DragonKing Dark: The Ark of the Covenant

DragonKing Dark returns, relaunched and rebranded with a new focus. It’s DragonKing Dark 2.0 and we are now curators of a massive and mythical museum of curiosity.

Some items are real, some imagined, and some are something in between. But, all the items and objects we will study tell us something about who we are, what we believe, what we imagine, and speak to our fears and hopes.

On this week’s show, we study the best theories and ideas about the Biblical Ark of the Covenant. What was it and where might it be?

DragonKing Dark: Near death experiences

Before next week’s DragonKing Dark relaunch with a new theme and idea, we present an episode of our sister podcast Those Who Wander where I am joined by Tonya from When It Was Cool to discuss near death experiences and how they have affected those who have had them.

Have some people caught a glimpse of the afterlife? Is there a scientific explanation for the similar experiences shared by those who may have momentarily died?

Hear all this and more on this week’s DragonKing Dark.

DragonKing Dark: Night of the Bullshido

We continue our countdown to episode 250 of DragonKing Dark where we will be starting a new fresh season of our podcast.

This week, we present a special edition called Night of the Bullshido where I take a look into the fictional world of not so effective martial arts. We look at some martial arts “masters” who claim fantastic or supernatural powers and how this scam became so widespread, especially in the 1970s and 1980s.

Grab your nunchucks and ninja stars and let’s go defend our style and school.

DragonKing Dark: The seven deadly sins, part 2

The second of our three part series on the seven deadly sins takes a look at two vices that go hand in hand: envy and greed (and not of the WCW pay-per-view variety, either.)

While they may seem like one and same, together, they cover a multitude of emotions that cause tremendous trouble for people. From Black Friday fistfights to theft, envy and greed have caused humankind a lot of trouble.

DragonKing Dark: Grand Canyon tales of the missing & murdered

We are going on a trip to Grand Canyon National Park later this week and while the Grand Canyon is one of the most beautiful places in North America, it can also be very dangerous.

People routinely use bad judgement and plunge to their death while others hike aways on trails and the weather gets the better of them. Still, others go missing never to be found again.

On this episode of DragonKing Dark, I look at a few of the outstanding cases of the Grand Canyon missing and murdered.

DragonKing Dark: Conspiracies are real…and they aren’t

There is no question about it: we live in an age of conspiracies.

What is real about the virus sweeping the world? What is real concerning this week’s election? Is there a rogue government agent posting insider information on the Internet?

Conspiracies happen every day that are real. You might even be conspiring about something yourself. But how can we know what is real and what isn’t with the world is in such turmoil right now? A year ago, if you would have told people the world would be masked, shut down, and large numbers of people dying, you might have been inclined to yell “conspiracy.” Now look where we are.

Let’s talk about it on this week’s DragonKing Dark.

DragonKing Dark: Inside one of America’s most haunted places

The old Sloss Furnaces steel mill in Birmingham, AL, was a brutal place to work.

While the steel industry built Birmingham, it wasn’t an easy life and many died working in the horrible conditions there. Several TV shows and documentaries have covered their old mill as one of the supposedly most haunted places in America.

Join me and Tonya as we traveled there on a stormy night. This is what we found.

DragonKing Dark: Examining true crime

True crime podcasts and television are very popular. Entire TV channels are devoted to the genre and true crime podcast series often reside near the top of the podcast charts. What is our morbid fascination with murder? Why do we gawk at the misfortune of others, often forming our opinion based less on fact than on entertainment? Millions of untrained people are fed the most sensational aspects of a story and willingly sit and devour that information for their own entertainment. Join us as host Karl Stern examines true crime entertainment.

Join us for a conversation about two very different shows and both with Halloween themes.

DragonKing Dark: ‘The Led Zeppelin Curse’

A great show for you today as Karl reviews the book “The Led Zeppelin Curse” by Lance Gilbert. The book explores Jimmy Page and his involvement with the occult and especially his ownership of the Boleskine House manor on the shores of Loch Ness that was previously owned by the occultist Aleister Crowley.

Did Jimmy Page’s dabbling in the dark arts bring doom down on the band? Did a curse placed on Jimmy Page by an occult film director cause his downfall? What is the real story of Boleskine House and its history? (It’s burned down twice). Plus wizards, a fatal church fire, and more!

DragonKing Dark: The history of tarot cards

Tarot cards evoke images of the esoteric and the occult, and sporting names like “The Devil”, “The Hanged Man”, “The Tower”, and “Death”, it’s not hard to understand why they stoke the imagination.

While decks of cards have been used for millennia for divination, the tarot’s antiquity is someone in question. While they have been linked to ancient Egypt. the evidence is somewhat questionable. Nevertheless, the tarot are imaginative, interesting, and somewhat scary.

Join me for this week’s look into the history of tarot cards.

DragonKing Dark: What is the evil secret of the Oriuagor?

If we have learned anything about people over the years, it’s that there is a segment of us that seek out the most dangerous and extreme.

So, it should come as no surprise that in the area of the occult and esoteric, there are those who seek out the “most evil” and “most terrifying” books. Several years ago, people searching the Internet for just such a thing began being directed to a vague page about a documentary for the most evil book ever discovered: a book which, after reading, people went mad.

What is the true story of the Oriuagor? I discuss on this week’s DragonKing Dark. Listen if you dare.
