WWE Raw viewership down slightly, 18-49 demo rating rises

Raw last night averaged 1.81 million viewers, a number slightly down from last week, but it was a younger audience. Last week’s show was likely hurt with younger viewers due to being on July 3.

The episode drew a 0.56 rating in 18-49 and a 0.38 in 18-34.

There were no major takeaways past the Judgment Day vs. Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens match held the third hour up well. Competition numbers are not available at press time past Raw beat every English-language network TV show in 18-49.

The peak in 18-49 was for the Logan Paul segment with Ricochet and overall audience peak was for Becky Lynch vs. Zoey Stark.

The total audience was down one percent from last week, but 18-49 was up 15 percent and 18-34 was up 11 percent.

From one year ago, Raw was up six percent in viewers, up 26 percent in 18-49, and up 22 percent in 18-34. Factoring in the homes lost over the past year, the real ratings percentage gains would be 12 percent in viewers, 38 percent in 18-49, and 34 percent in 18-34.

The three hours were:

  • 8 p.m. 1.85 million viewers
  • 9 p.m. 1.87 million viewers
  • 10 p.m. 1.71 million viewers

WWE Raw draws huge ratings for Money in the Bank go-home show

Raw last night did gigantic numbers with no real obvious reason since nothing major was advertised for the night.

The show averaged 1.97 million viewers with a 0.61 rating in 18-49 and a 0.46 in 18-34. The numbers are the likes of which the company usually does after a major show when they leave with a big curiosity angle, and not the week before it.

The first two hours were just over two million viewers.

Raw was second on cable behind the LSU vs. Florida game in the college baseball World Series that did 3.43 million viewers and a 0.85 in 18-49. That was much tougher competition than the show usually gets at any time other than the NFL season and NBA playoffs. Raw was second to the game across the board in all the key demos.

Raw was fifth in total viewers for the night on cable, trailing the baseball game and three news shows, which is one of its highest night placings over the past year.

Raw also beat everything on network TV in 18-49.

This was Raw’s best number in both viewers and in 18-49 since the show the Monday after WrestleMania.

The show was up eight percent in viewers from last week, which itself was an up week, up nine percent in 18-49, and up 24 percent in 18-34, which was the key figure along with a giant increase in teenage viewership.

The show didn’t feature somebody like a John Cena, Roman Reigns or Logan Paul who one could point to for a jump in younger viewer ratings and the main event was Cody Rhodes vs. Damian Priest.

From one year ago, and keep in mind the show one year ago featured John Cena, Raw was up one percent in viewers, up 13 percent in 18-49, and up 15 percent in 18-34.

There was a third hour drop, but even so, the third hour numbers were strong. The first-to-third hour drops were 11 percent in men 18-49, six percent in women 18-49, 29 percent in women 12-34, 12 percent in men 12-34 (which did far above usual numbers), and 14 percent in people over 50.

The three hours were:

  • 8 p.m. 2.07 million viewers
  • 9 p.m. 2.04 million viewers
  • 10 p.m. 1.80 million viewers

WWE Raw ratings rebound with no NBA playoff competition

Raw bounced back Monday night to usual levels with 1.82 million viewers and a 0.56 rating in 18-49.

The numbers were a huge increase from last week when the show went against the final game of the NBA playoffs.

Raw was first on all of television in 18-49 and 18-34, and won every key demo on cable. It was ninth in total viewers behind seven news shows and the Louisiana State vs. Wake Forest game in the college baseball World Series which did 2.02 million viewers and a 0.45 and was second on all of television behind Raw for the night.

It was Raw’s best 18-49 number in five weeks.

The show was up 14 percent in viewers from last week, up 22 percent in 18-49, but down three percent in 18-34.

From one year ago, Raw was actually down eight percent in viewers, but it was up three percent in 18-49 and up nine percent in 18-34. Factoring in the difference in homes with cable, the real percentage of viewers available was down three percent, but up nine percent in 18-49 and up 15 percent in 18-34.

The first-to-third hour drops were mild: five percent with women 18-49, five percent with men 18-49, five percent with men 12-34, and the only significant drops (which is why third hour viewers were down) were 14 percent with women 12-34 and 13 percent with people over 50.

The third hour was built around Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn vs. Dominik Mysterio, Damian Priest & Finn Balor.

The three hours were:

  • 8 p.m. 1.89 million viewers
  • 9 p.m. 1.90 million viewers
  • 10 p.m. 1.68 million viewers

WWE Raw ratings down against NBA Finals game five

Raw, going against what turned out to be the final game of the NBA playoffs this season, was predictably down with 1.60 million viewers and a 0.46 rating in 18-49.

You can largely throw the numbers out as far as significance goes given the competition. The show declined greatly after hour one, which has not been the pattern in recent months, as it became clear the Denver Nuggets were about to finish the series in game five.

It was Raw’s lowest 18-49 number since the end of the football season, and will likely be the lowest 18-49 number until the upcoming football season starts and Raw goes against a major game.

The NBA Finals game on ABC averaged 13.08 million viewers and drew a 3.98 rating in 18-49 to dominate television. Raw was second on all of television, and first by a wide margin on cable, as ESPN’s NBA pregame show only did 665,000 viewers and a 0.24 for second place.

Raw won in every key demo on cable and was 11th in total viewers behind only news shows.

Raw was down 13 percent in viewers from last week, which had an NHL game head-to-head but no NBA game. It was down 17 percent in 18-49 and down only five percent in 18-34.

From one year ago, which also went against the NBA Finals, but not the last game, Raw was down six percent in viewers, up seven percent in 18-49, and up 41 percent in 18-34. Factoring out homes no longer having access to USA Network, the real percentage drops by actual percentage of those with the station is that viewers were even, 18-49 was up 13 percent, and 18-34 was up 49 percent.

The first-to-third hour drop was the largest in some time, again likely due to the game. Women 18-49 dropped 18 percent from the first to the third hour, men 18-49 dropped 14 percent, women 12-34 dropped 34 percent, men 12-34 dropped 18 percent, and people over 50 dropped 19 percent.

The three hours were:

  • 8 p.m. 1.75 million viewers
  • 9 p.m. 1.60 million viewers
  • 10 p.m. 1.44 million viewers

WWE Raw ratings up for World Heavyweight title defense

With no NBA playoff competition and paced by the first World title match on Raw in nearly two years, the show was up to 1.83 million viewers with a 0.56 rating in 18-49 last night.

Raw impressively beat the Las Vegas Golden Knights vs. Florida Panthers Stanley Cup playoff game on TNT for first place, although the game actually was well ahead of Raw for total viewership and 18-49 viewership. WBD made the decision to air the game on TNT, TBS, and TruTV. It did 1.68 million viewers and a 0.54 on TNT, which was second to Raw for the night. TBS did 535,000/0.18 and TruTV did 235,000 and 0.09, so the total viewers were 2.45 million and the total 18-49 rating was 0.81.

Raw also beat everything on both English and Spanish network TV in 18-49, so USA was first for the night in all of television.

The combined game numbers beat Raw in all the key demos, but as far as the first place show, Raw was ahead of the TNT airing in 18-49 and women 18-49. The game on TNT was first in men 18-49, first in 18-34, first in women 12-34, and first in men 12-34.

Raw was third for the night on cable in total viewers behind only The Five and Rachel Maddow. That’s much higher than Raw usually does due to the collapse of Fox News in prime time.

The show was up 13 percent from last week due to the lack of NBA playoff competition in viewers, up six percent in 18-49, and up five percent in 18-34.

From one year ago, Raw was down two percent in viewers, but up seven percent in 18-49 and up 18 percent in 18-34. Factoring in the drop in cable homes over the past year, the real percentage gains were up four percent in viewers, up 14 percent in 18-49, and up 25 percent in 18-34.

The Seth Rollins vs. Damian Priest title match kept the key audience strong in hour three, as instead of first-to-third hour losses, the third hour was up nine percent with women 18-49, up three percent in men 18-49, up five percent with women 12-34, up five percent in men 12-34, and down eight percent with people over 50.

The other leading competition was Florida State vs. Tennessee in the College Softball World Series which did 1.32 million viewers and 0.28.

The three hours for Raw:

  • 8 p.m. 1.83 million viewers
  • 9 p.m. 1.90 million viewers
  • 10 p.m. 1.76 million viewers

WWE Raw ratings hold up well against huge NBA number

Raw on Monday, facing competition from both the NBA and NHL playoffs (including 12 million viewers for the Celtics-Heat game), held up well, doing similar numbers to last week.

The episode averaged 1.61 million viewers, the lowest number the show has done since football season ended, with a 0.52 rating in 18-49.

The Celtics-Heat game did a 4.24 in 18-49 and 3.79 in 18-34, which will be among the largest numbers anything on cable will do this year outside of the NFL.

Raw was fourth behind the game, the pregame show, and the post-game show. It was fourth in every key demo except women 12-34, where it was fifth, behind the Las Vegas vs. Dallas NHL game on ESPN that did 1.58 million viewers and a 0.44.

News numbers were way down against the NBA game and Raw was fourth for the night in total viewers, its best finish in that category in recent times.

Raw likely would have done substantially worse if not for the Night of Champions show giving it the post-PPV boost. The audience grew in the second hour and fell in the third, but it held up slightly better than usual for the Seth Rollins & AJ Styles tag match against Finn Balor & Damian Priest.

The show was down two percent in viewers from last week, but it faced much harder competition this time. Plus, Memorial Day has been historically low for Raw. It was also down two percent in 18-49.

As compared to Memorial Day last year, Raw was up eight percent in viewers and up 29 percent in 18-49 and 23 percent in 18-34. Factoring in homes lost by cable, the real percentage of homes with the station watching gains were 14 percent in viewers, 37 percent in 18-49, and 29 percent in 18-34.

Another key note is that women were stronger in hour three than hour one, but men declined significantly, with the women’s 18-49 audience up 12 percent from the first to third hour while the men’s audience was down 14 percent from the first-to-third hour.

The three hours were:

  • 8 p.m. 1.64 million viewers
  • 9 p.m. 1.70 million viewers
  • 10 p.m. 1.50 million viewers

WWE Raw ratings down against Nuggets-Lakers NBA playoff game

Going against the Lakers-Nuggets game that did 8.21 million viewers, Raw was down in total viewers (to its lowest number since the end of football season), but was still healthy with the younger demos.

Raw was in a more familiar pattern with the first hour being the highest and a normal drop through the show, unlike the past few weeks where often the second hour has done significantly better than the first.

Raw averaged 1.64 million viewers with a 0.54 rating in 18-49 and a 0.40 rating in 18-34.

Raw was fifth on cable behind the NBA game and shows before and after the game on ESPN.

Raw beat the Carolina vs. Florida NHL playoff gave that did 1.54 million viewers and a 0.48 for the fifth spot.

Raw was fourth in women 18-49, fifth in men 18-49, fifth in people 18-34, fourth in women 12-34, and fifth in men 12-34. In each case the only thing beating it was ESPN coverage of the NBA and SportsCenter immediately after the game. Raw was 10th in total viewers behind three shows on ESPN and six news shows.

Raw was down five percent in viewers from last week, down seven percent in 18-49, and down two percent in 18-34.

From one year ago, it was down five percent, the first time in a long time the viewer number for Raw was lower than the same week one year ago. However, to show the change in the audience to much younger viewers, even though total audience was down, 18-49 was up 31 percent from one year ago and 18-34 was up 38 percent. And factoring in homes lost to USA Network, the real percentage changes were viewers basically even, 18-49 up 39 percent, and 18-34 up 46 percent.

So the key takeaway is that the year-to-year gains in the key demo, even with similar total viewers, are outstanding.

First-to-third hour changes saw women 18-49 down 15 percent, men 18-49 down four percent, women 12-34 down 19 percent, men 12-34 stayed even, and people over 50 dropped 15 percent.

The three hours were:

  • 8 p.m. 1.72 million viewers
  • 9 p.m. 1.69 million viewers
  • 10 p.m. 1.50 million viewers

WWE Raw viewership down, 18-49 demo rating rises

Raw last night averaged 1.72 million viewers and drew a 0.58 rating in 18-49.

The key takes were again the lower first hour, big increase in hour two, and then a fall in hour three, which is an exaggerated version of previous years’ patterns as summer approaches. The other thing from last night was a huge increase in 18-34 viewers, doing a 0.41.

The increase shows how hot WWE is with younger viewers, but in comparison to recent weeks, this had less competition, with the only major sports event being Seattle vs. Dallas in the NHL playoffs on ESPN that did 2.75 million viewers (0.97 rating in 18-49).

Raw was second to the NHL game in 18-49 and second in every key demo. In total viewers, it was was seventh behind the game and five news shows. Raw also beat everything on network TV in 18-49 except Jeopardy! Masters on ABC, and a 0.62 on cable in hour one is far better than the 0.66 than Jeopardy! Masters did, given the reach of homes.

Raw was down four percent in viewers from last week, but up 11 percent in 18-49 and up 14 percent in 18-34. Last week was the stronger marquee episode but the competition last week was tougher with the NBA playoffs.

From one year ago, Raw was down one percent in viewers, but up 29 percent in 18-49 and up 37 percent in 18-34, and that’s not even factoring in that USA Network is in far less homes than a year ago.

The first-to-third hour changes saw women 18-49 decrease eight percent, men 18-49 increase three percent, women 12-34 decrease 20 percent, and men 12-34 decrease 11 percent.

The three hours were:

  • 8 p.m. 1.69 million viewers
  • 9 p.m. 1.82 million viewers
  • 10 p.m. 1.63 million viewers

Raw ratings down for night two of WWE Draft

Raw last night averaged 1.78 million viewers and drew a 0.54 rating in 18-49.

The number in a sense would be disappointing if only because SmackDown’s ratings for night one of the WWE Draft were so high, and Raw’s number was down from the past few weeks.

Raw went against two NBA playoff games, the first two hours against the Philadelphia 76ers vs. Boston Celtics (4,741,000/1.64) and third hour against the Phoenix Suns-Denver Nuggets (4,542,000/1.62). In addition the New York Rangers vs. New Jersey Devils did 2.05 million/0.69) on ESPN.

Raw ended up fifth for the night, behind the three playoff games and Inside the NBA playoffs on TNT.

Raw was fifth in women 18-49, fifth in men 18-49, fifth in people 18-34, fifth in women 12-34, and fifth in men 12-34. In total viewers, it was ninth behind four sports shows and four news shows.

Going forward, Raw will be much higher in total viewer standings on Mondays than in the past due to the collapse of Fox News, which did 1.60 million/0.07 as compared with 2.55 million/0.17 two weeks ago in the three hours head-to-head.

Raw was down two percent in viewers, down three percent in 18-49, and the same in 18-34 from last week.

From one year ago, it was up 12 percent in viewers, up 43 percent in 18-49, and up 82 percent in 18-34. That’s not even figuring in the decline of cable homes.

Aside from the NBA and NHL, Raw beat everything else on television but American Idol on ABC, which did a 0.58 in 18-49, but a network has such a huge advantage that it would have to be considered a win for Raw. In 18-34, Raw handily beat everything on network television and everything but the NHL and NBA playoffs head-to-head.

The show had normal declines with viewers above the age of 35, but under 35, viewers stayed with the show at a stronger than usual level, in particular teenage boys.

The three hours were:

  • 8 p.m. 1.84 million viewers
  • 9 p.m. 1.87 million viewers
  • 10 p.m. 1.62 million viewers

WWE Raw ratings hold steady against NBA, NHL playoff competition

WWE Raw held up well Monday against the NBA and NHL playoffs with the last 49 minutes of the show going against a monster NBA number, finishing at 1.82 million viewers and an 0.56 in 18-49 and 0.40 in 18-34.

Raw was fourth for the night on cable and beat everything on network TV except American Idol (0.61). It was behind the two NBA games on TBS and Inside the NBA which did an 0.73 from 1:07-2 AM.

It went against the Milwaukee Bucks vs. Miami Heat NBA game until 10:11 PM (3,497,000/1.24), and the LA Lakers vs. Memphis Grizzlies game after 10:11 PM (4,264,000/0.164). The Lakers feature LeBron James.

It also went against three NHL playoff games: the New Jersey Devils vs. New York Rangers game on ESPN (1,042,000/0.36); the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Tampa Bay Lightning game on TBS (803,000/0.29) and the Las Vegas Golden Knights vs. Winnipeg Jets game on ESPN (482,000/0.18).

Raw was third in women 18-49 behind the NBA games, fourth in men 18-49 behind the NBA games and Inside the NBA, fourth in 18-34 behind the same shows, third in women 12-34, fourth in men 12-34 and ninth in total viewers, trailing two NBA games and six news shows.

The major takeaway is that saving Bad Bunny for hour three worked out well for younger viewers as hour three beat hour one with women 18-49, 18-34, women 12-34 and men 12-34 which rarely happens.

Additionally, hour three went against the much stronger NBA playoff game, so those gains are even more impressive.

The number of viewers was identical to last week while 18-49 was down eight percent and 18-34 was down seven percent, but the numbers were very strong considering the head-to-head competition.

From last year, the show was up 13 percent in viewers, up 27 percent in 18-49, and up 48 percent in 18-34, so these are massive gains with younger viewers.

As far as first to third hour changes, which are usually significant drops, women 18-49 was up five percent, men 18-49 was down four percent, women 12-34 was up 13 percent and men 12-34 was up 21 percent, while over 50 was down 13 percent.

The better hold and actual gains in some demos would likely be tied to Bad Bunny, so he was very much a legit draw except to those over 50.

The three hour breakdowns were 8 PM 1.84 million viewers, 9 PM 1.94 million viewers, and 10 PM 1.67 million viewers.
