Former WWE commentator Carlos Cabrera signs with AEW

Longtime Spanish-language announcer Carlos Cabrera has signed with AEW.

During Wednesday’s Dynamite, Tony Khan confirmed on X that Cabrera will be joining AEW’s announce team.

“Welcome to the @AEW commentary team tonight on Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite!,” Khan wrote. “Carlos Cabrera is All Elite!”

Cabrera is best known for being the voice of WWE’s Spanish-language commentary team for years, dating back to 1994. Throughout his run in WWE, he did commentary with Ed Trucco, Hugo Savinovich, and later Marcelo Rodriguez. He also hosted the Spanish-language program WWE en Espanol, which recapped WWE shows including Raw and SmackDown. Cabrera was let go in February of 2022 after nearly 30 years with the company.

Days after his release from WWE, he did commentary for AAA’s Rey de Reyes event, reuniting with Savinovich.

Born in Bogota, Colombia, Cabrera was a newsman and radio personality before joining WWE. He is an ACE award-winning voice-over announcer in both television and radio.

Carlos Cabrera appears at AAA Rey de Reyes, joins commentary team

Just days after reports came out he was released from WWE, longtime announcer Carlos Cabrera appeared on AAA Rey de Reyes tonight, joining the commentary booth.

Cabrera appeared prior to the start of the three-way trios match between La Empresa (Puma King, Sam Adonis, and DMT Azul), La Familia Real (LA Park, El Hijo de LA Park, and LA Park Jr.), and Nueva Generación Dinamita (El Cuatrero, Sanson, and Forastero). He joined Hugo Savinovich and José Manuel Guillén on commentary to call the match.

It was reported on February 17 that Cabrera was released from WWE after being with the company for 29 years. He had been the longtime Spanish language announcer, starting in 1994 and continued to be the voice of WWE’s Spanish language commentary with Marcelo Rodriguez up until recently. Savinovich had previously been Cabrera’s longtime commentary partner through 2011, when Savinovich was let go by WWE.

With Cabrera gone from WWE, Rodriguez will take over as the lead play-by-play announcer, with Jerry Soto as his partner.

WWE fires longtime Spanish-language announcer Carlos Cabrera

Longtime WWE Spanish language announcer Carlos Cabrera is no longer with the company after 29 years.

Hugo Savinovich of Lucha Libre Online first reported the news Thursday. He worked alongside Cabrera in WWE from 1994 through 2011 and was replaced by Marcelo Rodriguez after his own dismissal.

Cabrera also worked with Ed Trucco during his tenure.

No reason was given for why WWE decided now was the time to part ways with the 62-year-old Colombian. According to LLO, Rodríguez will now take over the lead play-by-play role with Jerry Soto as his partner.

It’s unknown whether Rodriguez will take the lead play-by-play role over or who his new broadcast partner will be.

He was the announcer for the Spanish language versions of WWE programming like Raw, SmackDown, NXT and pay-per-view events. He and Savinovich’s broadcast position (“the Spanish announce table”) was a frequent target of spots throughout the Attitude Era and in subsequent years.

Before joining WWE, Cabrera was an ACE award-winning voice-over announcer in both TV and radio.
