Luke Harper requests release from WWE

In a statement posted on his social media accounts this afternoon, Luke Harper revealed that he’s requested his release from WWE:

As of this evening, I have requested a release from WWE. The past 6 years have been a simply, amazing journey around the world and back with lifelong friends and family. I am proud of it all and proud to say I shared the ring with my co workers.

This decision, as difficult as it was, feels right for myself and WWE. My goal in the future is to continue to grow as a performer and person and continue to make my family proud.

Thank you. From the top to the bottom of WWE. Thank you to the fans for your undying support. Thank you everyone.

UPDATE: Dave Meltzer notes that the 39-year-old Harper hasn’t been given his release as of this moment, he’s only asked for it. Harper didn’t state what WWE’s response to his request was in his statement.

After undergoing wrist surgery while Erik Rowan was also out of action, Harper returned to the ring at a house show in March. He was an entrant in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 35 and defeated Dominik Dijakovic at WrestleMania Axxess, with their match airing as part of the NXT Alumni vs. NXT Worlds Collide special on the WWE Network.

Harper wasn’t used on television on Raw or SmackDown since returning from injury. Rowan returned at the Royal Rumble in January and aligned with Daniel Bryan in storyline.

On February 19, Tye Dillinger publicly stated that he had requested his release from WWE. WWE then announced Dillinger’s release on February 22.

Harper, Tyler Breeze make surprise appearances at NXT house show

As has happened semi-frequently this year, two members of the WWE main roster made surprise appearances at an NXT house show last night.

Luke Harper and Tyler Breeze both wrestled at Thursday’s NXT show in Buffalo, New York. Harper lost a North American Championship match to Ricochet, with Ricochet hitting the Shooting Star Press to retain. Ricochet and Harper shook hands after the match.

Breeze defeated Marcel Barthel (the former Axel Dieter Jr.)

WWE posted video of Harper’s entrance:

Harper and Breeze’s tag team partners are currently out of action due to injury. Erick Rowan suffered a torn right biceps at SummerSlam last month, while Fandango underwent surgery in July for a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Breeze was also part of an NXT house show tour in July and defeated Barthel at an event in Jacksonville, Florida in May.

NXT’s road tour will be in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania tonight, Warren, Ohio tomorrow, and Royal Oak, Michigan on Sunday.

Possible injury during WWE RAW dark match

There was what looked to be an injury after Raw went off the air in a dark match with The Wyatt Family vs. Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose & Dolph Ziggler & Sami Zayn.

Multiple reports have come in that Harper took a spill onto the floor and grabbed his right leg.  Those at ringside believed he blew out his knee but as of this moment we don’t have anything official past the point the WWE medical staff came out immediately.  He left under his own power but was helped to the back by the other members of the Wyatt Family.

This possible injury adds to a string of WWE injuries going back over the last few months. The most recent injury was to Neville.

Also during the dark match a fan attempted to attack Braun Strowman. It’s not clear exactly what happened but Strowman was attacked in some form and told security who dragged the fan out of the building.

We’ll update this if we hear more details tonight.
