WWE SmackDown ratings steady for The Rock appearance

The Friday, February 16 episode of WWE SmackDown averaged 2.555 million viewers on Fox, down 0.8 percent from the previous week. It’s the second-highest audience total the show has done since September 15.

The show featured appearances by The Rock and Roman Reigns as well as Logan Paul’s first-ever SmackDown match.

SmackDown topped all of television with a 0.75 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s the same rating SmackDown did last week and ties the best number the show has done in that category since August 25.

As compared to the same week in 2023, SmackDown’s overall audience was up 7.2 percent while its 18-49 rating was up 29.3 percent.

Friday night’s episode of WWE SmackDown averaged 2.578 million viewers on Fox, up 4.4 percent from the previous week. It’s the largest audience total for the show since August 25 of last year.

The episode took place one day after WWE’s WrestleMania 40 press conference.

SmackDown drew a 0.75 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s up 1.4 percent from last week and is also the show’s highest rating in that category since the August 25 episode, which was a special tribute to Bray Wyatt and Terry Funk.

As compared to the same week in 2023, SmackDown’s overall audience was up 4.5 percent while its 18-49 rating was up 17.2 percent. It’s the 11th straight week the show has had a year-over-year increase in the key demo.

For the month of January, SmackDown averaged 2.433 million viewers and a 0.66 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s up from the 2.346 million viewers and 0.58 demo rating the show averaged in January 2023.

As compared to the same week in 2023, SmackDown was up 9.2 percent in total viewers and up 26.4 percent in 18-49.

With the show taking place on the day after Thanksgiving, last week’s episode of WWE SmackDown averaged 789,000 viewers on FS1, down 31.1 percent from when it last aired on that station on October 27. This is the lowest-ever viewership total for a live airing of SmackDown on any network. There was a New Year’s Eve taped “Best Of” episode in 2021 that did a lower audience. 

SmackDown drew a 0.24 rating in the 18-49 demo, down 31.4 from the October FS1 episode. That’s tied for the second-lowest rating a live SmackDown has ever done. There was an October 28, 2022 episode that went up against the World Series that did a lower number.

The show was moved to FS1 last Friday due to Fox airing college football. NBC and ABC also aired games head-to-head, so the competition was much tougher than usual in addition to it being a holiday weekend and airing on an unfamiliar station.

SmackDown drew a 0.62 rating in the 18-49 demo, up 8.8 percent from last week. That ties the best rating SmackDown has done in 18-49 since October 6. It nearly doubled the next closest competition on network television on the night.

SmackDown went head-to-head with AEW Collision on Friday night. Collision, which moved nights due to AEW’s Full Gear pay-per-view, averaged 270,000 viewers on TNT and drew a 0.08 rating in the 18-49 demo.

As compared to the same week in 2022, SmackDown’s overall viewership was down 1.2 percent but its 18-49 demo rating was up 10.7 percent.

Going head-to-head against SmackDown, the World Series game topped all of television, averaging more than nine million viewers and drawing a 1.95 rating in 18-49.

Two NBA games on ESPN also finished ahead of the show on Friday night.

As compared to the same week in 2022, when SmackDown was also moved to FS1 due to World Series coverage, the show’s overall audience was up 37.1 percent while its 18-49 rating was up 52.2 percent.
