NXT TV taping spoilers: A new number one contender is crowned

Pre-show —

– A Percy Watson video package was shown and he was then introduced as the third man at the announce desk.

– Tian Bing defeated Beautiful Blonde Blake in a quick warm up match.

TV tapings —

– DIY came out for their tag title celebration. They went into the crowd to celebrate with the fans. The Authors of Pain’s music hit the moment DIY grabbed the mics. The Revival’s music then came on, but they avoided AoP on the stage. They said they wanted another shot at the tag titles but AoP shoved them. Ellering and the big men backed away and The Revival slowly made their way to the back as well.

– SAnitY defeated No Way Jose & Rich Swann

Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe were the pair in action here. They got the heat on Swann before Jose took a hot tag to run wild. Swann did a backflip on to Wolfe on the outside. Big Damo then appeared from the crowd and hammered Jose who was then rolled in the ring and pinned. Damo threw down Fulton’s coat on the ramp after the match.

– Ember Moon defeated Kimber Lee

Moon hit the jumping top rope stunner for the win.

– Otis Dozovic & Tucker Knight defeated two enhancement talents

Heavy Machinery hit their big slam to get the victory.

– Tye Dillinger defeated Eric Young via DQ in a number one contenders fatal four-way qualifying match

Four matches will be taped with the winners advancing to a number one contenders fatal four-way later. Nikki Cross jumped Dillinger from behind to cause the DQ. After Dillinger cleared the ring, Big Damo came from the crowd and destroyed him.

– Andrade “Cien” Almas defeated No Way Jose in a number one contenders fatal four way qualifying match

Almas was no nonsense and hit his leg sweep DDT for the win.

– Roderick Strong defeated Elias Samson in the third of four qualifying matches

The crowd was all over The Drifter, telling him to drift away and drift forever. Strong won with the sick kick.

– Bobby Roode defeated Oney Lorcan in the final of the four qualifying matches

This was a hard-hitting match with Lorcan delivering uppercuts and Roode scoring the win with an impaler DDT.

– Peyton Royce w/ Billie Kay defeated Sara Bridges (the former Crazy Mary Dobson)

Royce won in a quick match.

– Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Patrick Clark

Nakamura hit the Kinshasa to cap off an entertaining match.

– Billie Kay w/ Peyton Royce defeated Daria Berenato

Royce interfered behind the ref’s back to allow Kay to get the win.

– The Authors of Pain defeated two enhancement talents via ref stoppage

One of their opponents got knocked out cold during the match.

– Bobby Roode defeated Tye Dillinger, Roderick Strong, and Andrade “Cien” Almas in a fatal four-way elimination match to earn a title shot at NXT TakeOver: San Antonio

This was a great match. It was elimination style with Strong hitting a sick kick to eliminate Almas, Dillinger hitting the Tye Breaker to get rid of Strong, and finally Roode hitting the impaler DDT on Dillinger to get the win.

– NXT Tag Team Champions DIY defeated The Revival to retain their titles

There were early heel tricks and foul play by The Revival to keep the advantage. DIY hit their double team kick and knee to win what was a well-paced match and sent everyone home happy.

– Oney Lorcan defeated Wesley Blake with a running blockbuster.

NXT TV taping spoilers —

– It was announced on the video screen that Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Samoa Joe will happen at TakeOver: Toronto for the title.

– No Way Jose & Rich Swann defeated Tony Nese & Drew Gulak in a Dusty Classic tournament match

Great reaction for No Way Jose and Swann. The crowd chanted for them the entire match. Jose hit a half nelson slam on Gulak for the win.

– Bobby Roode defeated Sean Maluta

Roode hit an impaler DDT for the win. Tye Dillinger ran down after the match and they had a scuffle, with Dillinger getting the upper hand.

– Peyton Royce and Billie Kay attacked Liv Morgan backstage before making their way out to the stage. Royce and Kay put the entire women’s roster on notice.

– Austin Aries & Roderick Strong defeated Otis & Tucker Knight in a Dusty Classic tournament match

Big crowd reaction for Strong as he made his debut. He won it for his team with a gutbuster and sick kick combo.

– Danielle Kamela defeated Nikki Cross w/ SAnitY by ref reversal

Cross beat Kamela fast but kept attacking until the decision was reversed.

– Shinsuke Nakamura tried to cut a promo on Samoa Joe but was interrupted by Patrick Clark. Nakamura took him out with one kick. Joe made his way to the stage but stopped short as Nakamura saw him coming.

– Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa defeated HoHo Lun and Tian Bing in a Dusty Classic tournament match

– A superkick and running knee combo on Lun for the decisive win.

– Aliyah defeated Billie Kay w/ Peyton Royce

Liv Morgan ran down to attack Royce and caused a distraction, allowing Aliyah to pin Kay. The heels beat down Morgan until Aliyah finally joined in to even the odds, but the Aussies were too much for the youngsters.

– Kota Ibushi & TJ Perkins defeated Mustafa Ali & Lince Dorado in a Dusty Classic tournament match

Perkins subbed in for the injured Hideo Itami. Very good match, the crowd loved Ibushi and Perkins. Perkins got the win with a kneebar, and he got Ibushi to dab after the match.

– Asuka defeated Thea Trinidad

Fast match, as always.

– William Regal then announced on the tron that he had found Asuka an opponent for TakeOver. Mickie James was shown on the screen and cut a promo on wanting the title and how she paved the way for the women’s revolution. The match was officially made for TakeOver.

– Tye Dillinger defeated Noah Potjes

Dillinger hit the Tye Breaker for the win. Roode attacked Dillinger after the match.

– Ember Moon defeated Rachael Evers

Evers was Rachael Ellering with a name that paid tribute to Lance Storm. Top rope stunner by Moon for the win.

– Gargano and Ciampa received a bye in the Dusty Classic due to The Revival not being able to compete. Dawson cut a promo on the stage saying that he is injured. The Authors of Pain came down in an attempt to rough up DIY but were sent packing.

– Elias Samson defeated Nathan Cruz

This was a fast one. Cruz is in town for EVOLVE this weekend.

– Liv Morgan defeated Peyton Royce w/ Billie Kay by DQ

Kay got involved when Morgan had a submission on. Aliyah tried to make a save but was no match for the heels. Ember Moon made the final save and sent the Aussies packing.

– Andrade “Cien” Almas defeated Cedric Alexander

This was a long match, and Almas was in full heel mode. He had a hat, suspenders, and sparkly pyro. Alexander had hit a lumbar check but Almas got the ropes, then was able to hit his leg sweep DDT for the win.

– There was a contract signing in the ring with Shinsuke Nakamura, William Regal, and a crew of Performance Center security guards. Samoa Joe refused to enter the ring and cut a promo on Nakamura, Regal, and the crowd. Regal brought the contract up the ramp for Joe to sign. After Nakamura signed the paper, he got in a brawl and destroyed all the security guards, even putting one through a table.

– SAnitY defeated Kota Ibushi & TJ Perkins in a Dusty Classic tournament match

Eric Young and Nikki Cross were on the outside for added intimidation. The larger heels worked over Perkins most of the match. Ibushi made the hot tag and ran wild. He hit the powerbomb for what would have been the win, but major distractions led to Sawyer Fulton getting the pin on Ibushi after their double team finisher.

The show seemed to go off the air, but Shinsuke made the save as SAnitY was beating down Perkins. Nakamura hit a Kinshasa on Wolfe to send everyone home happy.

– Dark Match: Jack Gallagher defeated Noam Dar

This was all you could ever want in a comedy match. Gallagher rolled Dar into a ball and kicked him in the bum. They did a rolling near fall reversal circle for a while, and Gallagher won with a running dropkick.

NXT TV taping spoilers — 

– Samoa Joe came out for a promo. He said that he has Shinsuke Nakamura’s medical report and it says Nakamura is out 6-12 weeks. He wants to either face Nakamura or have him stripped of the title. Mr. Regal came out and said he will handle what Joe caused. Joe went face-to-face with Regal before leaving.

– Austin Aries defeated Oney Lorcan

Physical match, Lorcan used a headlock early to keep the advantage until Aries sent him over the top to the floor on a scary spot. Aries won with the Horns of Aries for the submission victory. Aries got on the mic and called Hideo Itami a coward, leading to Itami making his way to the ring as Aries bailed.

– Billie Kay defeated Aliyah

Big boot by Kay for the win.

– Cedric Alexander defeated Andrade “Cien” Almas

Amazing stuff here, crowd was behind Alexander all the way. This was the best match Almas has had in NXT. Alexander won it with a lumbar check and the two embraced after the match.

– Regal announced the return of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. The tournament begins “tonight” and will culminate at NXT TakeOver: Toronto.

– Tye Dillinger defeated Angelo Dawkins

Dillinger hit the Tye Breaker for the win. After the match, Bobby Roode met Dillinger at the ramp and said he needs a perfect partner to win the Dusty Classic. Their team would be Perfectly Glorious.

– The Ealy Brothers vs. The Revival never happened as Samoa Joe destroyed the giant twins as Revival watched from the ramp, zipped their jackets back up, and left. Joe demanded Regal bring him Nakamura or he would keep on destroying people.

– The Authors Of Pain defeated two enhancement talents in a squash match. Paul Ellering said the next chapter will unleash a plethora of pain.

– Asuka defeated Liv Morgan

Asuka got the armbar submission fast. She then proclaimed that no one is ready for her.

– Hideo Itami defeated Lince Dorado

Competitive match with Itami showcasing all he’s got before hitting the GTS for the win. Aries hopped the rail and attacked Itami from behind after the match, but was fought off and Itami sent Aries packing.

– The Authors of Pain defeated The Bollywood Boyz in a Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic match

Total destruction by the AOP as they hit their leg sweep finish for the win.

– Rich Swann defeated Patrick Clark

Great crowd reaction for Swann. He hit the handspring elbow moonsault for the win.

– Peyton Royce w/ Billie Kay defeated Danielle Kamela

Perfect Plex by Royce for the win.

– Dan Matha came out for his debut match, but was destroyed by Joe. Joe demanded that Regal hand him the title in one week.

– NXT Tag Team Champions The Revival defeated Andrade “Cien” Almas & Cedric Alexander in a Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic match

This was everything you’d expect from these four. As Almas sat in the ropes doing his tranquilo taunt, Alexander dove over him onto Revival in a major spot early. The heels worked over Almas until the hot tag when Alexander ran wild before Revival hit the Shatter Machine.

Almas turned on Alexander after the match, beating him down and dropping him on the steps. The crowd was all over Almas.

– Sanity (Sawyer Fulton & Alexander Wolfe w/ Eric Young and Nikki Cross) defeated Tye Dillinger & Bobby Roode in a Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic match

Roode never took his robe off and allowed Dillinger to be destroyed. The Sanity act is visually great with smoke and apocalyptic outfits. Young and Cross didn’t reveal themselves until after the match.

– Billie Kay w/ Peyton Royce defeated Liv Morgan

Royce grabbed Morgan’s foot as a distraction to allow Kay to hit the big boot and get the win.

– TM61 defeated Riddick Moss & Tino Sabbatelli in a Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic match

Great reaction for Sabbatelli and Moss who are live event regulars. TM61 won it with Thunder Valley on Sabbatelli.

– Blake vs Murphy went to a no contest as Samoa Joe destroyed them both and called out Nakamura. Nakamura showed up in a neck brace, took it off, and they had a wild brawl. Nakamura hit a Kinshasa on a security guard and Joe in the center of the ring to send everyone home happy.
