Update on Andrade El Idolo’s AEW contract status

Andrade El Idolo believes his AEW contract is up “relatively soon.”

The 34-year-old debuted for the promotion in June 2021. At the time, it was believed he had signed a three-year deal.

A recently aired vignette in CMLL seems to imply Andrade is headed back there soon. Our own Dave Meltzer believes Andrade wants to return to CMLL now because he might not be able to do so later if he ends up signing with WWE when his AEW deal expires.

Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio:

His deal is coming up relatively soon unless it’s extended or something because of time off or injuries or whatever but he thinks that his deal is up pretty soon and so he wanted to go back in case he ends up going to WWE.

He’s not made the decision what he’s doing next, he’s not signed a new deal but if he does go to WWE, he knows he can’t go back to Arena Mexico.

Andrade missed nine months of action due to a torn pec from September 2022 to June 2023. He could potentially have that missed time added to the length of his AEW deal.

“My impression is that it’s up relatively soon,” Meltzer continued to say of Andrade’s deal.

LuchaBlog recently provided a succinct update on Andrade’s return to CMLL.

Andrade’s name has come up positively in 2023 – primarily around relatives Lady Shadow and Brillante Jr. making CMLL appearances and doing interviews – where he wasn’t talked about at all when he was working AAA shows. There are must’ve been some work to smooth things over before this point. I believe Andrade’s return will lead to more attention on his other family members.

Andrade defeated Daniel Garcia on Saturday’s episode of AEW Collision in his first Continental Classic match. He wrestled Bryan Danielson in his second tournament match at the Collision tapings in Montreal on Tuesday. That match will air on Saturday’s show.

Andrade gives details on Charlotte Flair, WWE release, Saudi Arabia

In an interview with Lucha Libre Online’s Hugo Savinovich, Andrade stated that WWE pulled Charlotte Flair from WrestleMania plans and advertising after she was mistakenly told by a WWE-affiliated doctor that she was pregnant.

After conducting home pregnancy tests and getting an ultrasound and blood work, Charlotte determined that she was not pregnant. The doctor then came to the same conclusion, but Andrade stated that WWE had already moved forward with plans without her.

In a statement credited to Charlotte Flair’s camp, released to talkSport’s Alex McCarthy, the camp said that Charlotte was medically suspended due to elevated HCG levels, which can indicate pregnancy.

The statement from Charlotte’s camp reads in full:

“What Manny [Andrade] said about the pregnancy test in today’s interview is true, but a significant amount of context is lost in translation and we’d like to clear that up as best we can.

A few weeks ago, Charlotte received a call from WWE medical telling her that her HCG levels had come back high and she was medically suspended for pregnancy.

That day, she took several home tests that all came back negative. A few days later, blood work and ultrasound confirmed there was no pregnancy.

This was before any issues with Covid (she is currently medically clear).

This put a lot in context for her, mainly how small a woman’s career window is. The men are able to work well into their 50s while the women are seen as “older” in their early 30s even. For an athlete in her prime, these years mean everything.

Her issue was with the process and how the information was relayed as opposed to the information itself.”

Of course, the possibility that Flair could still be added to WrestleMania in some form still exists.

Andrade also stated that in addition to Flair’s positive COVID-19 test, he too tested positive for COVID a week before his WWE release.

He also went into detail about the infamous airplane incident in Saudi Arabia after the Crown Jewel show in October 2019, stating that he opted out of future trips to Saudi Arabia after the incident and skipped a follow-up meeting where WWE addressed the situation with talent.

Andrade sad that he spoke directly to Vince McMahon about the airplane issue and McMahon told him that it was an isolated incident.

NXT Tampa results: Manny “La Sombra” Andrade debuts; Finn Balor, Asuka, more

Submitted by J.J. Williams

– Hype Bros defeated Marcus Louis and Sawyer Fulton via pinfall with the Hype Ryder on Marcus. Good reaction for the Bros here. Fun action.

– Elias Samson beat Rich Swann with his new neckbreaker finish. Good match, Swann is beloved already and Elias had a lot of heat here. After the win, Elias hopped the barricade and drifted away.

– Eva Marie, Alexa Bliss and Peyton Royce defeated Liv Morgan, Aliyah, and Adrien Reese. The negative reaction for Eva is amazing these days. Eva got the pin on Aliyah.

– Manny Andrade (the former La Sombra) made his NXT debut and defeated Riddick Moss with running knees to the face while Moss is laying with his head on the bottom turnbuckle. Manny wasn’t known yet, so he had to win over this crowd.

– Jason Jordan, Chad Gable and Apollo Crews defeated NXT Champion Dash & Dawson and Angelo Dawkins. American Alpha is very over, a lot of solid wrestling here. Gable hit a delayed roll through Chaos Theory. It was a thing of beauty. Jordan is the best hot tag in NXT, and cleared house before Gable scored the pin after the assisted German Suplex.

– Baron Corbin defeated Alex Riley with the EOD. Physical match. Baron was jawing with the crowd a lot.

– Asuka defeated Billie Kay (w Sylvester LeFort) via Asuka Lock submission. Good match here, all about Asuka.

– NXT Champion Finn Balor and Bull Dempsey defeated Tye Dillinger and Tino Sabatelli. A lot of comedy with Bull doing his jumping jacks routine and upsetting the heels with his antics. Finn was extra animated in this match as he Irish whipped Tino across the ring and chopped him 9 times before Dillinger got in his way to stop the tenth, Finn then chopped Tye for the large ten chant. Balor got the win with the stomp and sent everyone home happy.
