Ever-Rise to make AEW debut in six-man tag match at Homecoming

The team formerly known as Ever-Rise in NXT will make their AEW debut at Wednesday’s Homecoming, announced via a promo on social media Tuesday night.

Going by 2.0, Matt Lee & Jeff Parker will team with indie standout Daniel Garcia against Jon Moxley, Eddie Kingston and Darby Allin as they said they wanted to call out the three baddest wrestlers on the roster.

Lee and Parker were released by WWE in June along with 12 other NXT and 205 Live talents. They had been in the company since 2019.

Garcia has been in AEW before as he’s worked four matches on Dark, both in singles and tag team action.

Here’s the card for Wednesday’s return to Jacksonville, Florida, as of now:

  • Cody Rhodes vs. Malakai Black
  • TNT Champion Miro vs. Lee Johnson title match
  • Jon Moxley, Eddie Kingston and Darby Allin vs. 2.0 and Daniel Garcia
  • Five Labours of Jericho, pt. 3: Chris Jericho vs. Juventud Guerrera where Jericho must win with a top rope move
  • Christian Cage vs. The Blade
  • The Bunny vs. Leyla Hirsch in a no. 1 contender’s match for the NWA Women’s title

Cody Rhodes AEW media call: Bray Wyatt, Rampage, death matches

Ahead of his Wednesday clash with the debuting Malakai Black at AEW Homecoming, AEW executive vice president Cody Rhodes talked to the media for nearly an hour Tuesday afternoon, hitting on a variety of topics but none related to CM Punk or Daniel Bryan,

Rhodes opened the call warning the media that he couldn’t speak to any rumors so to not ask him to address them.

He was asked about AEW’s potential interest in Bray Wyatt and while he said he couldn’t speak to their interest, he put Wyatt over as a creative talent and brought up how he was his NXT rookie during the time when NXT was a TV show. He referenced Matt Cardona’s GCW run as an example of how talent can fit in anywhere.

Regarding free agents and whether AEW is at their max, Rhodes said that to him, you have to go after talents that can make an impact. He also said it’s very fulfilling to know in just a few years, AEW has “set a table where more people can eat.”

He had no issues with the Chris Jericho/Nick Gage deathmatch despite some blowback from Domino’s. He said he wouldn’t expect to see that type of match every week, but that variety is good on their shows.

He said more news on Rampage should come out over the next week, but did reveal that the Rampage logo will be in the center of the mat — something he really likes.

TNT Champion Miro vs. Lee Johnson set for AEW Homecoming

The next challenger for TNT Champion Miro has been revealed.

During AEW Dark: Elevation Monday, the champion came out after Lee Johnson’s victory over Luther and gave him the news that he will get his shot at Homecoming on August 4th.

This will be Johnson’s first title opportunity in AEW. The win Monday got him back on the winning track after he lost to Jungle Boy recently, which snapped a six-match singles winning streak.

Since debuting in AEW in September, Miro is undefeated in singles action. Since defeating Darby Allin for the title in March, he is 4-0 in title defenses.

The only other match announced for the company’s return to Jacksonville, Florida, will see Malakai Black make his AEW in-ring debut against Cody Rhodes.

Malakai Black vs. Cody Rhodes announced for AEW Homecoming

Malakai Black vs. Cody Rhodes has been announced for AEW’s Homecoming edition of Dynamite on August 4th, announced during Wednesday’s Fyter Fest

The show is set for Jacksonville, Florida’s Daily’s Place — the first time they have returned to the arena since last month’s farewell show following the pandemic.

Black made his debut appearance on Dynamite back on July 7, interrupting an Arn Anderson promo. He knocked out Anderson with the Black Mass kick and when Rhodes went to check on him, Black laid out him out with the kick as well.

The following week, Rhodes called out Black on commentary for what he did and then called him out to the ring. Black initially responded to Rhodes via video from backstage, telling a story about a man killing his horse because it was crippled. Rhodes challenged Black to come out and fight. The lights went out and when they came back on, Black was in the ring. The two brawled with security coming in to separate them.

This is the only match announced for the show at this point.
