Tony Khan has spoken regarding the Mark Briscoe/Jay Lethal match made for Wednesday’s Dynamite.

On the Battleground Podcast, Khan said that he ‘fought hard’ in order to get the match approved. He also said that both Briscoe and Lethal requested the match, which will take place on what would be Jay Briscoe’s 39th birthday.

“It’s going to be a great match honoring a great man,” Khan said. “These men requested this match. Wednesday will be the 39th birthday of the late, great Jay Briscoe and his longtime friend and rival Jay Lethal and his brother Mark Briscoe wanted to honor the legacy of Jay Briscoe and I fought hard to make it happen and I’m really excited about the match.”

“I think it’s great that they’re gonna be able to honor the legacy of somebody that everybody in pro wrestling has so much respect for,” Khan added. “This is going to be something really great for everybody in the locker room who is rallying around the Briscoe family.”

It had been reported that although under ROH contract, The Briscoe Brothers were not allowed to appear on AEW television by Warner Bros. Discovery due to past homophobic tweets made by Jay Briscoe that he had long since apologized for. Dave Meltzer reported Tuesday morning that WBD had reversed course, allowing AEW to pay tribute to Jay Briscoe and for Mark to appear on their television moving forward.

The Briscoes to challenge for GCW Tag Team titles at War Ready

Following a confrontation this past weekend, The Briscoes will challenge for the GCW Tag Team titles.

Game Changer Wrestling announced tonight that The Briscoes will challenge the Second Gear Crew (Mance Warner and Matthew Justice) for the titles at War Ready, which will take place in Los Angeles on October 23 at the Ukrainian Cultural Center.

Mark and Jay Briscoe appeared at Saturday’s GCW Fight Club event after Mance Warner declared no one from any company could meet their challenge for GCW’s tag titles. The Briscoes arrived and the two teams stared down one another, with announcers speculating when the match would take place. Warner and Justice have held the GCW Tag Team titles since July 24, defeating G-Raver and Jimmy Lloyd.

Matches announced for War Ready include Minoru Suzuki vs. Nick Gage, Jonathan Gresham vs. Alex Zayne, and Jacob Fatu and Juicy Finau vs. Chris Dickinson and Starboy Charlie. Psycho Clown will also make his GCW debut on the show.

The Briscoes appear at GCW Fight Club

The Briscoe Brothers appeared on GCW Fight Club tonight, challenging the GCW Tag Team Champions.

Jay and Mark Briscoe challenged Matthew Justice and Mance Warner after they, along with AJ Gray, defeated Alex Colon, G-Raver, and Akira in a six-man tag match. Warner cut a promo after the match saying that there weren’t any tag teams in pro wrestling that could challenge them. That brought out the Briscoes, who immediately confronted the champions and answered their challenge. Announcers speculated when the match could happen.

The Briscoe Brothers have established themselves as Ring Of Honor’s top tag team, having regularly competed for the company dating back to its inception in 2002. They have held the ROH Tag Team titles eleven times. They also found success in New Japan Pro Wrestling, having won the IWGP Tag Team titles and the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team titles with Toru Yano.

GCW will run another show at the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Sunday, a show headlined by Minrou Suzuki facing Joey Janela in the main event.
