On the DragonKingKarl Show this week, you and I need to talk shop for a bit.

The wrestling landscape is changing and has especially changed drastically over the last five years. Along with that, the wrestling fan has also changed considerably.

When I first started hosting shows for this website over 15 years ago, the classic wrestling podcast listener was also way different than the one today.

The entire landscape both in and out of the ring has changed. So, what kind of fan are you and what are you looking for when it comes to listening to pro wrestling history?

Plus, we continue our look at wrestling history at Madison Square Garden and the later days of Ed “Strangler” Lewis.

DragonKingKarl Classic Wrestling Show: The history of the American Heavyweight title

This week’s DKK Classic Wrestling Show is a 1000 Hours edition focusing on pioneers of pro wrestling and taking a look back at one of the earliest and most important championships of the pioneer era: the American Heavyweight title.

It was a time when it seemed like every wrestler billed themselves as “champion of America” in some form or other. But what can we deduce about the actual championship of America that led eventually to Tom Jenkins, Frank Gotch, and becoming tied into the George Hackenschmidt World heavyweight title?

Let’s talk about it on hour 19 of 1000 Hours.

DragonKingKarl Classic Wrestling Show: The original Trust Busters at MSG

A very interesting era greets us on this edition of my history of wrestling at MSG series on the DragonKingKarl Classic Wrestling Show.

We are moving away from Earl Caddock into the Ed “Strangler” Lewis era and there are those out there who are not pleased with the wrestling trust. Marin Plestina is giving the trust trouble, but ran up against John Pesek. Joe Stecher began to show signs of future problems that would plague him for the rest of his life. Tex Rickard and Al Haft bumped heads…and more.

Enjoy this packed edition of the history of pro wrestling at Madison Square Garden series and be sure to check out the archives for past shows.
