AEW Dynamite viewership up, 18-49 demo rating down

Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite episode averaged 637,000 viewers on TBS, up 0.6 percent from last week. It’s the second-lowest audience total the show has done in its regular time slot since August 7.

Dynamite drew a 0.19 rating in the 18-49 demo. That’s down five percent from last week and matches the lowest rating the show has done in that category on its normal night since July 31.

The show went head-to-head with NBA basketball on ESPN and the NHL on TNT as well as a CNN Town Hall with presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

As compared to the same week in 2023, Dynamite’s overall viewership was down 17.7 percent while its 18-49 rating was down 20.8 percent. Those numbers did hold up better than in recent weeks where the declines were closer to 30 percent in both categories.

AEW Dynamite ratings rebound for WrestleDream fallout episode

Wednesday night’s AEW Dynamite averaged 633,000 viewers on TBS, up 92.4 percent from last week when the show was moved to Tuesday. The viewership is down 6.9 percent from two weeks ago when Dynamite last aired in its normal time slot and is the lowest audience total the show has done on a Wednesday since August 7.

Dynamite drew a 0.20 rating in the 18-49 demo, doubling last week’s Tuesday episode that went partially against WWE NXT. Dynamite was sixth on the prime time cable charts but tied the second-lowest rating the show has done since September 4.

The show went head-to-head with both the NBA playoffs and WNBA Finals last week as well as an interview with presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Fox News.

As compared to the same week in 2023, Dynamite’s overall audience was down 29.7 percent while its 18-49 rating was down 35.5 percent.

Last night’s Title Tuesday edition of AEW Dynamite — airing outside of the show’s normal day and time slot — averaged 329,000 viewers on TBS. That’s down 51.6 percent from last week and is the lowest audience in Dynamite’s history.

The episode drew a 0.10 rating in the 18-49 demo, down 50 percent from last week. It’s also the lowest rating Dynamite has ever done.

In addition to being moved to Tuesday, Dynamite started one hour later than usual. It went head-to-head with NXT during its first hour and also had competition from the MLB playoffs and the start of the NHL season.

The show went head-to-head with a Connecticut Sun vs. Indiana Fever WNBA playoff game, featuring Caitlin Clark, that averaged 2.54 million viewers.

There was no major sports competition on the night, although Dynamite did go head-to-head with the season premiere of Survivor, which topped all of television with a 0.73 rating in 18-49. The Survivor episode averaged more than 4.7 million viewers.

It’s the lowest audience total for the show since August 7 when it went head-to-head with Summer Olympics coverage.

That’s down four percent from last week and is the lowest rating the show has done since the August 14th episode (also a 0.23). Against strong competition from the Olympic Games, Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite on TBS averaged 609,000 viewers, down 22.5% from the previous week.

It’s the lowest audience the show has done since June 19th and the second lowest the show has ever done on a Wednesday night.

The show averaged a 0.18 rating in the 18-49 demo, down 30.8% from last week and the lowest rating it has done in that category since the June 19th episode and second lowest in the show’s history, regardless of the night it aired.

The show aired head-to-head against Olympic coverage on NBC, USA Network and Peacock which have had a negative effect on wrestling numbers since the Games started last Friday.

Compared to the same week in 2023, overall viewership was down 31.9% while the 18-49 rating was down 41.9%.

The last time Dynamite aired against the summer Olympics was for two weeks in 2021 when it averaged 979,000 viewers and 975,000 viewers respectively for the two weeks with a 0.35 rating in the 18-49 demo both week. They were the only two weeks between July 14th and October 6th where the show was below 1.05 million viewers or a 0.37 demo.

This was the 250th episode of Dynamite. It featured a nearly hour-long opening match with MJF defeating Will Ospreay for the AEW International Championship.
