WOR clip: Dave Meltzer talks possibility of NXT to USA Network

NXT may soon be headed to cable television.

During today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer brought up that he had gotten word that NXT may be moving to the USA Network. According to Meltzer, there has been talk of NXT either moving to FS1 or USA, with the latter being the current candidate. An announcement regarding NXT’s future is expected to be made soon.

Meltzer and Garrett Gonzales went into further detail about what this would mean for future NXT television tapings. Meltzer mentioned that the plan is for the show to be two hours, airing head-to-head with AEW’s television series on TNT on Wednesdays every week. The premiere date for NXT on USA could also come before October 2, which is when AEW debuts on TNT.

AEW sells out Boston and Philadelphia TNT events

Continuing their string of recent sellouts, All Elite Wrestling sold out both their Boston, MA, and Philadelphia, PA, TNT events in roughly an hour Friday.

The approximately 4500 seats available at Boston University’s Agganis Arena sold out in 57 minutes and would have done so faster had the online sales process not slowed down, according to our Dave Meltzer. The Wednesday, October 9th Boston show will be the promotion’s second live TV show on TNT and will feature Jon Moxley vs. Shawn Spears and the Young Bucks vs. Private Party.

The Wednesday, October 16th Philadelphia show, held at Temple University’s Liacouras Center, sold out approximately 7700 seats in just over an hour. 6500 of those tickets were sold in just 45 minutes. The third TNT show will feature both World title defenses for the men and women.

The success follows a quick sellout for AEW’s debut on TNT on Wednesday, October 2nd, in Washington, DC, at the Capital One Arena.

AEW has yet to announce any dates past Philadelphia, but are expected to soon.

Update: AEW sells out tickets for TV debut

Update —

Cody Rhodes tweeted that tickets have sold out: “SOLD OUT Thank you all so very much. (Do not give up hope on being there live though, we should be lifting potential camera/production holds as we get closer to the event. Keep checking at AEWTIX.com )”

Original —

On Friday, AEW fought through Ticketmaster issues and sold more than 9,200 tickets over two hours for their Wednesday, October 2nd TNT debut at the Capital One Center in Washington, DC.

The ticketing giant had some major issues where, for the first 90 minutes, prospective buyers were either told no tickets were available or tickets would be shown as available and then people would get messages that someone had beaten them to buying them.

As a result, there were reports of an immediate sellout because people weren’t able to buy anything. All tickets on the opposite side of the hard camera were sold, so it will look full on television even if no more seats are sold, which obviously won’t be the case.

Over the last several minutes, we’re told TicketMaster’s issues were cleared up and people have been able to order, but the question is how many people that were initially turned away are aware of this.
