Here’s my ultimate history timeline for the entire year of 1982 as a companion.

DragonKing Karl True Crime Wrestling Stories: The case of Mr. Wrestling 2, pt. 3

On today’s third and final part of this pro wrestling true crime series on Mr. Wrestling 2, we find out the ultimate disposition of John F. Walker’s case, what he actually ended up being sentenced for and what that means.

So, what did Mr. Wrestling 2 actually do? He was arrested but the newspapers give little indication of what was happening through the court process.

We also find out what happened to everyone else involved, including what happened to them later in life. We talk more about the Black Dahlia and we re-examine the Jimmy Carter inauguration story in a new light.

Enjoy part three and please check out the first two parts if you have yet to do so.

DragonKingKarl Classic Wrestling Show: ICW 1986 TV review

Have I got a special treat for you today: an episode of Joe Savoldi’s International Championship Wrestling from a winter 1986 TV taping.

Watch along on YouTube.

I call this episode “Daddy Issues” because it is full of sons and fathers and various issues. Cpl. Terry Daniels (apparently promoted from Private) is looking for his deadbeat dad and needs your help (I’m not making this up), Angelo Savoldi wants you to know about his sons who are helping him run this joint, and the one and only George Gulas bought commercial time on this very program to tell about his dad. And when Daddy says sell, you better get to selling.

Also, you’ll see wrestling with Ron Sexton, Austin Idol, Kevin Sullivan, Purple Haze, and Ken Timbs, hosted by this very website’s Les Thatcher.

DragonKingKarl Classic Wrestling Show: Manhattan Opera Tournament

Pictured: Mort “Masked Marvel” Henderson

Good grief Charlie Brown has Karl Stern got a show for you today. If you thought goofy gimmicks and outlandish Memphis-style wrestling was a 1970s southern invention, then let me introduce you to the 1915 Manhattan Opera House International Tournament. This tournament featured masked men, an investigative newspaper, a hypnotist gimmick, and much more.

Topics covered on this week’s show —

  • Frank Gotch is still the unbeaten World Champion but is dodging new “World Champion” Joe Stecher.
  • Joe Stecher wins a version of the World Championship and repeatedly challenges Frank Gotch.
  • Ed “Strangler” Lewis uses some weird Scott Steiner math to declare himself World Champion also.
  • The International Tournament takes place at the Manhattan Opera House and it rivals a Saturday morning edition on CWA Memphis wrestling in absolute gimmickry.
  • A wrestler debuts a gimmick using mind control to break holds.
  • The Masked Marvel drives a newspaper crazy.
  • The mystery of Alexander Aberg.

This is a packed edition of the DragonKingKarl Classic Wrestling Show, so check it out!

DragonKingKarl Classic Wrestling Show: WON Hall of Fame review

On this episode, host Karl Stern looks at the four inductees into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame for 2016 — Sting, Daniel Bryan, Gene Okerlund, and Col. James H. McLaughlin.

Not a lot of time is spent on McLaughlin since we have covered him so in-depth on the last seven shows, so time is spent with Bryan, Sting, and Okerlund, as well as those who didn’t make it this time around.

  • Daniel Bryan’s place in history as a draw and a performer, and why he’s so different from every other candidate.
  • The problem of John Cena.
  • Gene Okerlund as one of the greatest interviews in wrestling history, his chemistry with Hulk Hogan, and his place in history.
  • The controversial choice of Sting for the Hall of Fame. What is Sting’s real legacy? And the night it all fell apart at WCW Starrcade.
  • How to find out more about Col. James H. McLaughlin.
  • Discussion about those who didn’t make it in including Cien Caras, Huracan Ramirez, Sgt. Slaughter, Curt Hennig, Big Daddy (yes Big Daddy), Junkyard Dog, Bearcat Wright, Kerry Von Erich, and goodbye Volk Han.
