UFC 293 live results: Israel Adesanya vs. Sean Strickland

The Octagon returns to Australia with one of the UFC’s biggest stars on top as UFC 293: Adesanya vs. Strickland takes place from the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.

UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya makes the first title defense of his second reign as he defends against Sean Strickland in the main event. Adesanya regained the title with a knockout of Alex Pereira in April and will be defending the title for the seventh time in his career. Strickland gets his opportunity on the heels of two straight wins this year over Nassourdine Imavov and Abus Magomedov.

In the co-main event, fan favorite heavyweight Tai Tuivasa looks to end a two-fight losing skid when he battles Alexander Volkov, winner of two straight. Also on the main card is a flyweight fight between Manel Kape and the debuting Felipe Dos Santos, a heated heavyweight title between Justin Tafa and Austen Lane, and a light heavyweight matchup pitting Tyson Pedro and Anton Turkalj opening up the main card.

Miranda gets an early takedown and already has the back with the body triangle locked in after a quick exchange. He’s working for a choke and has it locked in and Young goes out cold! Wow, what a finish from Miranda.

Diamond lands a kick and Radtke catches the leg but lets go. Diamond lands a couple of high kicks and they tie up against the fence. Radtke has the back against the fence. Diamond doing a good job of defending. Diamond lands a knee and they separate. They trade jabs and Diamond lands a head kick. Radtke gets a brief takedown and has the back as they scramble up. They scramble to the mat but get up late. 10-9 Radtke.

They trade to start the second and Diamond lands a groin strike and we have a timeout. They get back to action and they trade left hands. Radtke lands a flurry and lands a right hand that hurts Diamond badly. Radtke has it tied up against the fence and is pressuring and landing but they are separated by Herb Dean. A replay shows that Jenkins looked to have dislocated his elbow planting on the takedown.

There was a replay looked at and Jung tapped out with about eleven seconds to go and they have now ruled it a submission win.

In the headliner of tonight’s UFC on ESPN 48 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Sean Strickland looks to score his second straight win when he welcomes the challenge of Abus Magomedov. Strickland is looking to score his second straight win while Magomedov, only in his second UFC fight, is in search of his 26th professional win and fourth straight overall.

The co-main event sees a battle of ranked lightweights as Damir Ismagulov takes on Grant Dawson. Also on the main card is a welterweight clash between Max Griffin and undefeated Michael Morales and a women’s flyweight bout between Ariane Lipski and Melissa Gatto. Capping off the prelims is the UFC return of former title challenger Kevin Lee.

The UFC kicks off their 2023 campaign with the first of 42 slated events this year, and they get off to a tough start with already a fight week change to the headline bout.

Kelvin Gastelum was forced to pull out of the main event on Monday after suffering a mouth injury during the final day of his training camp. Due to this, Sean Strickland has stepped in on just a few days’ notice to take on Nassourdine Imavov, who was originally scheduled to fight Gastelum, in the five-round headliner. It will be contested at 205 pounds due to the late change, though both men typically fight at middleweight. It is the second straight main event for Strickland, who closed out 2022 with a loss to Jared Cannonier in December. Imavov is looking to extend his three-fight win streak.

In the co-main event, Dan Ige looks to end a three-fight losing skid against Damon Jackson, winner of four straight, in featherweight action. Also on the main card is a middleweight bout between Punahele Soriano and Roman Kopylov, a potential title eliminator in the women’s bantamweight division between Ketlen Vieira and Raquel Pennington, and undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov kicks off the main card against Raoni Barcelos in a bantamweight bout.

The Octagon is back inside the UFC Apex this weekend for the final fight card of 2022, which will be capped off by a middleweight main event between two men trying to get themselves back into the title picture.

Third-ranked Jared Cannonier takes on seventh-ranked Sean Strickland in the five-round headline bout at 185 pounds. Both are looking to get back into the win column after suffering losses at UFC 276 in July. Cannonier came up short in a title shot, dropping a decision to now-former UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya. Strickland was knocked out in the first round by Alex Pereira, who went on to defeat Adesanya to win the UFC Middleweight Championship. Cannonier and Strickland were originally slated to fight in October, but an injury to Strickland pushed the fight back two months.

In the co-main event, it is a battle of rising lightweight contenders as Arman Tsarukyan battles Damir Ismagulov. Also on the main card is flyweight Amir Albazi welcoming Alessandro Costa to the UFC, a featherweight match-up pitting Alex Caceres against Julian Erosa, and a battle of lightweight veterans as Drew Dober takes on Bobby Green.

Action is back inside the Octagon after a week off with the UFC returning to their home base inside the UFC APEX for a middleweight main event between two men looking to state their case for being next in line for a title shot.

Sixth-ranked middleweight Jack Hermansson goes for his second straight win as he battles seventh-ranked Sean Strickland, winner of five straight, in the five-round headline bout. Hermansson is fighting for the first time since May, when he scored a win over Edmen Shahbazyan. Strickland will be in his second career UFC main event as he competes for the first time since a July win over Uriah Hall.

Also on the main card is a middleweight battle of prospects as Punahele Soriano takes on Nick Maximov, a welterweight clash between the undefeated Shavkat Rakhmonov and Carlston Harris, a light heavyweight bout between long-time UFC veteran Sam Alvey and Brendan Allen, and, in what was originally supposed to be the TUF 29 middleweight finale, a fight between Tresean Gore and Bryan Battle.

Stoliarenko grabs the arm and looks for an armbar and had it in deep but Davis is defending. Davis gets out and is back on top in the guard of Stoliarenko as both are landing on the mat. Stoliarenko looking for the arm again but Davis gets away and lands some more punches from the top. Stoliarenko lands an illegal upkick and we have a break in the action. They get back to action and Davis with more punches and elbows from the top. 10-9 Davis.

They trade to start the second. Both are landing punches and Davis lands a right hand. Stoliarenko is landing some solid punches. They both continue to land with Davis landing more. The UFC wraps up a busy month of July with another event at their headquarters in Las Vegas, this time with a 13-fight card headlined by a pair of middleweights looking to break into the upper echelon of the 185-pound division.

Uriah Hall will welcome Sean Strickland to his first ever headline spot as the two middleweights square off in the five-round main event. Both are ranked middleweights, with Hall coming in ranked eighth and Strickland ranked eleventh, and both men are riding four-fight win streaks headed into this showdown. The winner could find themselves fighting top-five opposition next.

Also on the main card is a women’s strawweight fight between Cheyanne Buys and Gloria de Paula, a welterweight contest pitting Niklas Stolze against Jared Gooden, a featherweight bout between newcomers Collin Anglin and Melsik Baghdasaryan and a welterweight bout between Bryan Barberena and Jason Witt.
