Kane addresses whether he would return for WWE retirement match

It doesn’t sound like WWE Hall of Famer Kane has any plans to return to the ring for one more match.

It’s been seven years since Kane last regularly competed, and he has not wrestled at all since being an entrant in the 2021 Royal Rumble. With wrestling retirements in the news this week due to Goldberg’s final match, Kane appeared on SiriusXM’s Off The Ropes and briefly addressed whether he would return for a retirement bout.

“[Laughs] I don’t know about that, man,” he told hosts Jonathan Coachman and Nic Nemeth. “We were just talking about athleticism and movement and keeping up with the pace of people nowadays. That may have left me behind, guys.”

The 58-year-old Kane, whose real name is Glenn Jacobs, currently serves as the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. Due to term limits, he is ineligible to run for the office again in 2026 after already serving two four-year terms.

A retirement match may be unlikely, but Kane told Off The Ropes that he does miss entertaining the fans.

“Yeah,” Kane responded when asked if he misses anything from his WWE career. “I don’t miss the travel [laughs], but I think that’s a lot better nowadays. They don’t keep the schedule that we did. You know, it’s become even more of a TV product, which I would assume is probably even more stressful than what we had.

“But nevertheless, yeah, I do, man. Because it’s fun to go out there and entertain, it’s fun to interact with the fans and the people who love pro wrestling, who love WWE. I still get that, and it is the coolest thing ever. You know, one of my great regrets is I wish I had appreciated that more early in my career and then even throughout my career. The fact that you really are, man — people are watching you, you’re entertaining them. And in many cases, you’re taking them from what could be a tough situation in their own life and they get to forget it about for a little bit by coming into this fantasy world. Man, that’s a blessing. It’s a gift, and it’s really cool. And I do miss that part of it.”

Kane began his wrestling career in the early 1990s and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2021.

WWE Hall of Famer Kane addresses potential run for governor of Tennessee

WWE Hall of Famer Kane (Glenn Jacobs) could be seeking a higher office when his time as mayor comes to an end.

Jacobs has served as mayor of Knox County, Tennessee since being elected in 2018. Currently in his second term, Jacobs will be term-limited and unable to run for Knox County mayor in the next election. The timing coincides with Tennessee Governor Bill Lee also being term-limited.

In a profile published on Friday, the Washington Examiner asked Jacobs if there’s any chance he could run for governor. Jacobs noted that he’s considering all of his options, which includes whether he’ll remain in politics or not.

“Yes. I have two more years in office and am term-limited, so I’m considering my options, including whether I’ll remain in politics,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs and Lee are both Republicans. Jacobs appeared at a Donald Trump rally this January and has endorsed Trump for president.

Since becoming mayor, Jacobs has made sporadic appearances for WWE. He’s also wrestled twice while in office. At WWE’s Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia in 2018, Kane & The Undertaker lost to Triple H & Shawn Michaels.

Jacobs’ last match was as an entrant in the 2021 Royal Rumble. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame later that year.

I felt the relationships I had there that were being built were good. I was shocked, and it was a big blow to my confidence. I was thinking Chase U main roster, but I was shocked and hurt. It showed me that there is a lot more to this business that maybe I do have to learn about. In some way shape or form, you are always in control. I look at this as a great opportunity. I feel that I’m made for this. Physically, and mentally. The one thing I always wanted was to cut an in-ring promo. I love being in front of crowds. I never feel more comfortable than being in front of them. That’s what will make me successful in this business. I love the Brodies and they’re loving me back. Glenn ‘Kane’ Jacobs re-elected as mayor of Knox County

Glenn “Kane” Jacobs will remain mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.

Jacobs was declared the winner of the Knox County mayoral race just past 10 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday, night, earning a second term as mayor of Knox County.

A Republican, the incumbent Jacobs defeated Democratic rival Debbie Helsley. The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that Jacobs held a 4,400-vote edge over Helsley with 63 percent of the vote counted, enough to project Jacobs as the winner.

Jacobs tweeted:

“THANK YOU Knox County for electing me to serve a second term as your mayor. I am so grateful for the support you have shown me and my family throughout my campaign for re-election, and will continue to do all I can to serve you to the best of my ability.”

Speaking at an election results watch party in Knoxville, Tennessee on Thursday night, Jacobs said: “I promise you, and I don’t make many promises because they’re hard to keep. But I do promise you that I will continue to work hard every day for the brightest future possible for our Knox County.”

Glenn ‘Kane’ Jacobs gets unopposed Republican primary win in mayoral race

Glenn “Kane” Jacobs has released a statement following his victory in the 2022 Republican primary election for Mayor of Knox County.

Jacobs was running unopposed and brought in 24,675 votes. He will now move on to the general election on August 4 where he will be running against the winner of the Democrat primary, Debbie Helsley.

Jacobs released a statement regarding his victory on social media.

“Now more than ever, we must stand strong to defend our conservative values, and as your Mayor, that’s exactly what I will do. I’m humbled by your support and thank each of you for entrusting me to be your Republican nominee, and together, we will win in August to ensure Knox County remains the best place to live, work and raise a family.”

Jacobs won the 2018 Republican primary by only 17 votes. He then won the general election handily, garnering over 66% of the vote and defeating Democrat candidate, Linda Haney.

WWE’s Kane running for re-election as mayor of Knox County

Glenn Jacobs (WWE’s Kane) is officially running for a second term as mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.

Jacobs announced on Monday that he’s named a campaign treasurer and will be filing the paperwork to run for re-election. The Republican primary will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. The general election will take place on Thursday, August 4, 2022.

“It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve as Knox County Mayor. Today, I am announcing that I will seek reelection. I would appreciate your support and your vote,” Jacobs wrote.

Jacobs also said in a statement: “Four years ago, I pledged to stay true to my conservative values as Mayor. Nobody could have envisioned a pandemic and the economic shutdown that followed, but I’m proud Knox County has been able to weather the storm without a tax increase. By tightening our belt and making smart cuts, we balanced our budget while continuing to make forward-thinking investments in our community. If reelected, the public can expect four more years of leadership with conservative values top of mind.”

After narrowly winning the Republican primary, Jacobs easily defeated his Democratic opponent in 2018 to be elected to his first term as mayor of Knox County.

As Kane, Jacobs made an appearance for WWE as an entrant in this January’s men’s Royal Rumble match. Jacobs announced that he was donating his pay for the appearance to the Knox County Mayor’s Applied Technology Scholarship Fund for TCAT (Tennessee College of Applied Technology) Knoxville.

Kane still planning on wrestling at WWE Crown Jewel

A spokesman for Glenn Jacobs (WWE’s Kane and the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee) has noted that Jacobs still plans to wrestle at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.

In an article that was published earlier this afternoon, Jacobs’ spokesman Rob Link told the Knoxville News Sentinel that Jacobs’ plans to wrestle at the event have not changed. “Mayor Jacobs won’t speculate on Mr. [Jamal] Khashoggi’s disappearance,” Link said. “However, he and his family are in the mayor’s thoughts and prayers.”

WWE issued a statement on Thursday noting that they are “currently monitoring the situation” following Khashoggi’s disappearance and suspected murder. Khashoggi, a columnist for the Washington Post who has been a frequent critic of the Saudi government, disappeared after entering Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul, Turkey on October 2.

The Turkish government reportedly has audio and video evidence showing that a Saudi security team killed Khashoggi inside the consulate.

Saudi officials have denied the allegations that are being made against them and have said that Khashoggi left the consulate shortly after he arrived.

Kane & The Undertaker are scheduled to face Triple H & Shawn Michaels at Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 2. The Independent Journal Review ran an article today that quoted senators urging WWE to rethink the event, and Dave Meltzer reported that “there have been backup plans that are being talked about internally if the show doesn’t take place.”

WWE’s Kane to become next mayor of Knox County, Tennessee

UPDATE: Jacobs has officially defeated Haney, winning with 66.39 percent of the vote.

**********

Several local media outlets have projected Jacobs to defeat Democrat Linda Haney after taking a 66.56 percent to 33.44 percent lead in early and absentee voting. After barely coming out ahead in May’s Republican primary, Jacobs was expected to easily win tonight’s election. As expected, Glenn Jacobs (WWE’s Kane) is going to be the next mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.

Jacobs has declared victory tonight, while Haney is waiting for the full results to come in to comment. Jacobs will begin his term as mayor on September 1.

Jacobs returned to WWE television during the general election campaign, teaming with Daniel Bryan in a program against The Bludgeon Brothers. Their feud lasted a few weeks and culminated with Harper & Rowan retaining the SmackDown Tag Team titles at Extreme Rules on July 15. Jacobs was limited at the pay-per-view due to suffering an Achilles tendon injury on TV.

Haney criticized Jacobs for still wrestling while the campaign was going on, with Jacobs replying that his schedule was sporadic, that it wasn’t different than if he had any other job, and that it didn’t have an impact on his preparation. Jacobs told the Knoxville News Sentinel last month that he “may still do a few special things” with WWE after becoming mayor.

Travis Dorman, a reporter for the Knoxville News Sentinel, noted that WWE cameramen are with Jacobs tonight.

Kane responds to criticism over wrestling during mayoral campaign

With him returning to WWE television in the lead-up to next month’s mayoral election, Glenn Jacobs (Kane) has received some criticism from his Democratic opponent.

The Knoxville News Sentinel ran a story this morning where they spoke to Jacobs and Democrat Linda Haney about Jacobs continuing to wrestle during their race to decide the next mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. “I was really stunned to find out he was still pursuing it. I thought it was in the past,” Haney said. “I thought in this crucial time he’d want to be here and be with the people.

“Being an entertainer doesn’t make you a political figure. It may get you some votes, but I believe people want someone with common sense and who is (ready to lead).”

Jacobs responded by saying that his schedule with WWE is “sporadic,” that it isn’t different than if he had any other job, and that it doesn’t have an impact on his preparation. He also left the door open to still make special appearances for WWE if he wins the election.

“After I am elected mayor, I’ll be mayor. (Though) I may still do a few special things,” Jacobs said. “I’ve done it for 23 years now and have quite a history, it’ll always be part of my life. I think the question is, if I am taking it seriously, and of course I am. I wouldn’t (be running) if not.

“I’m sure some people will say that (I’m not focused) and some others will say that’s the coolest thing ever,” Jacobs said. “Again, you can’t make everyone happy. You just do what you can and that’s it….you’re always going to catch criticism no matter what you do.”

The past two mayors of Knox County, who are both Republicans, spoke supportively of Jacobs in the News Sentinel’s article.

Jacobs won May’s Republican primary by just 23 votes but is expected to easily defeat Haney in the August 2 election. Before it takes place, Kane & Daniel Bryan will be challenging for The Bludgeon Brothers’ SmackDown Tag Team titles at Extreme Rules in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on July 15.

Kane declares victory in close Knox County mayoral primary

While there are still provisional votes to be counted, Glenn Jacobs (Kane) has declared victory in his bid to become the Republican candidate for mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.

Jacobs ended tonight with a 17-vote lead over second-place finisher Brad Anders. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, he received 14,633 votes to Anders’ 14,616. Bob Thomas came in third with 11,296 votes.

There are 43 provisional ballots remaining, with election officials set to decide if they’re eligible to be added to the count. Of those votes, 38 are due to the voter not having a record of registration, four are due to not having photo identification, and one person had to vote by paper because of a problem with the electronic system.

The provisional votes will be counted this Thursday. Anders has yet to address the subject of a recount.

Jacobs’ campaign declared victory after tonight’s results, “Glenn, along with his family, volunteers and supporters declare victory in a hard-fought Knox County Mayoral race this evening. Together we won! Tomorrow, we move forward.”

Jacobs himself also sent a message to everyone who has supported him, “Thanks to everyone who helped win this historic victory!! The people who cast a ballot for me, my great team, my wonderful volunteers. Looking forward to VICTORY in the general election!”

That general election will take place on August 2nd, and the Republican candidate will be the overwhelming favorite to become the next mayor. While this isn’t always an accurate representation of how the general election will turn out, Democratic primary winner Linda Haney received 4,250 votes tonight — over 10,000 less than Jacobs.

Jacobs didn’t travel to Saudi Arabia for last Friday’s Greatest Royal Rumble and had been making his final primary push over the last few days. His most recent in-ring appearance was in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 34.
