WWE SmackDown video highlights: The New Day arrive

More of the pieces for Money in the Bank were put into place on SmackDown last night.

The New Day made their first appearance on SmackDown since the roster shakeup to announce that they’ll be challenging for The Usos’ tag titles at the pay-per-view. The first-ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match was also later revealed after the advertised number one contender’s fatal five-way elimination match never got started due to a brawl.

Elsewhere on last night’s show, Shinsuke Nakamura teamed with Sami Zayn against Kevin Owens & Baron Corbin, Randy Orton promised to reclaim the WWE Championship, and AJ Styles took on Dolph Ziggler in the main event.

The Usos vs. New Day set for WWE Money in the Bank

The New Day arrived on SmackDown tonight, and they’re already getting a tag team title shot at Money in the Bank.

Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods interrupted The Usos before announcing that Shane McMahon has granted them a Tag Team Championship match at the pay-per-view. The appearance was the first time that The New Day has been on SmackDown since switching brands in the roster shakeup.

Kingston underwent ankle surgery in April and the group has been out of action since. They appeared on Talking Smack last Tuesday after videos hyping their return had aired for several weeks.

Money in the Bank will take place on June 18th at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The updated card for the show is:

  • WWE Champion Jinder Mahal defending against Randy Orton
  • AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn vs. Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler in a Money in the Bank ladder match
  • SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos defending against The New Day

The New Day named as hosts of WWE WrestleMania 33

Given their status as one of the most prominent acts in WWE, it figured that The New Day would be playing a featured role at this year’s WrestleMania.

That role was announced on Monday as Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods revealed on TMZ that they would be hosting WrestleMania 33. The news puts into doubt whether the trio will be wrestling on the show.

Hosting duties have previously been handled by Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 30 and The Rock at WrestleMania 27.

Since dropping the Raw Tag Team Championship after the completion of their record-breaking reign and falling out of the title picture, The New Day have taken a bit of a step back on television. All three members were entrants in the Royal Rumble and have been involved in a storyline with Titus O’Neil.

Big E, Kingston, and Woods teamed against Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, and Rusev at last year’s WrestleMania, which led to a segment with Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, and Mick Foley after the match.

WrestleMania 33 takes place at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida on April 2nd.
