IWGP title eliminator match added to AEW Double or Nothing

An IWGP World title eliminator match has been added to the AEW Double or Nothing lineup.

AEW’s Tony Khan announced Thursday in a social media post that IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley will be in action at Double or Nothing in a World title eliminator bout against Konosuke Takeshita. Should Takeshita win, he will receive a future IWGP World title shot.

Moxley’s next IWGP World title defense is currently set for NJPW Dominion on Sunday, June 9 against EVIL. Since winning the title from Tetsuya Naito at Windy City Riot last month, Moxley has made successful defenses against Powerhouse Hobbs on Dynamite, Ren Narita at NJPW Wrestling Dontaku, and Shota Umino at NJPW Resurgence.

The updated lineup for Double or Nothing:

AEW Double or Nothing, Sunday, May 26, 7 p.m. Eastern time on pay-per-view —

  • AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland defends against Christian Cage
  • AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defends against Serena Deeb

  • IWGP World title eliminator: Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita

Darby Allin to replace Eddie Kingston at AEW Double or Nothing

Eddie Kingston is out, and Darby Allin is in.

It was announced on Wednesday that Eddie Kingston is out of Double or Nothing after suffering a leg injury at NJPW’s Resurgence event on Friday. After the main event between Kazuchika Okada and Dax Harwood, The Elite, Bryan Danielson, and Cash Wheeler all started to brawl. Allin then came out and made the save for FTR & Danielson, officially positioning himself as the new fourth man for FTR’s team.

After the show ended, Allin said he wasn’t 100 percent and thought a superplex spot by Harwood may have injured him even further. Bryan Alvarez, who was at the show, wrote on X:

Following the announcement that Kingston was out of the match on May 26 in Las Vegas, he posted a picture on Instagram wearing a huge leg brace, confirming his injury.

Footage from Resurgence was shown on Dynamite where Kingston smacked his leg on the barricade after taking a suplex off the apron and through a table from Gabe Kidd, who defeated Kingston to win the Strong Openweight title. After the match, The Young Bucks and Jack Perry attacked Kingston. After the footage was shown, The Elite was shown reacting to what had happened and figured that FTR and Danielson would fight 3 on 4, or forfeit the match for Double or Nothing.

Allin has been out of action since AEW Big Business in March when he injured his leg in a match against Jay White. During his recovery, he wrote on Instagram that he was also recovering after being hit by a bus.

Adam Copeland challenges Malakai Black for AEW Double or Nothing

Adam Copeland has challenged Malakai Black.

After defeating Kyle O’Reilly on Collision to retain the TNT title, Copeland appeared on Rampage behind steel and barbed wire. He mentioned his victories over Buddy Matthews and Brody King, and he next wanted to focus on Malakai Black, challenging him to a barbed wire steel cage match for the TNT title at AEW Double or Nothing on May 26 in Las Vegas.

Copeland has continued his feud with The House of Black following AEW Dynasty in April, when he lost a six-man tag team match to the stable, being pinned by Black. On Wednesday, Black said his goal would be to remind Copeland of the cold-hearted son of a b**** he was.

Copeland went on to defeat King in the main event of Dynamite. After the match, King attacked Copeland until O’Reilly came out for the save. Backstage, the two set up a title match for Collision, which took place in O’Reilly’s hometown of Edmonton, Canada.

World title match official for AEW Double or Nothing

Two title matches have been announced for next month’s Double or Nothing.

The start of AEW Dynamite saw Swerve Strickland come out and reiterate his words from Collision, calling what The Elite did to Tony Khan a “b**** move”. The Young Bucks backstage then introduced his challenger for Double or Nothing, Christian Cage, who came to the ring with the rest of The Patriarchy and laid out both Strickland and Prince Nana.

Cage said he remembers what Strickland did to Nick Wayne last year and also remembers their failure as a team at All In against Sting and Darby Allin. He took a piece of hair out of Strickland’s scalp and promised that after he was done with him, Strickland’s daughter wouldn’t want anything to do with him but would have a father she’d truly be proud of.

During Rampage, Swerve was shown recovering backstage. He said he would meet Cage next week, and said this time he wouldn’t be alone.

A match for the AEW Women’s Championship was also confirmed, as Toni Storm will defend the title against Serena Deeb. After making it clear for the last few weeks that she wanted the next shot at Storm, the championship match was confirmed after she defeated Mariah May on Dynamite.

Here is the updated lineup for Double or Nothing:

  • AEW World Championship: Swerve Strickland defends against Christian Cage
  • International title: Roderick Strong defends against Will Ospreay
  • AEW Women’s Championship: Toni Storm defends against Serena Deeb
  • TBS title: Willow Nightingale defends against Mercedes Mone

Will Ospreay to challenge for International title at AEW Double or Nothing

A match for the International title is now set for Double or Nothing.

Will Ospreay won a Casino Gauntlet match that was held on Dynamite, defeating Komander with the hidden blade. He will now face Roderick Strong for the International title at Double or Nothing on May 26 in Las Vegas.

The gauntlet, which wasn’t announced before the show, included Jay White, Dante Martin, Penta El Zero Miedo, Kyle O’Reilly, Ospreay, Lance Archer, Komander, and Jay Lethal. The finish had O’Reilly putting Ospreay in the cross-arm breaker, allowing Komander to hit a ropewalk shooting star press. Ospreay then hit the hidden blade for the win.

One of the stories in the match had Ospreay hesitate before using the Tiger Driver 91, a move he said he would no longer use after he hit the move on Bryan Danielson at AEW Dynasty, causing injury. Backstage, Don Callis asked Ospreay why he didn’t use the move. He pushed Ospreay to use the move on Strong, noting that he has had neck issues in the past.

Here is the updated lineup for Double or Nothing:

  • International title: Roderick Strong defends against Will Ospreay
  • TBS title: Willow Nightingale defends against Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone challenges TBS Champion for AEW Double or Nothing

Mercedes Mone has challenged the TBS Champion to a match at AEW Double or Nothing.

In a promo segment on Wednesday’s Dynamite, Mone interrupted an interview with the next TBS title challenger Willow Nightingale and declared a challenge for a title match at Double or Nothing set for Sunday, May 26.

Nightingale will challenge Julia Hart for the TBS Championship at the Dynasty pay-per-view set for Sunday, April 21.

Mone made her AEW debut at Dynamite Big Business on March 13, but has yet to wrestle for the promotion. Wednesday’s challenge would indicate that her in-ring debut will be held off until Double or Nothing, but no official announcement has been made to confirm that.

Nightingale vs. Mone is a natural feud, as Mone suffered an injury in a match against Nightingale at last May’s NJPW Resurgence event that has kept her sidelined from in-ring competition since. An audible was called in that bout as Mone was scheduled to win the match and be crowned the inaugural NJPW Strong Women’s Champion, but called for a change to the finish on the fly after suffering the injury.
