ringside.

There was a video package for Roman Reigns vs. Logan Paul.

*******

Ridge Holland and Butch entered the ring. Holland said he and the “bruiser” would win the tag titles on Smackdown and Sheamus was already planning their victory party.

The Street Profits interrupted. Montez Ford said the Brawling Brutes might have beaten a bunch of teams on Friday to earn their title shot but the Brutes didn’t beat them. Butch whipped his jacket at Angelo Dawkins so Ford told him to settle his butch-ass down. Ford challenged them to a match and the Brutes seemed ready to go.

The Brawling Brutes defeated The Street Profits (14:39)

Holland and Butch did a double-team version of Sheamus’ Beats of the Bodhran on Ford who looked like he’d rather be doing anything else in that moment.

The Brutes worked over Ford through a break until he made a hot tag to Dawkins who hit Holland with clotheslines, a spinning back elbow, spinning Stinger splash, enziguri and Silencer for two. Butch made a blind tag and kicked Dawkins in the mouth but Ford broke up the cover.

Butch applied a triangle choke but Dawkins hoisted him up into position for Ford and they hit a double-team blockbuster which really popped the crowd. Dawkins sent Holland out of the ring with a running shoulder tackle and Ford followed with a flip dive on both opponents.

The Profits tried a double-team move but Butch wrenched Ford’s fingers which caused him to fall to the outside. Holland then gave Dawkins a powerslam after Butch kicked him in the head for the pinfall win.

********

Sarah Schreiber interviewed Rey Mysterio. Rey wished he knew what Dominik was feeling because he could have pretended Judgment Day from warping his mind. He said Edge was out but he would be back before long.

Rey looked into the camera and told Dom that everything he did was for him. He wanted Dom to have the life he never did and to give him a chance to carry on the Mysterio legacy — if he wanted to. Rey was down but Riddle approached to cheer him up.

********

Chad Gable and Otis warned Gargano that Theory would always have the numbers game over him because they had his back. Owens showed up and informed Alpha Academy that he had Gargano’s back.

Gable challenged them to a tag match next week. Owens was happy to accept because he enjoyed beating up Gable. He answered Gable’s challenge a few weeks ago in Toronto, Canada — his home country — and they’d be in Edmonton, Canada next week. Gable tried to push the match to Minnesota in two weeks but Owens told him it was too late.

Gable was about to ‘shoosh’ them but Gargano beat him to it. (Owens and Gable were great here as usual.)

********

Judgment Day promo

Rhea Ripley said they took out everyone in front of them last week because they run Monday Night Raw. Nobody would stop them now that they had Dominik who was all man now. Bálor called Dom a brave man who stood up to his father.

Priest said Dom no longer stood in anybody’s shadow and proved that by facing Edge one-on-one last week. Now Dom was standing with them, while Edge wasn’t standing at all. Ripley told Dom, “Papi is very proud of you.”

Dom grabbed a mic but the crowd loudly booed before he could speak. The other members of Judgment Day told the crowd to shut up but they just got louder.

Dom called Judgment Day his real family. (Dom seemed delighted by the amount of heat he was getting.) Judgment Day posed for a family photo. Bálor tried to keep talking but was interrupted by Riddle’s music.

[THIRD HOUR]

Finn Bálor & Damian Priest (w/Rhea Ripley & Dominik Mysterio) defeated Rey Mysterio & Matt Riddle (17:05)

They worked over Rey until he made a tag to Riddle but his comeback was cut off when Priest chokeslammed him onto the ring apron.

After a break, Ripley gave Riddle a back suplex outside the ring. Riddle eventually gave Priest a bro-to-sleep and Rey made the hot tag. Rey hit Bálor with a low dropkick, seated senton, and springboard crossbody for two. Priest saved Bálor from a 619 so Riddle hit him with a PK and took him out with a dive.

Rey gave Bálor a 619 and went to the top as Ripley distracted the referee. Rollins attacked Riddle but Rey chased him away with a chair.

Dom dared Rey to him with the chair and the crowd wanted him to do it too. Rey put the chair down and went back into the ring but walked into a slingblade by Bálor. Priest gave Rey a chokeslam and Bálor finished him off with a Coup de Grâce for the pinfall win.

********

Rollins and Riddle were in the middle of a pull-apart brawl backstage after a break. Officials managed to separate them as they screamed at each other. Rollins told Riddle he had his rematch — whenever and wherever he wanted. Riddle challenged him to a fight pit match at Extreme Rules. Rollins accepted.

(Jimmy Smith said this was a dangerous match for Rollins to take because Riddle “fought” for a living. Don’t they both fight for a living?)

********

Miz TV with Miz and Tommaso Ciampa

Miz was pissed about Dexter Lumis and called him out. Lumis didn’t show so Miz kept rambling. What he couldn’t see was a knife cutting its way through the canvas from underneath the ring.

Lumis popped out and tried to pull Miz under the ring. Ciampa got in the way and hit Lumis in the head with a microphone, knocking him back down into the black hole. As Miz looked on cautiously, Lumis’ head popped out again. Miz and Ciampa scrambled out of the ring.

Finn Bálor/AJ Styles segment

Kevin Patrick interviewed Judgment Day. Ripley said it was time to celebrate. Dominik feigned concern for his dad before he started laughing. Dom was ready for one of Priest’s infamous parties.

As they left, they stopped upon seeing AJ Styles. Bálor told them he would deal with this alone.

Bálor asked Styles if he was ducking him because they haven’t spoken in weeks. Styles said they haven’t spoken since Bálor joined Judgment Day and turned his back on him. Bálor said he was in Judgment Day but he never turned on Styles and he always had his back.

Styles wasn’t interested in turning his back on the people he cared about like Dominik did and wanted no part of Judgment Day.

Bálor asked Styles if he was looking for a fight and they got in each other’s faces. Bálor quickly laughed that off and gave Styles a hug because they were boys. Bálor held up the ‘too sweet’ sign and said the offer was still standing.

********

Bayley (w/Tag Team Champions Dakota Kai & IYO SKY) defeated Alexa Bliss (w/Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair & Asuka) (15:09)

Byron Saxton reminded us that Bliss beat Bayley in this building five years ago to win her first Women’s title. Corey Graves was still hammering home the point that Bliss isn’t as good as she used to be (as he’s been doing for months).

Bayley targetted Bliss’ leg and tried using the announce table but Bliss fought her off and hit a dive off the table. Bayley continued to target the leg after a break until they traded cradles for a series of two counts. Bayley hit Bayley-to-belly for two and the crowd did dueling chants of “let’s go, Bayley,” and “Bayley sucks.”

Bliss blocked a middle rope belly-to-belly and hit a code red for two. Bayley tried a cover with her feet on the middle rope but Belair pushed her off. That led to a brawl between the four women outside the ring.

This led to yet another distraction finish. Bliss went to the top but Kai distracted the ref as SKY knocked her down. Bayley then hit Rose Plant (headlock driver) for the pinfall win.

— Damage CTRL laid out Bliss and Asuka after the match. Belair tried to make the save but they laid her out too and Bayley gave her a Rose Plant.

Bayley told Belair she gets what she wants, when she wants and challenged her to a title match at Extreme Rules.

WWE Raw live results: Edge vs. Dominik Mysterio

Date: September 12, 2022
Location: Moda Center in Portland, OR

Show Recap —

The Raw intro and fireworks kicked things off. (Brock Lesnar, Becky Lynch, Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton are among those featured in the opening.)

Seth Rollins entered. The crowd chanted his song. Rollins bragged about beating Matt Riddle and about the Cardiff crowd singing his song. Despite Riddle’s request, Rollins was not interested in a rematch. As Rollins pondered what was next, the crowd chanted “rematch.” Rollins said it has been far too long since he held championship gold.

Riddle interrupted. He charged into the ring and attacked Rollins, dumping him over the top rope. They briefly brawled in the crowd until Rollins managed to escape to the back.

Before Riddle could go after him, Finn Bálor and Damian Priest entered to their music. Riddle was ready for a fight but they told him to relax.

Priest offered Riddle a spot in Judgment Day. Priest said it wasn’t long ago that they were all in the same situation, superstars on the rise with something, or someone, holding them back. Priest said there was no holding them back now and Bálor mentioned how much Dominik has grown already.

Riddle acknowledged that he and Priest went back a long time but he was focused on Rollins right now. He turned them down. Bálor said laws were a little relaxed in Portland so Riddle’s head must be cloudy. The crowd cheered. Bálor said Riddle better join or else.

Riddle attacked Bálor and knocked Priest over the top rope. Commercial break.

********

Finn Bálor (w/Damian Priest) defeated Matt Riddle (approx. 13:32)

The match was underway after the break. This was only the second-ever match between these two.

Bálor was in control and remained in control thanks to a distraction by Priest. Bálor hit a headlock elbow drop onto the ring apron which led to break. Riddle came back with a fisherman’s suplex, Pelé kick, forearm strikes, exploder suplex, PK and a springboard dive (which also took out Priest). Riddle went to the top but Priest distracted him again which allowed Bálor to hit another headlock elbow drop.

Rey Mysterio flew in from out of nowhere and attacked Priest through the crowd. Riddle followed with a Bro-to-sleep and German suplex for a nearfall. Riddle tried a floating bro but Bálor got his knees up and followed with a shotgun dropkick. Riddle avoided a Coup de Grâce and hit a draping DDT.

Riddle set up for an RKO but there was another distraction, this time by Rollins. Riddle tried going after him but Bálor caught Riddle with an inverted DDT and finished him off with Coup de Grâce for the pinfall win.

— Rollins stomped Riddle after the match.

The announcers tried to get over the fact that Rollins was done with Riddle. The angle felt a bit redundant.

********

Bayley told Sarah Schreiber that Dakota Kai and IYO SKY should have been tag champions in the first place and the replay of that match made it clear. Kai told her not to worry about the past and SKY said they would win tonight. Schreiber asked Bayley about being the first person to pin Bianca Belair in over a year. Bayley blew her off and they left.

********

Dominik Mysterio promo

There was a Dominik Mysterio video set to some ominous music. He said he’s always been known as a Mysterio but at Clash of the Castle, he felt alive for the first time in his life. Edge got what he deserved and he would finish the job tonight.

Dom wanted his father to know that this was his life. Rey should look at himself in the mirror and wonder why he didn’t get to know him. Rey should have asked him what he wanted for his career. Dominik said Rey cast a large shadow for such a tiny man and he was done living under it.

Rhea Ripley whispered something in Dom’s ear and he finished by saying, “I’m not your baby boy anymore — I’m a man.”

********

There was a quick Johnny Gargano video package.

Austin Theory did an interview where he introduced Gargano’s opponent for tonight, Chad Gable. Gable laughed at the name, “Johnny Wrestling” and said that after tonight, he would only be known as “Johnny Shoosh.”

********

Dakota Kai & IYO SKY (w/Bayley) defeated Aliyah & Raquel Rodriguez to win the Women’s Tag Team Championships (12:29)

They went to break two minutes into the match after Rodriguez chucked Aliyah onto Kai and SKY.

[SECOND HOUR]

Aliyah tagged in after the break and did a couple of flashy spots before Kai and SKY took over when Kai tripped her behind the referee’s back. They worked over Aliyah until she hit them both with a double neckbreaker. She tagged in Rodriguez who simply launched Kai into SKY.

Rodriguez hit Kai with a splash and boot but SKY broke up Aliyah’s cover. SKY tried a hurricanrana but Rodriguez blocked and sent them both over the top. Aliyah put Kai in a schoolboy for a nearfall. Aliyah followed with a facebuster but Bayley put Kai’s leg on the bottom rope to break up the fall.

Rodriguez chased Bayley away but SKY wiped her out with a moonsault to the outside (which didn’t look fun for Rodriguez).

Kai gave Aliyah a Kai-ropractor (flipping codebreaker) for the pinfall win.

Damage CTRL posed on the stage with their new title belts as fireworks went off.

********

Rey approached Dominik as he warmed up for his match. Rey saw what Dom said earlier and admitted he didn’t know that Dom felt that way.

Rey pleaded with him to do the right thing and not go through with the match. Edge was like a brother to him and an uncle to Dom. He also warned Dom how dangerous Edge could be. Dom didn’t look at him once. Rey said if Dom went through with this, things would never be the same. Ripley showed up and pulled Dom away.

********

Johnny Gargano defeated Chad Gable (w/Otis) (13:52)

This was really good. The crowd liked Gargano and got into the match more as it went.

(Google says otherwise but Gable appeared to be a bit taller than Gargano.)

They did some quick chain wrestling early on until Gable dropped Gargano with a right hand. Gargano came back with a dive off the apron which led to a break. Gable was in control after a break but Gargano made a comeback and hit a great-looking slingshot spear for two. Gable followed with a Cliffhanger DDT for two and a beautiful bridging German suplex for two.

Gargano applied the Gargano Escape but Gable countered into an ankle lock. Gable fought out of that and they exchanged strikes until Gargano dropped Gable with a clothesline.

Gable was sent to the outside and he fell into the arms of Otis. Gargano hit them with a dive which sent Otis into the announce table. Gargano hit Gable with One Final beat for the pinfall win.

— Otis tried to attack after the match but Gargano hit him with two superkicks. Otis was still on his feet so Gargano did a crotch-chop before rolling out of the ring.

As Gargano backed up the ramp, Theory attacked him from behind with the briefcase.

********

Austin Theory/Kevin Owens segment

After a break, Theory bragged about what he did to “overrated” Johnny Gargano but his promo was drowned out by “what” chants.

He was also interrupted by Kevin Owens who got a big reaction. Theory wanted him to shut up. Owens reminded Theory that he was no longer the hand-picked guy. Theory let him know that he has accomplished more in a few months than Owens and Gargano had in years.

Owens said Theory had everything handed to him. Owens admitted that when he won the Universal title, it was handed to him on a silver platter. But that’s where their similarities ended.

Owens noted how many guys have showed up in WWE looking just like Theory but they didn’t last because they were a dime a dozen. However, only a handful of guys like Owens and Gargano could make it and this business needed people like them. The crowd cheered. Owens called Theory the appendix of this business — completely expendable.

Owens hopes Theory does reach the top but Owens has been watching him and just doesn’t see it in him. He wanted Theory to prove him wrong. Owens fired up and encouraged Theory to leave everything he had in this ring and that’s how he would become the future of WWE. (Owens was so good here psyching up Theory that the crowd chanted for him.)

Theory flexed and told Owens that he would never be like him. Owens said talking sense into Theory didn’t work so he slapped him instead. They brawled and Owens was getting the better of it until referees tried breaking it up.

Theory tried to attack with his briefcase but after Owens ducked and went for a stunner, Theory bailed.

Theory had a bloody nose and Owens mocked him, saying he broke his nose and that was just the beginning.

********

Bianca Belair came out for an open challenge.

Sonya Deville entered. Deville said hasn’t forgotten what Belair did to her and blamed Belair for costing her the authority position. Belair told her to shut up and get in the ring.

Bianca Belair defeated Sonya Deville to retain the Raw Women’s Championship (12:03)

(Corey Graves said that Deville is “a badass, legitimately speaking,” which is an odd thing to say.)

Deville had control through a commercial. She dodged a moonsault and hit a running knee for two. Belair came back with a spinebuster for two. Deville hit some sort of knee strike or dropkick off the middle rope for two. Belair hit the KOD moments later for the pinfall win.

— Bayley entered after the match. She said Damage CTRL was here to take over the division and bragged about being the first to defeat Belair in over 300 days despite not even having a match herself in over a year (aside from the one Aliyah match in Toronto).

Damage CTRL surrounded the ring like the Shield and they jumped Belair. They attacked until Asuka and Alexa Bliss made the save. Bayley was left alone in the ring so Belair gave her a spinebuster.

1-on-2 handicap match: Omos (w/MVP) defeated two guys (1:39)

Omos won.

Sportsnet in Canada was having technical difficulties so I could only hear what was happening. I understand USA Network was having trouble too. The video feed returned as soon as the match was over.

********

Rey tried pleading with Edge but Edge said if anyone should deal with Dominik it should be him.

********

Kevin Patrick approached Rollins who was annoyed that he still had to deal with Riddle. He wondered how many times he’d have to stomp Riddle’s head into the ground.

Bobby Lashley approached Rollins. He questioned Rollins calling himself the face of Raw because he wasn’t the one with the gold. Rollins said the US title wasn’t the one he referenced earlier when he said he wanted gold but challenged him to a title match next week. Lashley gladly accepted.

********

There was a taped segment with The Miz at his house. He said this was the only way you’d get to see him on Raw considering what’s been happening the past few weeks. His daughters approached him before he got them to go to bed.

Maryse approached and told him to wrap it up soon because they had a premiere to go to. Miz was wary about leaving the house but she tried reassuring him before going to the car.

Miz sat down to conduct the interview but the interviewer kept asking about Dexter Lumis so Miz cut it short. Miz and Maryse left in their SUV.

The camera panned back inside the house and Lumis was there. He had a drawing of Miz and Maryse with their daughters and he held it up for the camera.

(So Lumis is in the house with Miz’s daughters and presumably their babysitter.)

********

Next week on Raw:

  • Lashley vs. Rollins for the US title
  • Owens vs. Theory

(They aired a long replay of the earlier Owens/Theory segment.)

********

Dominik has his own entrance music (different than the Judgment Day theme).

Edge defeated Dominik Mysterio (w/Rhea Ripley) via disqualification (15:08)

Edge was all over Dominik early on. Dom tried a flashy counter so Edge just booted him. Dom did a fancy kip-up so Edge dropped him with a clothesline. Ripley tried giving Dom a pep talk but it didn’t work because Edge started tossing him around ringside. Dom tried pleading with uncle Edge so Edge kicked him in the face. The crowd chanted for Edge.

As the ref checked on Dominik, Ripley tripped Edge off the apron. Dom attacked his leg as well and they went to break. Dom worked over Edge’s leg and did the three amigos suplexes. He went up for a frog splash but Edge knocked him off the top.

Edge wanted to try a superplex but Ripley held Dom’s leg to help block it (which the ref didn’t notice). Dom shoved Edge off the ropes and hit a frog splash for two. Dom seemed to be going for a figure four but Edge kicked him into the ring post.

Edge hit a flapjack, clothesline and Edge-o-matic for two. Edge hit an impaler DDT before going for a spear but Dom rolled through into a single-leg Boston crab. Edge countered that into a rollup for two.

Edge trapped Dom’s arms in the ropes and hammered away at him as the crowd counted along until the ref shoved him off. (Graves said Dom was being taught a lesson by uncle Adam.)

Edge was about to go for a spear with Dom still trapped but Rey jumped in to stop him. Edge and Rey argued and Edge brushed him aside.

Priest yanked Rey out of the ring as Bálor attacked Edge for the DQ. (I think Priest did something to Rey outside the ring but the camera didn’t catch it.)

Ripley hit Edge’s leg from behind with a chair before Dom repeatedly hit his leg with the chair. They elevated Edge’s leg on the steel chair so that Bálor could hit the leg with Coup de Grâce.

Bálor let Edge know that Judgment Day was in charge as the crowd chanted “you suck.” Judgment Day posed as the show ended.

WWE Raw live results: Lashley vs. Ciampa US title match

Date: August 8, 2022
Location: Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, OH

Show Recap —

There was a video recapping recent events involving Bianca Belair, Bayley, Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky before the announcers ran down tonight’s card. They showed a bracket for the Women’s tag team title tournament. NXT’s Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark are among the teams. (Sasha Banks and Naomi are not.)

Bayley, Sky and Kai entered to start the show. They said the fans needed them and this division needed them. Bayley didn’t think the fans could possibly care about Becky Lynch and said Belair would be nothing without her. Bayley wondered how she was the only one who realized that Sky was a weapon and wondered how she was the only one who saw the benefits of Kai.

The crowd didn’t want to hear more talking and they booed loudly over Bayley until she was interrupted by Alexa Bliss, Asuka and Belair. The crowd chanted for Belair.

Bliss informed Kai and Sky that they were not winning the tag titles because they wouldn’t be able to get through herself and Asuka.

Belair wasn’t through with Bayley’s crew and was ready to fight right now. Bayley didn’t want to wrestle in Cleveland and challenged them to a six-woman tag match at Clash at the Castle.

Belair accepted before she decked Bayley. The six women brawled until Bliss knocked down everyone with a dive off the barricade. Officials tried separating them as they went to commercial break. The crowd was into the brawl.

********

Seth Rollins defeated Angelo Dawkins (w/Montez Ford) (8:51)

Corey Graves noted how much training and homework Dawkins did specifically for this match. Dawkins wrestled without a shirt and Graves also mentioned how much he has slimmed down.

Rollins fell to the outside and Ford mocked his selling, which was funny. The distraction allowed Dawkins to tackle Rollins over the announce table which led to break 90 seconds into the match.

Rollins took control after driving Dawkins’ face into the middle rope. Rollins kicked at Ford which enraged Ford to the point that he grabbed a chair and jumped into the ring. The ref had to hold back Ford and eventually ejected him. (The announcers said that Ford’s temper got the best of him and Rollins was smart enough to take advantage.)

Dawkins knocked Rollins out of the ring and followed with a flip dive. Dawkins followed with a suplex, spinning corner splash and Silencer for two. Dawkins twice avoided a stomp before hitting a sit-out spinebuster for a close nearfall. (The crowd wanted the upset there.)

Rollins ducked a charge and Dawkins went shoulder-first into the steel steps. Dawkins avoided a stomp one more time but Rollins yanked him down by the shoulder before hitting a Pedigree for the pinfall win. (The crowd popped for the Pedigree.)

This was a good showing for Dawkins and the crowd was into it.

********

Edge told the Mysterios that he had their backs tonight. Rey believed him but Dominik wasn’t exactly happy to see him. Edge said last week was a mistake and asked Dominik if they were cool.

Dominik shoved Edge so Rey held him back. Rey said he’s known Edge for 20 years and he’s like family. Dominik couldn’t believe Rey was taking Edge’s side so he left. Rey told Edge he’d talk to Dom.

********

Kevin Owens defeated Ezekiel via ref stoppage (approx. 0:45)

(The bell never ran to conclude the match so I don’t know what the official ruling was.)

Ezekiel didn’t get an entrance. Owens received a nice pop on the way out.

Owens was all over Ezekiel as soon as the match started. He powerbombed Ezekiel onto the edge of the ring about 45 seconds into the match and the ref checked on Ezekiel who appeared to be hurt.

Owens laughed as medical staff brought out a stretcher for Ezekiel.

********

The Judgment Day promo

Finn Bálor and Damian Priest entered. Bálor thought it was funny that Edge and Rey thought Judgment Day should fear them but they couldn’t even get on the same page and Dom already left them. He said fear wasn’t real but danger was real, “and I am danger.”

Priest said he’d love to take out Edge tonight but noted that Raw was in Toronto in two weeks. It’s been forever since Edge wrestled on Raw in Toronto so Priest challenged him to a match. If Edge had the balls, Priest and Judgment Day would end him in front of whatever friends and family he had left.

— In the back, Rey told Edge that he couldn’t get a hold of Dominik. Edge offered to go to ringside but Rey knew that Dom would come to his senses.

[SECOND HOUR]

They claimed that SummerSlam had 1.3 billion video views on social media.

Finn Bálor (w/Damian Priest) defeated Rey Mysterio (13:56)

Bálor started doing the three amigo suplexes — including doing the worst Eddie Guerrero shimmy ever — but Rey countered into a suplex of his own and hit a low dropkick for two. Rey went for a 619 but Priest got in the way and took the move instead. That allowed Bálor to pop up and drive Rey into the ring post.

Rey fought back after a break and hit a sliding DDT into the barricade. Priest tripped Rey as the ref was distracted so Edge immediately entered to his music and brawled with Priest through the crowd.

Rey hit Bálor with a Code Red for a close nearfall. Rey went for the 619 but Bálor killed him with a clothesline and a shotgun dropkick.

Rey dodged a Coup de Grace and set up for the 619 but was distracted. Rhea Ripley appeared on the stage with Dominik over her shoulder. She dropped his lifeless, beaten body in front of her.

The distraction allowed Bálor to hit 1916 and a Coup de Grace for the pinfall win.

********

Sarah Schreiber interviewed Tamina and 24/7 champion Dana Brooke. Brooke was excited to become a double champion with her former foe. Bayley and her friends showed up and she mocked Brooke. Tamina stood up for Brooke and warned them that she could take them out right now. The heels left, but not before Sky told Brooke that she didn’t like her.

********

Tag Team Championship Tournament Round 1: IYO SKY & Dakota Kai (w/Bayley) defeated Tamina & 24/7 Champion Dana Brooke (10:04)

(I believe Byron Saxton mentioned that Kai and Sky had a history working together in Japan years ago.)

They went to break 90 seconds into the match after Brooke wiped out her opponents with a dive off the top. Kai and Sky took control during the break after driving Brooke into the barricade. The crowd was quiet until a random “Bayley sucks” chant broke out.

Tamina made a hot tag but she was cut off by Kai and Sky (after Brooke crashed into the barricade when Bayley saved Kai). Sky hit a moonsault for the pinfall win.

Kai and Sky move on in the tournament and will face the winner of Asuka/Bliss vs. Doudrop/Nikki ASH.

********

Patrick ran toward Owens for an interview as he was leaving the arena. Owens warned him not to do that again or he’d drop him harder than he did Ezekiel. Owens knew that there were more eyes on this show now than there have been for a while and he wanted to remind everyone that this was still the Kevin Owens show.

— In the background, Doudrop, Nikki and a few others were checking on a sedan that appeared to crash into a parking lot wall.

Elsewhere, Rey and a trainer checked on Dominik.

********

They re-aired the US title video from last week.

Ciampa entered wearing the red, white and blue Harley Race robe.

Graves (with a completely serious tone) said that Ciampa had experience being “trained by Harley Race, spending time under the tutelage of Killer Kowalski, and now learning from the Miz.”

Bobby Lashley defeated Ciampa (w/The Miz) to retain the United States Championship (12:56)

They had a strong match, interference aside, and Ciampa got a few nearfalls before Lashley ultimately won.

Ciampa slipped out of a powerslam and hit a chop block but Lashley no-sold a few chops before hitting a back elbow. Lashley wanted to drive Ciampa into the post but Miz got in his way so Lashley just chucked Ciampa into Miz.

[THIRD HOUR]

Ciampa took control during a break with a knee strike but Lashley came back with shoulder tackles and a modified Dominator for two. They traded counters until Lashley hit a spear but Miz put Ciampa’s leg on the rope to break up the cover.

AJ Styles ran in from out of nowhere and chased Miz through the crowd. Lashley hit a flatliner as Styles chased Miz through the ring and to the back.

Ciampa used the distraction and drove Lashley into the exposed turnbuckle before hitting a knee strike for a nearfall. Lashley countered a Fairy Tale Ending but Ciampa applied the Gargano Escape. Lashley fought out of that but Ciampa hit a draping DDT for a nearfall.

Lashley blocked a knee strike and hit a chokeslam before applying the Hurt Lock and Ciampa tapped out. The crowd liked Lashley and popped for the win.

********

Styles continued to brawl with Miz in the back during commercials and a match between the two was announced for tonight.

1-on-2 handicap match: Omos (w/MVP) defeated Andrea Guercio & Spencer Slade (1:43)

Omos beat two guys.

********

Patrick interviewed Rollins (whose full name is still Seth Freakin’ Rollins). Patrick informed Rollins that Riddle would have an injury update next week. Rollins was pissed that Patrick brought him in for an interview just to ask about Riddle.

Rollins called himself the gatekeeper of this industry. As great as Riddle could be in the ring, he was great at flushing his own potential down the toilet — just ask Dana White. Rollins thought Riddle should retire or he might just have to Cody Rhodes his ass out the door.

********

Dolph Ziggler defeated Chad Gable (w/Otis) (6:33)

They did chain wrestling for the first two minutes before Gable hit a Chaos Theory suplex (called the “American Automatic”). Gable worked over the leg briefly before Ziggler dodged a moonsault and hit a DDT for two. Ziggler fought out of an ankle lock for a second time but was too hurt to hit a superkick so Gable powerbombed him.

Ziggler slipped out of another ankle lock, slipped out of an Angle Slam attempt and hit a superkick for the pinfall win in his hometown.

Good, short match that at least felt different than what we’d normally see on this show.

********

Nikki and Doudrop were focused and said they would crush the hopes and dreams of Bliss and Asuka next week.

Elsewhere, Bliss and Asuka said nobody was ready for them. Bayley and chums showed up to mock them.

As this was happening, the crashed car could be seen in the background and officials suddenly jogged passed them.

Bayley and pals left as Styles walked by them on his way to the ring.

********

Main event time.

No disqualification match: AJ Styles defeated The Miz (12:34)

Styles tried to grab a table to the delight of the crowd but Miz dropkicked him. Moments later, Styles tried to set something up on the announce table but Miz chucked him over the barricade which led to break.

Styles was back on his feet following the break setting up a table as the crowd chanted for the table. However, Miz attacked him repeatedly with a kendo stick. Styles fought back with the kendo stick, crotched him with it and used it to hit a side Russian leg sweep for two.

Styles hit a Phenomenal forearm but Ciampa pulled the ref out of the ring. Styles knocked Ciampa off the apron and through a table.

Styles went for the Phenomenal forearm but Miz chucked a chair in his face and hit a Skull Crushing Finale for a nearfall.

Miz attacked Styles’ leg with the kendo stick and went for a figure four but Styles kicked him into a steel chair and hit a Styles Clash for the pinfall win.

— As Styles celebrated, it seemed like a fan was being dealt with by security. It was actually Dexter Lumis but they didn’t focus on him (one announcer did say his name).

Styles continued to celebrate as the show went off the air.
