Alex Abrahantes comments on AEW departure

Alex Abrahantes is speaking out following his AEW departure.

On social media, Abrahantes thanked both AEW and Tony Khan for letting him live his dream for the last six years. It was reported on Monday that his contract with AEW wasn’t renewed.

“For over six years, I have been able to live my dream. And I am so grateful for a W, I’m so grateful that Tony gave me the opportunity to do so, and I didn’t want to step away without saying thank you,” he said.

He also gave a message to others who hope to fulfill their own dreams someday: don’t let other people’s criticisms get in your way.

“When I was younger, I made a vow that someday I’d make it and share this same exact message with you that if you work hard, believe in yourself, and don’t take the criticisms of others and don’t let what other people believe or think about you hold you down and kill your dreams,” he said. “I can tell you from experience, reaching your dream is 100% worth it. There’s gonna be ups, there’s gonna be downs, but as long as you believe in yourself, as long as you work hard, as long as you’re a good person, and as long as you never give up, you’re going to see those dreams come true and trust me, it’s totally worth it.”

Abrahantes joined AEW in 2019 as a Spanish language announcer. In 2021, his role with the company exapanded as he became the manager for the Lucha Brothers. When they left AEW, Abrahantes continued as a manager for Komander as well as CMLL talent including Mistico and Mascara Dorada.

Three departures from AEW roster

The beginning of 2026 has seen three names depart the AEW roster.

Matt Taven, Mercedes Martinez, and Alex Abrahantes are no longer listed on the AEW roster page as of today (January 5), and Fightful confirmed that all three have departed the promotion. Martinez had already indicated that she was no longer with AEW while announcing last week that 2026 would be her final year as a full-time active wrestler.

Martinez noted that she would have “no contracts” in 2026 and would be dedicating the year to competing on the indies. She is aiming to give back to the younger generation by passing on everything she’s learned. A veteran wrestler who also has experience in WWE, Martinez signed with AEW in 2021 but has not wrestled for the company in some time.

Taven is a former ROH World Champion and ROH Tag Team Champion. One of the top stars in ROH at the end of the Sinclair Broadcast Group era, he continued to be featured on the ROH brand after signing with AEW in 2022.

As of now, Mike Bennett — Taven’s tag team partner in The Kingdom — is still on the AEW roster page.

A member of the Spanish-language broadcast team while with AEW, Abrahantes was an on-screen character as a manager to The Lucha Bros and Komander.
