Bronson Rechsteiner makes WWE NXT debut, defeats LA Knight

Tonight’s premiere of “NXT 2.0” featured the WWE in-ring debut of the son of a pro wrestling legend.

Bronson Rechsteiner made his debut on tonight’s NXT, defeating LA Knight in the opening match of the show. Rechsteiner is using the name “Bron Breakker” in WWE. He had changed his name on social media to “Rex Steiner” last week before then changing his handle to Bron Breaker.

Breakker got the win after lifting up Knight for a press slam and then turning it into a powerslam.

Breakker is the son of Rick Steiner and the nephew of Scott Steiner. He signed with WWE as part of the group of recruits that reported to the Performance Center this February.

Breakker played college football at Kennesaw State University. Breakker, who played fullback, signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2020 but was cut before the start of the season.

NXT 2.0 is WWE’s revamp of the NXT brand. Knight is facing Pete Dunne, Tommaso Ciampa, and Kyle O’Reilly in a fatal four-way match later in tonight’s show to determine a new NXT Champion. The title was vacated by Samoa Joe due to injury.

Breakker interrupted a promo by Knight at the start of tonight’s show. Breakker introduced himself to Knight and said he wanted a chance to prove himself. Knight promised to become NXT Champion but said he’d defeat Breakker first.

Bronson Rechsteiner, Parker Boudreaux reveal new WWE names

Bronson Rechsteiner and Parker Bordeaux have new WWE names.

Rechsteiner, the son of Rick Steiner, changed his social media handle to Rex Steiner while Boudreaux announced his new name as Gunnar Harland.

Both were signed by WWE earlier this year.

The company has trademarked several names in the last few days including Tony D’Angelo, Trick Williams and Dante Chen but it’s unknown who will be using those names.

Steph De Lander, who made her NXT TV debut this past week as a friend of Indi Hartwell, is now going under the name Persia Perotta.

NXT is set to undergo new changes as part of a revamp that will start with this Tuesday’s live show that will feature a wedding between Hartwell and Dexter Lumis; NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez vs. Franky Monet, and a fatal four-way match between Tommaso Ciampa, LA Knight, Kyle O’Reilly, and Pete Dunne where the winner will become the next challenger for NXT Champion Samoa Joe.

Rick Steiner’s son signs NFL contract with Baltimore Ravens

The man once known as “The Dog Faced Gremlin” might have to adjust his nickname after his son signed his first NFL deal with a different kind of animal.

Bronson Rechsteiner, a fullback with Kennesaw State (Georgia) is one of 20 undrafted rookies that will be signed by the Baltimore Ravens over the next few weeks. He is the son of Rick Steiner, former WCW and WWE tag team champion, and the nephew of former WCW triple crown champion Scott Steiner.

The news drew plenty of praise from those in wrestling including Jim Ross and Eric Bischoff while Scott joked on Twitter, “141 2/3% chance this was a great pick!!!”

The 6’0″, 230-pound Rechsteiner led the Owls with 909 rushing yards in 2019 and hit 35 bench press reps at the college’s pro day, which would have been third best at the NFL Combine. An ESPN article mentioned that it will be hard for Rechsteiner to earn a spot on the team given they have a Pro Bowl fullback already, but that he has talked about becoming a pro wrestler in the past.

His father and uncle were standout amateur wrestlers at the University of Michigan, but never played football. Rechsteiner is one of three sons for the 59-year-old Rick who currently sells real estate.
