**********

The Dogs (David Finlay, Clark Connors, & Gabe Kidd) vs. Mistico & Jet Speed (Kevin Knight & Mike Bailey) for the AEW World Trios Championship

The Dogs attacked the champions immediately, and Gabe Kidd mocked Mike Bailey, who responded with a hurricanrana, but as he went to dive to the floor, Clark Connors attacked from behind. Connors and Knight started to exchange move attempts, but after several counters, Connors went to the floor. David Finlay and Mistico faced off, but Finlay was caught, and Connors came back in, but ate a hurricanrana from Mistico. Gabe Kidd and Mistico then started fighting in the middle of the ring, and everyone came in and started fighting.

I am guessing this match is going with lucha style rules based on the fact that there have been zero tags as of yet. Mistico hit a pescado on Finlay on the floor, and the action continued around ringside with some brawling, which Mistico shockingly embraced, biting Finlay and hitting Finlay with several hard strikes. The champions all went back to the ring and tried for stereo dives, but The Dogs pulled Bailey and Mistico from the ring, and Connors attacked King before he could dive. Kidd slammed Bailey on the floor, and they went to commercial break.

As we came back, Kevin Knight was escaping the heel beatdown and Mistico came in with the hot tag, running wild and taking everyone down, ending with hitting Clark Connors with a flying armdrag. All three of the champs hit stereo tope suicidas to the floor on The Dogs. This did not last long for an advantage as Finlay hit a Dominator on Knight which led to Connors spearing him, but Bailey broke up the pinfall attempt. Bailey ran wild and took everyone out, allowing Mistico to hit La Mistica on Connors. Knight went for the UFO splash on Finlay, but Finlay got the knees up.

Gabe Kidd ran in and broke up the submission on Connors and hit a piledriver on Kidd, but as he went for another one, Mike Bailey hit Ultima Weapon on Kidd, and after exchanging some strikes, he was able to get a close pinfall attempt on Kidd, but it was broken up. Connors hit Bailey with a spear and Kidd took off Knight’s head with lariat. Kidd hit a piledriver on Bailey and sent him back into a suplex by Finlay, who picked up Bailey and Connors flew off the ropes with a spear on the elevated Bailey for the pinfall win!

Result: The Dogs defeated Mistico & Jet Speed for the AEW World Trios Championship

–Roderick Strong and Orange Cassidy were backstage, and interrupted the celebration saying that they knew they were down a man, but that they had a tag partner and were going to face The Dogs at AEW Dynasty. Orange Cassidy was on the phone with said partner, but forgot to ask him to be a part of the match. He walked away calling him back.

–The United Empire were backstage and Ospreay said that while Death Riders had the numbers up until that point, but Ospreay called his brothers, Francisco Akira, Henrae, and his little brother Callum Newman, the youngest IWGP Heavyweight Champion in history, will be there to back Ospreay up. Newman confirmed that while the Empire may have differences every now and then, they absolutely would be there to backup Ospreay. I think The United Empire is turning on Ospreay at AEW Dynasty.

–Hikaru Shida and Kris Statlander were backstage, and Shida talked about teaming with Statlander, noting that her and Statlander went back to the very start of AEW and since Statlander refused to team with Cameron, Shida would be her partner.

Kris Statlander & Hikaru Shida vs. Ava Lawless & Gigi Ray

Hikaru Shida started aggressively attacking Lawless at the start of the match, but Statlander blind tagged in, and Shida looked like her thunder was stolen. Statlander hit Staturday Night Fever on Ray, and pinned her, but Shida did not look happy.

–Shida looked like she was going to attack Statlander from behind, but as Statlander turned, Shida smiled and hugged her.

-A hype video for Hyan and Maya World aired. It seems them choosing to do business is working out well for them.

–The Death Riders were backstage after their match against The United Empire, and Moxley commented on how fun the chaos of that match was (and it certainly was for me as a viewer). Moxley said that AEW Dynasty was going to be a different story, with Ospreay having to survive 20 minutes with Moxley on a neck that was shaky at best. Excellent promo from Moxley. Moxley said it was “us against the world” and Garcia reaffirmed this as Moxley left the camera shot. Okay, I’m also getting the sense that the Death Riders are turning on Moxley.

The question is – will either group turn? Will both? Will neither? But there is clearly being tension seeded here slowly (as AEW often does, as they take their time. So metimes too much time).

Rush vs. Anthony Bowens for the #2 Spot in the Casino Gauntlet

Rush and Bowens immediately started hitting hard strikes. Rush has a way of bringing that out of people by hitting them very hard. Bowens responded with some hard shots of his own, and the action spilled to the floor and Rush and Bowens started brawling around ringside. Bowens sent Rush crashing into the barricade, and started smashing Rush’s head into the steps.

When they came back from break, Bowens was still in control, but soon ate an Irish whip reversal and splash in the corner by Rush. Rush then hit a dropkick to the back of Bowens head before stiffing him with several kicks. Bowens and Rush then exchanged hard chops. It broke back down to forearms in the middle of the ring, but Rush ducked under a forearm and hit an Olympic slam for a 2-count.

Bowens hit a DDT and got a 2-count. Bowens charged the corner and Rush hit a belly-to-belly into the corner before going for The Horns, but Bowens got up, hit a chop, a superkick, and a running knee for a 2-count. Rush did not take kindly to this and was soon stomping Bowens in the corner before going for the Horns again. This time he hit it and got the pinfall, so the AEW Casino Gauntlet is starting with Tommaso Ciampa at #1 and Rush at #2 tomorrow at AEW Dynasty for the TNT Championship.

Result: Rush defeated Anthony Bowens

–The Brawling Birds were backstage, cutting a promo on Marina Shafir and Thekla, with Alex Windsor promising that she would break Marina’s neck before Ospreay breaks Mox’s so they wouldn’t be alone in the hospital. Jamie Hayter talked about how the title was her life, and she was going take it from Thekla.

–An excellent hype video aired for MJF vs. Kenny Omega.

The Hurt Syndicate (Bobbly Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) (w/ MVP) vs. Andy Anderson & Mo Jabari

This did not go well for our two local talents, as they were utterly crushed as the crowd cheered Hurt Syndicate, popping huge for everything they did.

Result: The Hurt Syndicate defeated Andy Anderson & Mo Jabari

–I love a good squash. This was a very good squash. It reminded me of Vader on WCW Saturday Night when I was a kid.

–Mina Shirakawa and Harley Cameron were backstage sitting on a couch, and Lexy Nair sat down with them. They both noted that they were alone, both started drinking, looking depressed, as Cameron was refused by Statlander, and Shirakawa was missing Toni Storm.

The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) vs. The Don Callis Family (Hechicero & El Clon) (w/ Rockey Romero)

As one would expect, this match was very fast paced, with the Bucks working seamlessly with the luchadors. The Bucks were incredible popular with the crowd, getting some of the loudest reactions of the night, but it turned around when Clon hit a powerbomb into a knee to the face on Matt Jackson. Hechicero rolled Nick Jackson around the ring while Matt Jackson was tied up in the ropes by El Clon. I am not certain they were the legal men, but Rick Knox counted the near fall anyway. Matt Jackson skinned the cat into the ring into a Destino on Hechicero and then hit a flipping stunner off the apron onto Clon.

Hechicero hit a flying knee on Nick Jackson as Matt came back into the ring and then hit a crazy Black Hole Slam on Matt Jackson as they went to the ad break. As they came back, Matt Jackson caught Clon coming off the ropes and hit two stereo Northern Lights suplexes on Clon, then one more on both Clon and Hechicero. Jackson sold his back, calling back to his worked back injury from NJPW from around 8 or 9 years ago, which he still sells to this day. Nick Jackson tagged in and ran wild, running up the ropes holding Clon’s hand and hitting a hurricanrana on Hechicero who was on the ropes. Jackson then hit a Canadian Destroyer on Hechicero, and the Bucks locked in stereo sharpshooters on Clon and Hechicero.

Clon and Hechicero did a Matrix style duck of superkicks from the Bucks, linked the arms of the Bucks together, flipped them on their heads, and did stereo jackknife pinfalls on them for a 2-count. That was a fun spot. All four men got up and hit clotheslines, falling to the mat. Hechicero did a guillotine headscissors on Nick Jackson. Matt Jackson went for a superkick on Clon, but it was a feint and let Jackson hit a DDT, but Clon popped up. The Bucks then killed him with a series of superkicks. Hechicero locked a submission on Matt Jackson, but he managed to escape and Nick Jackson hit a frog splash. Hechicero ducked under a BTE Trigger, but got sent to the floor. Clon went for a plancha to both men, but they caught him and set up the Meltzer Driver. Nick Jackson superkicked Hechicero while on the apron and did the same to Rocky Romero before hitting the Meltzer Driver on Clon for the win.

Result: The Young Bucks defeated the Don Callis Family

This was the best match of the night thus far, as it usually is when the Young Bucks wrestle. Matt Jackson noted to the camera on the on the way out of the ring that “those guys are pretty good!” and I would agree. Fantastic match.

–The return of Chris Jericho was recapped here.

Kazuchika Okada (w/ Don Callis & Lance Archer) vs. Myron Reed (w/ Zachery Wentz & Dezmond Xavier) for the AEW International Championship

Okada went right after Reed, but got baited into an attack because Reed did not land on the floor, but the apron, when sent to the floor. Reed hit an enziguri and a moonsault, but Okada kicked out before even a 1 count. Reed hit a superkick and went for a monkey flip in the corner, but Okada countered and set him on the top rope. Okada hit the dropkick and sent Reed to the floor, and they went to break.

When the came back, Okada spiked Myron Reed on his head with a DDT for a 2-count. Okada went for a vertical suplex, but Reed countered it into a stunner that dropped Okada. Reed hit a guillotine legdrop on Okada, who was draped on the middle ropes. Reed then hit a giant dive over the top rope dropping Okada to the mat on the ground. Okada countered a springboard with a neckbreaker, and then hit an elbow off the top rope. Okada went for a tombstone, but Reed countered out and got Okada on the apron. Reed hit the ropes and hit an incredible cutter over the top rope and off the apron on Okada. Reed went for a springboard 450 back in the ring, but Okada got the knees up. Reed ducked under a Rainmaker, but got countered into a tombstone from Okada, who then nailed Reed with a Rainmaker for the pinfall.

Result: Kazuchika Okada defeated Myron Reed

Another great match here. Collision has had three tremendous matches so far this night, with the Trios championship, the Bucks vs. The Callis Family, and Okada vs. Reed.

–Willow Nightingale was backstage and said that she was taking the title Tony Schiavone gave her – The Comeback Killer – seriously, and she made an open challenge to anyone that wanted to return to AEW form injury or if they were away for awhile. Maybe we’ll see Mercedes return to challenger her at the PPV?

–Divine Dominion were backstage, saying that their tag titles meant they were the best. Lena Kross said that Hyan and Maya World caught their attention with the previous video. Megan Bayne then said they were gracious champions, and would grant them a title shot at AEW Zero hour, but make sure they knew they were beneath them.

Thekla & Marina Shafir vs. The Brawling Birds (Alex Windsor & Jamie Hayter)

This immediately broke into a wild brawl at ringside, with bodies flying everywhere into barricades. One of the fans encouraged Thekla to continue to attack Hayter with the barricade, so she did. Thekla slammed Hayter’s face into the announce table and asked the announcers how they were doing, which Tony responded with “Great!” which made me laugh. Alex Windsor wheelbarrowed Shafir onto the apron and then threw her in the ring so the match actually started.

At least one fan booed at this, because he wanted the brawls to continue. That is not how wrestling works, good sir! Well, it does, but still. Shafir was not down and out for long, and hit a German suplex on Windsor as they went to an ad break. The came back from the break with Alex Windsor in pain, and Marina Shafir standing nearby, so I presume she was involved in said pain. Windsor trapped Shafir in the ropes, dropkicked her, and hit a DDT before tagging out to Hayter who ran in and hit a German suplex on Shafir.

Hayter hit a dropkick on Shafir and used her head to try and roll Shafir over. Shafir took advantage of this and locked on a guillotine. Hayter turned this into a pin attempt, so Shafir broke the submission, kicked Hayter, and tagged Thekla in. Thekla locked an octopus stretch on Hayter, but as Shafir tried to lock on a toe hold on Windsor, Windsor kicked Shafir into Thekla to break the submission. All 4 women exchanged big moves before Thekla hit a forearm and Hayter responded with a headbutt that knocked both to the mat. Both women tagged out and Shafir and Windsor started exchanging hard strikes. Windsor stomped on the foot of Shafir, letting her pick her up and hit the Two Birds, One Stone on Shafir, for the pinfall.

Result: The Brawling Birds defeated Marina Shafir & Thekla

Final Thoughts:

This was an excellent main event tag match, though not as good as the Bucks and Hechicero & El Clon, but it was up there with the other three good matches. However, what made the most sense here for me was Hayter pinning Thekla to setup their title match, rather than having Shafir pinned, making her look weak facing Windsor on the PPV. That said, that is a nitpick. Excellent main event for an excellent show tonight, in terms of in ring action.

*********************************

It’s Sunday night and you know what that means. We didn’t waste any time as we got our opening match started for the second half of Collision.

Orange Cassidy & Roderick Strong vs. The Lethal Twist (Jay Lethal & Lee Johnson) (w/ Blake Christian)

Lethal put Cassidy’s jacket on Johnson prior to the match after it was thrown aside as he and Strong got the match going.

Lethal did his Ric Flair strut to taunt Strong before the two got in a bit of chain wrestling going early on in this match. On commentary, Tony Schiavone mentioned the passing of Dennis Condry and wished his family condolences. Strong threw Lethal to his team’s corner and Cassidy tagged in. Strong grabbed Cassidy and threw him into a prone Lethal in the corner. As Strong held Lethal in place, Cassidy got on the top rope and then decided to hit a lackadaisical elbow.

Lethal tagged in Johnson as the two hit a nice double team move on Cassidy. Meanwhile, Cassidy attempted a Beach Break but Johnson countered it. The two exchanged standing switches for a bit until Cassidy escaped a full nelson by putting his hands in his pockets. In true Cassidy fashion, Orange hit his signature hands-in-pocket dropkick on Johnson. When he tried to do the same on Lethal, he was caught instead. Strong got clotheslined outside by Lethal, as Johnson intercepted Cassidy’s attempted dive with a hard lariat. Outside the ring, Blake Christian was now sporting Cassidy’s Canadian tuxedo. In the ring, Johnson dropped Cassidy with a vertical suplex for a two-count as we went to a break.

Back from the break as Cassidy tried to reach out to his corner for a tag. Lethal tagged in, which allowed him and Johnson to batter Cassidy with consecutive chops, followed by a Blake Christian attack on Cassidy in a tree-of-woe position while the referee was distracted. The Lethal Twist continued their control over this match as they attempted a double team move. However, Cassidy fought out of th predicament as he sent Lethal over the ropes and dodged a running charge from Johnson. After a struggle, Caasidy finally tagged in Strong, who unleashed a flurry of offense on Johnson and Lethal, with backbreakers and back suplexes galore. Olympic Slam on Johnson by Strong only managed to get a two-count. Johnson pushed Strong onto the corner, while Cassidy was prepping for a diving attack. This allowed Johnson and Lethal to hit double team dives on Cassidy. Strong broke up the count by pushing Lethal onto Johnson.

Cassidy countered a Lethal suplex into a Stundog Millionaire as Strong again grabbed Cassidy and threw him onto Lethal. Johnson fell victim to an End of Heartache from Strong in the ring, as Cassidy got the pin and win for the team.

After the match, Strong got on the microphone and said that he owed Cassidy and everyone an explanation. He talked about how he took the time to understand that the change that needed to happen was within himself. As such, Strong officially declared himself a member of The Conglomeration.

They were interrupted by David Finlay and Clark Connors of The Dogs on the big screen. Finlay said that the closer The Dogs were to death, the more they felt alive. Connors then issued a challenge to Cassidy and Strong to a match on Dynamite this Wednesday.

Orange Cassidy & Roderick Strong def. The Lethal Twist via pinfall

A solid opener for this second half of Collision. I enjoyed this a great deal and Roddy officially joining the Conglomeration and immediately getting into a tag match against The Dogs for this Wednesday was nice to see.

– Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron challenged the new AEW Women’s Tag Champions, the Divine Dominion, to a rematch for the belts.

The Divine Dominion (Lena Kross & Megan Bayne) vs. Alex Gracia vs. Vipress

Bayne easilly withstood Vipress’s attempt at a running attack as she then took her foe to the Divine Dominion corner. Kross tagged in, which allowed her and Bayne to dominate with running attacks to a hapless Kross.

The AEW Women’s Tag Champions then showed their dominace with stereo fallaway slams and lariats on Gracia and Vipress. With Gracia out of the way, Bayne and Kross put an end to this with a double chokeslam and a pin on Vipress.

The Divine Dominion def. Alex Gracia & Vipress via pinfall

Not really much to say with regards to this match as it was basically a showcase for the new AEW Women’s Tag Champs, who are definitely gelling well in this role as a dominant tag team. Nothing wrong with a squash match to show that.

“Psycho Killer” Tommaso Ciampa vs. Lio Rush

Rush stared at Ciampa with a crazed smile on his face as he offered a handshake to him when the bell rang. Ciampa rejected, which prompted Rush to use an unorthodox running game to leave Ciampa confused with an attack that sent him outside. Rush then paced on all fours and hit a Gollum-like suicide dive to the outside to keep Ciampa grounded. Outside the ring, Ciampa dropped Rush on top of the barricade and hit a running knee to flatten him. As the action re-entered the ring, Rush hit a hurricanrana on Ciampa, followed with a clothesline. Ciampa dodged a shoulder attack from Rush, as he then sent him crashing into the ringpost. This stunned Rush long enough for Ciampa to dump him to the outside with another running knee. We took a break at this stage of the bout.

Slam Dunk Sunday returned from commercial as Ciampa was looking for a high-impact move, but Rush was just too fast and he hit his foe with an enzuigiri. Lio avoided a powerbomb and hit a low-angle springboard stunner on Ciampa for the near-fall. With Ciampa down on the mat, Rush headed up top for a high-risk move. Ciampa rolled out of the way and into the apron, as Rush responded with an attempted running attack. Ciampa dodged that and a thrust kick as he looked for Project Ciampa. Rush countered and hit two consecutive stunner-like manuevers on Ciampa, followed by a Blue Thunder powerbomb for the two-count.

Rush slithered back up to his feet as he and Ciampa exchanged strikes. Ciampa and Rush contributed to AEW’s growing biting epidemic as the two bit each other’s hands. Ciampa threw Rush with a hard Irish Whip into the corner, as he then followed this up with Project Ciampa. One, two… 2.99999999!!!!!!!!!!! Ciampa exposed his knee and absolutely pasted Rush with his deadly running knee strike for the victory.

Tommaso Ciampa def. Lio Rush via pinfall

This was a fantastic match between Rush and Ciampa, and I felt it was elevated significantly by Rush’s “new” character — which is a carryover of his “Blackheart” gimmick from the indies. I enjoyed how the character work informed Rush’s in-ring style and how that meshed with Ciampa. It made for an unexpectedly entertaining match here on Slam Dunk Sunday.

– A video promo hyping Omega vs. Strickland, plus the return of MJF for this Wednesday’s Dynamite was shown.

World Trios Championship: JetSpeed (Kevin Knight & “Speedball” Mike Bailey) (c) & Mistico vs. The Don Callis Family (Konosuke Takeshita, Josh Alexander, & El Clon)

Our main event got underway with Mistico and El Clon as the legal men for their respective teams. Alexander attacked Mistico from behind as Clon took out Bailey and Knight in the corner. The DCF got the upper hand here as they laid out Mistico and Knight at ringside. Back in the ring, Bailey was caught in a double team situation by Alexander and Clon. Knight tried to help out, but was felled by a scoop slam by Alexander to the knees of Clon. Mistico rejoined the match and hit Clon with a kick, followed by the hurricanrana from the apron. Mistco then took out Alexander and Takeshita with a double springboard elbow. Mistico held his own against Takeshita and Clon as the DCF was sent retreating to outside the ring. This led to Bailey, Knight, and Mistico hitting triple-stereo suicide dives on the DCF trio at ringside, which took us to a break in the action.

The main event returned from break as Clon was stomping away on Bailey before Takeshita tagged in to continue the attack. Takeshita tried for his clothesline, but Bailey met him with a superkick as both men went down and struggled to their corners. Knight tagged in and missed on a leaping attack as Takeshita dropped him with his Blue Thunder Bomb for a near-fall. In the corner, Takeshita set up Knight for a running knee, but he missed on it. Raging Fire attempt by Takeshita was turned into a DDT from Knight, as Mistico and Clon tagged in for their respective teams.

Clon hit a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for the near-fall on Mistico. On the apron, Clon was going for a springboard attack, but Mistico intercepted and walked across the ropes for a hurricanrana on Clon. Takeshita interrupted the count as Clon missed with the springboard moonsault and got sent out of the ring. Mistico leapt from the top rope and took down Takeshita and Clon with a double crossbody. In the ring, Knight tagged in and missed with a dive from the top rope. El Clon hit a Pele Kick on Knight as he then hit his unique running springboard moonsault for a two-count. Takeshita slid into the ring and tried to get involved, but Knight got him with the springboard clothesline. Mistico tagged in and eventually connected with La Mistica as Clon immediately tapped.

It should be noted that Josh Alexander sustained an injury in this match and was absent for the latter half.

JetSpeed & Mistico def. The Don Callis Family via pinfall to retain the AEW World Trios Titles

*********************************

A solid main event to wrap up Slam Dunk Sunday, and credit where its due for essentially having to come up with a way to keep the match going even with the aforementioned Josh Alexander injury pretty much forcing a new finish to be constructed on the fly. Mistico continues to show why he rightfully won the Wrestling Observer’s Wrestler of the Year Award for 2025 as he definitely shined even in this trios setting. I’d be up for seeing him and El Clon face off in singles action down the line.

As far as the rest of the night is concerned, Collision’s reputation as a “cozy wrestling” show that you can sit down and enjoy continued with this second half. Even after airing late after NCAA March Madness action, this episode was good and I enjoyed it from start to finish. It might not have been top-flight AEW action, but there was never a dull moment throughout and sometimes, even “just okay” isn’t inherently bad.
